Ubiquiti UniFi Switch Lite 16 PoE
A switch is a device with which it is possible to connect computers into a (local area) network, provided your computers all have an appropriate networking device installed. Switches can be daisy chained to form larger networks and come in managed and unmanaged variaties. The unmanaged versions generally cannot filter data and will forward any data that is fed into them, so they are better suited for small networks. Switches are easy to set up (just plug in the network cables) and allow you to share printers, storage space and other network resources with your entire home or office network.

Not mentioned on the webpage, but it comes with a US power cable instead of a locally usable one. I paid the higher price than everybody else that PBTech was charging for the switch, because I didn't want to wait until other suppliers got it into stock, but that was a mistake, as it is currently a very expensive paperweight. I sent a message to PBTech last weekend complaining about the wrong power cable, and nearly a week later I am still waiting for a response, or even an acknowledgement of my message. I guess the premium price wasn't to pay for customer service.

Bought this about 3 weeks ago to replace my 8 port unmanaged net gear switch as I need more ports and Poe as I also put in some unifi access points around my home, after reading the reviews on pb tech I also bought a cheep power lead but it turns out the people at pb tech listen to feed back and give you an au power cordLove this switch and the unifi eco system those I would be nice to see a switch with more poe ports on it in a deck top form-factor as I don’t have a place in my house for a sever rack and I use unifi ac points a unifi cameras and 8 ports don’t cut it

If you're after a 16 port gigabit switch with POE+ then this is perfect at 2/3 the price of the full rack-mount size options , however, it's power budget is 1/3 of those but plenty for a WiFi AP and a few cameras. As for it being a paperweight, it does appear to be parallel imported with a US power cable but a new cable (if you don't have one lying around anyway) costs all of $3 - hardly a paperweight!Currently out of stock so may not be coming back, a shame. Hopefully there'll be a NZ version soon.
I never owned or used a managed switch, but as our home network (if you like to call it this way) has grown steadily over the years some action was basically overdue. I have the new switch sitting right before the router and the information it provides (it 'fits' quite nicely into Unifi) is quite interesting. No more flying blind, so to say. Installation was very easy, just adopt it in Unifi and Bob's your uncle. Also, things seem faster - should have bought one years ago, in hindsight .... ah well.
