A switch is a device with which it is possible to connect computers into a (local area) network, provided your computers all have an appropriate networking device installed. Switches can be daisy chained to form larger networks and come in managed and unmanaged variaties. The unmanaged versions generally cannot filter data and will forward any data that is fed into them, so they are better suited for small networks. Switches are easy to set up (just plug in the network cables) and allow you to share printers, storage space and other network resources with your entire home or office network.

Bought this about 3 weeks ago to replace my 8 port unmanaged net gear switch as I need more ports and Poe as I also put in some unifi access points around my home, after reading the reviews on pb tech I also bought a cheep power lead but it turns out the people at pb tech listen to feed back and give you an au power cordLove this switch and the unifi eco system those I would be nice to see a switch with more poe ports on it in a deck top form-factor as I don’t have a place in my house for a sever rack and I use unifi ac points a unifi cameras and 8 ports don’t cut it

If you're after a 16 port gigabit switch with POE+ then this is perfect at 2/3 the price of the full rack-mount size options , however, it's power budget is 1/3 of those but plenty for a WiFi AP and a few cameras. As for it being a paperweight, it does appear to be parallel imported with a US power cable but a new cable (if you don't have one lying around anyway) costs all of $3 - hardly a paperweight!Currently out of stock so may not be coming back, a shame. Hopefully there'll be a NZ version soon.

I never owned or used a managed switch, but as our home network (if you like to call it this way) has grown steadily over the years some action was basically overdue. I have the new switch sitting right before the router and the information it provides (it 'fits' quite nicely into Unifi) is quite interesting. No more flying blind, so to say. Installation was very easy, just adopt it in Unifi and Bob's your uncle. Also, things seem faster - should have bought one years ago, in hindsight .... ah well.

This switch is easy to config interface and adop in UNIFI, toms of options in configurations. PoE aupport. Best price performance, recomended.
I use an old Cisco switch that only support up to 100 Mbps. So, I recently upgraded my internet speed to 400 Mbps, and I need 3 POE ports for three devices (2 APs and UCK G2+). This is perfect fit for my situation along with 6 directly connect devices. I find the mobile app to be more useful to setup the device compare to the web UI. The only issue I have is configuring a trunk port and link aggregation; maybe just me come from Cisco CLI environment.Con:- There's no rack mount hardware included, only wall mount hardware.
This is a great switch that works without hickup with my UDM-Pro. I have noticed that there are some quirks with regard to the PoE ports and a U6-LR. I've tried this combo with solid and stranded cat 6, and cat 5e and there remain issues with the U6-LR not having enough power, causing the AP to power cycle, you'll only catch the issue when you try a more strenuous test, in this case speed test can kick this into a power cycle within 5 sec of starting the test. Reviewing AP logs will give you no useful issue on diagnosing this.I've tried to monitor the power draw, but it should still operate , as a single POE port can handle 30w -according to the specs-, the U6-LR should only draw ~18w. Resolution to my problem is just using an external PoE.Beyond this issue, this easily powers all my flex minis and cleans up the areas where those are located. This is really where this switch is most handy. I'm sure a standard U6 AP would do fine on this.TLDR: If You're already in the Unifi system this is a great switch with all the managed switching you could need, but don't expect the PoE ports to power some of your heavier power drawing AP's (even if you're not close to maxing out the 30w port cap or the 45w overall switch cap). If you're not in the Unifi system, then I would look elsewhere for a managed PoE switch.
Despite the description, this switch is NOT rack mountable and does NOT have a rack kit. It has a good little bracket for wall hanging. Of course, you could place this switch on a shelf mounted within a rack, but that's not rack-mounting it.
As usual, Ubiquiti has not let me down. This switch was easy to add to my existing network. I needed more ports to wire the remaining rooms in the house and this was everything I needed.
Excellent product again fron Unifi. Upgraded to this 8 port POE and 8 port data, total 16 ports, from my two other 8 port switches, also from Unifi. Nice texture and white color, with cool lookin network lights at 1Gbps. Yes, 1Gbps with Xfinity or ting, makes the home faster than the office, even over wifi. Easily managed, and small footprint next to cable modem. Solid product, and happy with adding it to my LAN.
I have several Unifi products and am a big fan. This is the first plastic case offering I've used and my concerns have been alleviated. This switch works great and has all the features I expected in a Unifi line! The only thing I would quibble over is their marketing claim that this is a 16-port POE switch, which is confusing. There are 16 ports and it is a POE switch, but only half of the ports are POE capable.
