Uni Kuru Toga Roulette Mechanical Pencil - Gun Metallic - 0.5 mm
The Kuru Toga stands out as one of the most innovative mechanical pencils. It features a revolutionary, built-in mechanism that rotates the lead incrementally every time you lift the pencil, resulting in a uniformly sharp point. The Kuru Toga also uses a unique lead that is softer on the outside and harder at the core, which is in contrast to standard leads that are harder on the outside but softer in the middle. This works together with the pencil's rotation mechanism to ensure a sharp point at all times. The 0.5mm graphite lead refill can be found here.

The pencil feels great in my hand, even though i have a death grip, although it did get a bit sweaty after the first page. The rotating lead mechanism took some time to get used to, requiring me to adopt a different grip to hold the pen more vertical. Once i got the mechanism working, it really worked, although it still formed a chisel with my much softer colored lead which honestly was my fault for not looking at the softness.

The absolute best pencil I have ever used. When I'm writing on the go, pencils are fantastic as my fountain pens bleed through most pocket notebooks so this is great for a on the go writer! Highly recommend! Jetpens and Uni never disappoint.

Used the standard edition all the way through a year of middle school, all my years of high school, and through a year of college before a piece of faulty lead got jammed in it. Bought the pen for 12 dollars at an office supply store.Figured since I'll probably be using my new pencil for as long as it lasts I'll go all out, so I got the Roulette Edition for as much as I bought the standard edition here and it performs spectacularly. The pencil feels great in my hand, is comfortable to hold in my hand with no slippage, and continues to keep my strokes consistent. A pure and simple improvement from the Standard edition, for myself at least.

Disclaimer: I use this pencil for art and not writing, so the roulette function of the pencil is not useful, and doesn't actually work with what I'm using it for. I knew that buying it, and am not mad at that whatsoever. With that in mind...The main reason I bought this pencil was because it looked visually like what I am used to in a mechanical pencil. It's not too thick, it's not rounded, it's not cheap looking plastic, etc. I don't really need anything crazy fancy or special, I just want it to look and feel right, so even though I don't use this pencil for its roulette function, it DOES look and feel right regardless. I have done lots of drawings in my sketchbook with it and I'm very happy with it. I have done lots of drawings in my sketchbook with it and I'm very happy with it. I can get clean, thin, fairly uniform lines with this pencil, which is exactly what I like. The eraser it comes with is also honestly not bad. It feels easy to draw with, so I'm sure it'd be easy to write with, too. Overall I'd recommend this even if you're not interested in the roulette function and just want a generally good mechanical pencil for drawing.
I'm a light handed writer so the grip works great for me, it helps keep the pencil locked between my fingers. You would hear some squeaking sound whenever you click but it's normal because it's made from metal or alike. The color combination of black and chrome is the #1 reason why I bought this.
I feel left out, as I read these reviews. I have two of these and I never get the auto rotating/self-feeding lead action everyone talks about (and one of the reasons I tried these). They are very good otherwise, have a good feel in the hand and all of that. But my order didn't come with the special sauce. Any ideas what might be amiss? I have used different .5mm leads (the one I have with me has red lead but I have another with regular black) and never gotten it to work.
My boyfriend happened across a TikTok about this pencil and then happened to bring it up to me. By wild coincidence I had just recently watched the "Why you need an overengineered..." videos on JetPens' YT so I knew I could find the pencil he was talking about. His deskmat at home is mostly black and white so I picked this one because it had the metal grip. He loves it. He even picked up a silly little single-pencil pencil holder to keep it in. Thank you!
I love this pencil! I feel my writing is sometimes too soft to turn the lead but it has an indicator to show if it's turning or not. Overall I'm very happy with this pencil. I had only used very cheap mechanical pencils before this so my review comes from a newb but I am so happy I upgraded!!
A mazing build quality. The weight of the front half of the pencil feels great, the aluminum grip is easy to hold. My only gripe is the hole on the grip however; it can be (somewhat) avoided when gripping.
I really like the Uni Kuru Toga, and coming from an admitted mechanical pencil junkie that's saying something! I found it to be well balanced with enough weight to be of substance, but not heavy. The knurled metal grip area is a larger diameter than the body of the pencil and makes it very comfortable in the hand for extended writing, sketching, or note-taking. If you're a draftsman you'll appreciate the rotating lead feature, as it really does generate a conic point for consistent line widths. Also the small diameter eraser allows precise erasures for those little oops! corrections. I'm finding this to be a go-to pencil in my collection, and a fine writing instrument.
