It completely redefined my way of producing. Delivery was incredibly fast. The Apollo x4 is a beast of an interface and even so the UaD plugins included in the bundle.

This thing does what it does really, really well. The question you have to ask yourself, prior to investing in this system, is whether or not you are ready to take your music production entirely online. If you plan to keep at least one foot in the analog world, the idea of virtual-izing EVERyTHING may not appeal to you. Sure, in theory you can still use outboard gear, but what's the point? There are a few things that annoy me about UA and their philosophy. For instance, I had trouble installing the software, due to no fault of my own. I had a brand new computer with a brand new OS, and getting Console, the UA control surface for the Apollo, installed was an ordeal, during which UA's customer support was missing in action. I had a brand new computer with a brand new OS, and getting Console, the UA control surface for the Apollo, installed was an ordeal, during which UA's customer support was missing in action. They were simply not ready, and that is not cool. I had to figure it out by myself, and that included running obscure Terminal commands and other non-user-friendly shenanigans, which were really well hidden on their website. I wish they'd invest in flawless customer assistance, and I believe they could save the money to do so if they stopped producing their rather embarrassing funny commercials with hilarious 70s characters. Once everything was up and running, I feel like I experienced a quantum leap in the quality of my recordings. After having compromised earlier with the meek Solo version of this device, I now finally have the necessary DSP power to run multiple EQs, compressors and other emulations while tracking. I'm now getting that sound without any hassle. One last gripe: Console does not respect some very basic Mac App rules, such as the simple and important hide command. You can't get rid of the thing. That seems like a silly, and frankly arrogant oversight, which has been persisting for years, btw. So UA are not the best at listening to their users. It's their way or the highway. I'm dreading the day my expensive plugins are not recognized for some freakish reason, and I am losing years of work because of it. None of my complaints are enough to give the Apollo x4 a lower score than I love it. Just know that I also hate it at times. But hey, maybe that's what love is really all about.

I use this product for vocal mostly and I couldn't be happier with the way the quality of the unison preamps changed the game for me and I came from using the apogee duet 2! This blew it out of the water for me... really happy with the UA Apollo X4

For years I had debated whether I needed âvintageâ gear for my home studio. Having just completed my first project with the Apollo x4 I can say it was absolutely worth the investment for me.The quad processing power is just right for my home studio, I have not maxed out the DSP yet. Since I donât record drums or a full band at home, there is plenty of power here to handle a small group. More often Iâll use one or two inputs at a time. Two headphone outputs is important to me so that each musician gets their own mix.I ended up spending about another $2000 to get the full UAD set of plug-ins. I would have preferred to spend half that much now and add more down the road, but the economics work out that you get a much better deal when you purchase them upfront. I would have had about 10 plug-ins, but now I have all 66 and I have already used close to half of them.A lot of money for a home studio but if you purchased a dedicated tube preamp and compressor youâd spend a similar amount, and it would sound great but it wouldnât be as flexible. It was easy to set up, for me it âjust workedâ. UA support took a couple of days to respond when I had a question but they gave a thorough response. UA has great videos on their website to help you learn how to use each plugin. The buying experience from B&H was excellentâit arrived in perfect condition a day earlier than I expected. Itâs an investment, but if you are dedicated to learning how to use the equipment you will get professional results. I can strongly recommend.
Excellent, easy-to-use interface. Well built, great features with two headphone sockets, multiple output formats, and solid software that makes control room monitoring a breeze. I only dropped the fifth star because of plugin limitations which I hadn't expected. The unit can only run so many UAD plugins, so keep that in mind if you run larger projects. Otherwise it's the best and most portable interface I've owned. If UAD would add midi sockets to their range they'd be perfect, but this comes close.
I had the original Apollo and this updated version sounds crisper, clearer, and a more 3D full bodied sound. I also love the talk back feature! I love UA Audio gear and plugins, however, my wallet does not! đ
It's so easy and never fails. Gets really hot though so be careful on cloth surfaces. My only gripe is how greedy a brand ua is. Flawless performance nonetheless
Great UA X4 Interface with 4 XLR Microphone combo jacks. Note - You will need a genuine Thunderbolt 3 cable (not a USB C cable), not included.
