Amazing and a great buy

These shoes are fantastic. I needed something for wearing with jeans that has solid traction for work (I'm in roofing) as well as in the rain and in slick conditions. The MTE-1 outsole is aggressive without becoming a trip hazard, and they are warm without roasting your feet. As far as eye candy, they're incredibly good looking and can be worn with most outfits and don't look out of place.Regarding the feel of them, they're very secure and tightness is easily adjusted with the laces. They don't bind in any area along the laces, and the higher top keeps them under your pant legs. The all-black with the gum colored sole makes these very versatile, and I'm now looking at a low top one for wear with shorts.Highly recommend!!

I always wear size 10 in Adidas shoes and so I ordered a size 11 because of the earlier review I read on the product. The size 11 was way too big for me. I called Backcounty and they were so quick in making the exchange for a size 10.5 and that was still too big a size. So I called Backcounty and they sent me the size 10 that I should have ordered from the very beginning. Size 10 fits my size 10 foot very good.I needed this shoe for work and Backcounty made sure that I was well-taken care of in this process of getting the right size I needed. Thank you!Every customer service rep was gracious and very quick in helping me.

Great shoes, laces too short for some bizarre reason
8 January 2023

Very warm and very well put together from first impressions. Sole very grippy.Quite narrow, something to be aware of. Laces are far too short - I have wide feet but the the shoes obviously do fit me, however the laces are not long enough to do up properly unless I skip a set of eyelets which is obviously ridiculous. Most Vans have laces that if anything are on the long side, I have no idea why the laces on these are so short.

Great winter shoes!
16 October 2023

Love these. They are everything I hoped they would be. Very well made and could be a great tactical boot. Haven't tested them in torrential rain yet but they handled the drizzle I walked in just fine and they are very warm. The inner soles are also pretty cushy. No complaints at all. Very comfy shoe all round. One thing to note, I had a feeling they would run a bit narrow and I was right, so I bought a half size up and they fit perfectly. If you want to wear with hiking socks, I would go up a full size, maybe even a size and a half.

Happy camper ;-)

Comfortable pair of boots, with the familiar 'vans fit' I know from all my other vans shoes.True to size I would say.Impressed with the level of sturdy foot/ankle support you'd expect to find in hiking/outdoor style boots. The lining definitely makes a difference in temperature regulation and keeping your feet warm in the colder winter weather. So far, traction of the soles have been great for recent outdoor pursuits. Been on little hikes through wet hills and rocky woodlands as well as the beach walks, they hold up great! Happy with this purchase for sure!

Made for walking, but not quite..
26 September 2023

I love the look of these, and I also love the idea of them, but the reality however, not so much. I used the fact I was going on Holiday to Japan (which is notorious for walking) to buy a pair as I loved the look and idea, and I do love Vans and an excuse to buy some. Vans are typically some of the most comfy shoes you can wear, once I bought TNT's years ago, i refused to wear anything else, but these really aren't. It's like Vans took their formula, over engineered it for the concept of these for only the most regular of feet because they can't please every foot shape with the added cushion, and made them far less comfy, in fact uncomfortable after just a short while. A company that is usually so reliable for comfort, missed the mark pretty drastically, to the ... MoreI love the look of these, and I also love the idea of them, but the reality however, not so much. A company that is usually so reliable for comfort, missed the mark pretty drastically, to the point my feet would have been far less shredded in some cheaper boots that I own that I shall not name. It one of those where i let my heart rules my head, and it's a coi flip between wishing I shouldn't and wearing them anyway.

NOT for snow/wet conditions
9 March 2023

Cool style, soft...Warm but for sure NOT water resistant. More like a sponge. For sure buy the waterproofing aftermarket if you want to run these in actual winter conditions. Stays wet for hours after using for 15m of mild snow shoveling. Runs a tad narrow in the toes as others have noted, but thats the same with all Vans for me. Other small issue: laces are a tad too short to wear loose so you can slip in-out easily.

Super comfy warm walking boots - passes the comic con test
16 December 2022

I bought these in the Black Friday sale and, wow, they are worth it. I work a lot of comic cons, and I usually wear a pair of vans, but they aren't always the most comfy after prolonged time on your feet. I tried these out at a con, and they were great. My feet were comfortable and warm and the colours blend in well with dark clothing. I also tried them out in the recent -5°C icy weather, and although my feet were a little numb after standing at a train station for over an hour (yay one day with no train strikes), I think this could easily be remedied with a nice pair of thick socks. I was able to walk on the icy floor without any incident, while being careful of course.I made the decision to get a full size bigger than I usually do, as I thought that leaving room ... MoreI bought these in the Black Friday sale and, wow, they are worth it. The ideal hiking boot and...
21 October 2023

I used these boots for a for 4 day hiking expedition through Dartmoor doing 13-17 km per day and they were perfect. They kept my feet dry through deep puddles and mud. It did rain the last two days and my feet eventually got wet but it was mainly from water entering from my socks so ill have to give the blame to the rest of my gear. Like all my vans shoes they are extremely comfortable. Feels like walking on clouds. I was also extremely impressed with grip. I didn't slip once even when crossing rivers. I've tried other boots from different brands and i dont think they can compare in terms of performance, comfort, and durability. Once again super impressed and look forward to using these boots again.
