We just bought another of these for my son to use as he learns to safely use a knife. I've had one for more than 20 years and it has been absolutely brilliant. The blades are fantastically sharp and hold an edge with little maintenance. At 20 years old I eventually had to replace the spring in the scissors (very easy, parts from Victorinox) and oil the hinge points, but that's it. The huntsman model has the perfect selection of tools for the outdoors (blade, saw, awl and scissors are all used extensively). You'll not be disappointed to spend the few extra dollars for this model and with a lifetime guarantee, it's hard to go wrong.

I bought this recently after deciding to buy a swiss army knife, and its lived up to all my expectations. I bought the oil to go along with it in case some off the tools were a bit stuck but i can say they all work perfectly. the scissors are some of the best I've used and all the blades are sharp and will cut with ease. the screwdrivers work great and so do the rest of the tools I've used so far. My one complaint is that the hook is a bit difficult to access for me, as i have smaller nails and the part you use to fold out the hook is partially blocked by the key ring, so if they could possibly resolve this issue in future models i think it would be perfect. but overall thats a very small issue, so i still believe this is a five star knife.

Wonderful knife, small but has a great selection of useful tools. the Phillips head screwdriver is a brilliant inclusion! I've carried a Swiss army knife for years and they are a very useful multi-tool.This one will be a first knife birthday gift for a (sensible) young man and I know he will get much use from it over the years. I feel this model has just the right tools in a compact and easy to carry form that wont raise any eyebrows when its used, and wont feel like a brick in the pocket. Additionally the very reasonable cost made this a solid value proposition, especially given Vitorinox's reputation for quality. Knives like this stand the test of time, and the test of use. Cant recommend them more. I've bought a few from this vendor now and the transactions have ... What more can I say? It is a Swiss Army Knife. I got it on sale for a fantastic price. But the knife would be worth it to buy at full price. The price at CT is the same as anywhere else, so I got it at CT.I was surprised at the functionality and the feeling in my hand. This is a 4 layer knife, and I usually prefer a 3 layer Swiss Army Knife (SAK) because the 3 layer units are obviously thinner and weigh less, as such the 3 layer guys are easier to carry in my pocket. However, this 4 layer knife carries exactly the same to me. The extra weight and size are not noticeable. So I love the way this "fireman" (improperly named - the real name is "Fieldmaster") feels in my pocket and hands.I also really like the set of tools on this knife. You would not think that a ... So I love the way this "fireman" (improperly named - the real name is "Fieldmaster") feels in my pocket and hands.I also really like the set of tools on this knife. You would not think that a saw is all that useful, but, after you have one of these you will love that tool. The saw is extremely sharp and will cut through a branch or a fan belt in seconds. Really handy. The other thing I like about this knife is that it has a Phillips screwdriver and not a corkscrew. The only thing the corkscrew tool is good for, in my opinion, is to hold the extra-fine mini flat blade screwdriver (which is an add-on item). Having the mini screwdriver is great, but I think the full-sized Phillips driver is a better choice. The other thing about this knife is the scissors. I will not buy a SAK without scissors because that tool is so useful, I use them all the time and they work great. The toothpick and tweezers are another set of tools I would never be without. I use these very often as well. I work with wood and slivers are a notorious addition to my fingers, so I use the tweezers to get them out. It works great. The only negative about this knife, and it is very picky, is the parcel hook. I have never used this tool in any of my SAK's and I wonder why it is there. But, it comes with the package, so, that is the way it is. It is a minor flaw in an otherwise perfect knife. This is the second most popular SAK, after the “classic” which is really not a knife in my view. This is my now favourite pocket carry knife. I used to love the super tinker, but this is exactly the same knife knife with a saw. Love it.It really is a wonderful addition to your pocket and I highly recommend it.
Machinist by trade and I have always been looking for the best pocket knife multitool. Was spending a lot of time looking at Leatherman style tools, than decided why not give a swiss army knife a try. Worried about quality from knock off ones in my youth I was hesitant and decided to start small with the tinker. Delivered very fast to my surprise but the real treat was how well made this is. Everything is tight and the blades are SHARP. Screwdrivers actually function so well I don't feel the need to just go grab a real screwdriver. On to the finish, very high polish mirror reflection out of the metal. Only tool marks I can even see are on thin edges and I have to squint. Overall very impressed and definitely won't hesitate to upgrade to bigger more exspensive ... MoreMachinist by trade and I have always been looking for the best pocket knife multitool. My first was what would now be a Ranger, in 1983. Loved making walking sticks for my grandparents, with all the engravings and carvings etc. All done with my Swissie. Years later there was Leatherman... and I invested in the heavy duty pliers-based multitool. With knife laws being what they are now, and seeing some really cool little add-on gadgets you get now (please stock the FireAnt & FireFly permenently), I got my first Swissie for years: this Spartan. The basic model that doesn't leave me without the Awl or the Cork Screw. Thin & light and 'innocent looking'. Handy for food prep and unpacking at work.I can say that the old saying, "They don't make them like they used to", doesn't apply here. There is no more 'double-jointed' blades that can't take too much ... MoreMy first was what would now be a Ranger, in 1983. There is no more 'double-jointed' blades that can't take too much pressure during deeper cuts. The big Screw Driver has a handy stop at 90 degrees. Love the tools in the scales (why can't they all have the Plus option all the time?) To me, they seem more corrosion-resistant, smoother and more 'drum tight' than my '80's one. All I can say is, it won't be long before I get my hands on a Ranger again, and replay some childhood memories out in the woods...
I have been using my huntsman for over 10 years now and this is the one constant throughout all my ventures into the wild - be it the dense hot jungles of India, the Nordic woodlands and mountains or the unforgiving Himalayan hikes. The most useful tools for me personally have been the knife, saw, scissors, can opener and awl. Recently i have upgraded the fireant kit to this tool and augmented its functionality. The testament of my recommendation for this product is that i have gifted it to most of my hiking buddies and everyone loves it.Suggestions - bring back the blue colour version - though most of us have custom scales, blue would be a good colour for wilderness explorations as it is easier to find. Please never retire it!
This is actually the Fieldmaster and not the Fireman. The Fireman is larger and does not have scissors or the hook. But this Fieldmaster is a great pocket knife multi tool. A perfect go to as your first and maybe final EDC tool!! It is relatively small for a pocket tool and has almost everything you need for camping, hiking, hunting, house tinkering, work at a desk, or work in tech/trades. If you forgot your main tool/s, this almost has all you need in a jam. I feel this is my EDC tool and the one I can just make sure I always have in an urban out and about setting, at home, desk job, tech job, and even some trades work, but for sure in any outdoor setting. If you only bring one tool in a pocket in case I don't feel there is a better one for the size and simplicity. ... MoreThis is actually the Fieldmaster and not the Fireman. Plier based tools may be better for some but for a similar/close to the same quality you pay a lot more and carry a bulkier/heavier tool. The scissors can't be beat on this one and all the other tools work really well, you cannot say the same for all the other plier based top brands tools, they are close, but are very plier centric and do that great. Buy both eventually if wanted but in my opinion start with this one to see if you need the more expensive choices and this will not be a waste of your money. I can't say enough.
Well, I received my first Victorinox as a New Year gift about 15 years ago. As you understand, it was Spartan. Light, little, well made, I loved it and used a lot.I don’t even know, how it survived everything, that happened with it.It helped me overcome countless number of challenges and accompanied me in mountains, kayaking, field, city, bike etc and etc.And I used it with imagination. But I always was wondering, why do Victorinox say, that key ring is an instrument, when it is a key ring. And one day I got I was wrong.Me and my fiancé went to the sea and visited a beach club. And suddenly my girl says, that she won’t swim as her top is out of order. The cord supporting bra wasn’t attached to the bra. There should be something - a ring or something like that. ... Or lost, I don’t remember. But I wanted to swim with my fiancé. And I started thinking a lot. But I had nothing but cell phone, wallet and Spartan in my shorts.I looked at the key ring from my Spartan and wondered if I can use it to repair the top.It wasn’t easy, but I did it.The day was saved, I was a hero.It was the year we married and wife said that moment she understood I am a reliable man.Spartans main blade is already drained, so I care of it and don’t use it a lot. But one day I will tell my kids this story)
To me this is exactly what a SAK should be. When I think of a swiss army knife its the Spartan that comes to mind. I got the white Spartan as a gift and it is beautiful. I have gotten many compliments on it. I am not a big outdoorsman so I dont need a saw or many of the other tools that the bigger SAKs come with. I use the small blade for most things and save the big one for times when I need to do some serious cutting. I added the screwdriver to the corkscrew that comes in handy. I often find uses for the tweezers. I use the toothpick for many things other than cleaning between my teeth.Again, the white scales make all the difference . Its beautiful
