I am VERY happy I ended up with this attachment.I had originally bought the Vitamix blender (2 years ago) with the rumors of the food processor coming soon (2 years prior) in mind. But when the processor attachment came out, the reviews weren't amazing; many said that it doesn't perform as good some other popular brands. So I ended up purchasing a different brand, and yes - I was happy with it's performance, but I couldn't get over the weight of the extra base PLUS the extra storage base required to find a place to keep and move it (it wasd far too heavy to keep in an upper cabinet) as often as I planned to use it.Finally, I decided to try the Vitamix food processor attachment to try it out because my blender is my all-time favourite appliance and the ... MoreI am VERY happy I ended up with this attachment.I had originally bought the Vitamix blender (2 years ago) with the rumors of the food processor coming soon (2 years prior) in mind. I love this thing just as much as the blender! As a home cook who prepares meals, snacks, condiments, etc. from scratch at least twice a day, it performs great! The blender base lives on our countertop, so when I need the processor, I simply grab the processor attachment stored in my upper cabinet and swap out the blender and am ready to go (rather than having to pull out another heavy base, move something to find an outlet, etc.)!In response to the negative reviews I read about it not being as good as others for the price: Yes, purchasing the attachment for a very similar price as I could get an entire new appliance for was a hard pill to swallow. And yes, there are a few times (see below for example) when I find uneven/inconsistent peices after pulsing or processing. However, from my research, this is due to the fact that Vitamix is a multi-purpose motor, whereas other processors are designed specifically for processing (not blending). But as a home cook, this is MORE than sufficient for me, its awesome! The only reason I gave it a 4/5 is for the following 2 reasons:1) The attachment comes with small and large shredding/slicing blades; I don't feel the large is that much larger than the small. But I bought the julienne attachment and it is awesome!2) The regular processor blade performs great, except for in extra-large (3/4 full) large batches; however, as I mentioned above, I know this is due to the fact the motor (being multipurpose between blenders and the processor,t he "pulse" is not a even, but hardly noticeable in 80% of the tasks). When I try to process 4/5 medium onions together, for example, I do end up with a few larger pieces. But I can always pick these out and quickly chop (or throw in the freezer with veggie scraps to male soup!)

Soooo easy! Soooo fast! It is absolutely insane how fast this sucker slices a cucumber or makes fries from a whole potato. No exaggeration-- I can't even count to two before the whole thing is done. It does this perfect. I don't have any part of the vegetables left on top of the slicing/shredding discs. I have been making french fries almost every night for the past week, since I got this. For the fries, I'm talking about the veggie sticks disc. I use three yellow potatoes, a drizzle of (very little- just enough to get the spices to stick) olive oil, and some non-salt seasoning. I mixed with my hands to get them all coated and pop it in my air fryer. Perfection and soooo easy!I've julienned carrots and sliced cucumbers to marinate with vinegar, a pinch of sugar, ... MoreSoooo easy! Soooo fast! I was thinking it would be as loud as the blender. It is not. It's actually quieter for some reason. I'm not sure what the self detect really does for it, except that it won't allow it to start up unless the attachments are on correctly, so that is a good feature for safety. If you have the means to buy this attachment for your blender, you will not be disappointed!

If Vitamix made it compatible with older machines, they would face a LOT of BIG lawsuits and fines. That said, this thing is still a HUGE disappointment. The biggest thing is the lack of speed control. It only has one speed, and that is super fast and super loud. I'm used to my vitamix being loud, but when using the food processor, it is painfully so. I've taken to even wearing hearing protection when using it.Not every application of a food processor requires full speed. A food processor is great for kneading bread dough. However the Vitamix food processor goes way too fast for that. (Also, for the bread dough, it's generally better to use a non-bladed kneading arm. For those not familiar, imagine what the "blade" would be like on a toy food processor made for a five-year-old)I've been told that the app for controlling the Ascent and Venturist series vitamix ("Perfect Blend") does have speed control for automated settings with speed control on the iOS (Apple) version, but Vitamix had a falling out with the company that made the apps so no such update for Android.I find this inexcusable. Vitamix needs to take the initiative and hire some people/create an internal division to make a new app and keep it up to date for all users. (Also annoys me that there were never any functions introduced for the AER disc container.)All this really makes it feel like Vitamix has abandoned the self-detect automated functions completely. The safety features, while annoying sometimes, are understandable. Or at least they would be if they worked right. I frequently have the thing stop because the lid doesn't snap on tight or spike on the larger portion of the "pusher" doesn't make complete contact. The safety feature of the spike should not have been put on the pusher (or maybe the spike should have been a bit longer) because it's common for people to need to start a food processor, then put food through the shoot and place the pusher on afterwords, as it's running. (I especially consider this when grinding 8-oz bricks of cheese with the shredder attachment. I hate that I have to dirty a knife when I'm putting the entire block into the machine.)Cleaning is also a pain in thedonkey. Unlike the blender containers, there's no blending it clean. The pushers, especially need to be cleaned by external methods. Not a problem when I had a dishwasher, but since moving to a house without one.......The problem is, they are so tall that it's impossible to get down to get any debris that gets into the hallow pushers. The little one isn't TOO bad, but the big one has a large surface area blocked by a relatively tall design. It's hard to get anything down inside to scrub the inside floor of the pusher. You don't put any food in that part, but with the holes in the bottom of it, which are probably there to allow air to pass through and avoid creating a vacuum while pressing food down, also allow bits of food through. That food then dries and is a HUGE pain in thedonkey to get out. (The dishwasher makes it easier because it has fairly high and constant pressure spray that gets stuff out better than the sprayer attachment on a regular sink.)As far as build quality... Well, I'm not much impressed there either. This morning while putting it away, I noticed the spin blade was nicked in several places and felt a bit rough. I understand a blade is going to get dull over time, but this thing is looking rough. Blenders have the advantage in that they (should) have dull blades. They're meant to crush, not cut. Food processors, on the other hand, have (and should have) sharp blades. They're meant to cut. This thing is sharp, but not in the clean smooth way it should be. I imagine at this point that instead of slicing the food at high speed, it's more micro-stabbing stuff. (Also leads to things getting stuck on the blade.)Also, combining the topics of build quality and washing, I'm CONSTANTLY terrified I'm going to break the safety-system activation spike on the large pusher when cleaning it.

Highly recommend for anyone with an Ascent series blender and wants to save some time in the kitchen. I chose my specific Vitamix blender, the A2500, for its ability to handle other attachments such as a food processor. This is key because it is another appliance that runs from the same base -- saving kitchen space! I do not think I lost anything by choosing this two-in-one route. The processor is incredibly powerful. The different blade types give you the option to create any size slice or fine mince you need. In seconds. It took me a few tries to figure out the different blades (and how to stack them) but once I did, this device was slicing my carrots paper-thin in the blink of an eye, saving me a lot of (less precise) chopping. I do love idea of space saver - one very powerful motor is awesome and it is warranted for 7 or even 10 years. It is super powerful, which is also awesome. Now the hate parts:1. The plastic leaks into food, and it is a design issue. In theory that universal blade looking like propeller rotated by the metal piece from motor. In practice, the black plastic touches the bottom of the container, and you can see how the bottom of the black plastic is eaten tiny bit after each use, and the clear container gets black plastic deposits. I would imagine some of it ends up in the food. I love Vitamix, and recommend it to everyone, but this design needs to be fixed. On a sad side there are very few attachments, and they are super expensive. I respect Vitamix right to put any price on the product, but at least give people more of a product. And one more thing, is there is no variable speed for the Food Processor.
WOW. I LOVE THIS. The product designers really hit it out of the park with this food processor. I adore that it is an attachment and not another full electronic to have to plug in to an outlet. The way it packs up into itself and comes with all the blades I would ever need has been awesome and the capacity is GREAT. I make apple pies often and the mandolin slicer has been perfect in having a consistent size and thickness across all 7-8 apples I throw in this thing at a time; I can't get all of the apples done in one go (that would be an absurdly large capacity needed) but it's so easy to dump and keep going that it's not inconvenient at all. The blades have been awesome in pulverizing nuts and combining pie crusts, I really can't recommend this enough! Having this ... MoreWOW. I LOVE THIS. Great product but blade storage container design really missed this one! Storage container gets 1 Star for that! The blade storage container could have easily been designed to stack under the food processor base by changing the shape and design of the blade storage lid. Instead I have to use 2 shelves because the blade container does not fit under (or on top) of anything. Even the processing lid won't sit on top of the blade container which that in itself would have made this 5 stars! All the parts have to be set in the cabinet independently which is a total waste of space.Lastly, I'm appreciate the lid is secure, but seriously, it is HARD to unclip both sides to remove the lid! I bought the Vitamix food processor and happy since already have the 64-ounce Low-Profile Container (Vitamix Blender meaning). So, I thought this was great and I only require one machine to use multiple attachments since I do not have much space in my house. I used Multi-Use Blade to Finely chop chilly, garlic and ginger and was disappointed. It only has one speed and did not chop properly. So, I called the customer service line to tell them about what happened and ask if I can talk to someone about what they can do to improve their quality or call me back so that I can give my feedback. The customer service rep told me that they are recording our conversation over the phone and will email to the appropriate team of what I was facing with chopping issue. I have returned the food processer for now. I have my old Braun machine which I usually use but I thought now it is time to change to Vitamix food processor. I think Vitamix food processor confusing to use. I still use Vitamix to make my smooth which works great! I hope Vitamix will investigate this matter to fix the chipping issues I'm facing. I also like Spice grater as well which works well.Thank you
I bought this to use for chopping and slicing foods, hoping to make my cooking journey shorter and simpler. I found the blades provided were just too thick for what I was looking for and I will have to buy the thinner slicing blades.Another problem I have with it is when I use it to slice things. What I found is that the last few inches of the item would get turned sideways and then instead of say sliced carrots I would have long pieces of carrots in with the short and I would need to take the time to cut them up. I also found that when I was doing cabbage I couldn't do it in long strips I would have to cut the cabbage up small to fit it in the curved hole provided to make it fit and again there were large leaves that just didn't get chopped up. Same with potatoes. If the potato is a large one I have to cut it up and I just find it easier to do on a cutting board then to use the food processor and then clean the food processor. (I have chronic pain and can't stand for too long. 20-30 minutes at a time. Doing a 20 minute recipe tends to take me 2 to 3 times as long as they say and then taking breaks in-between to have a break from the pain).I still haven't learned to use it for other things as I find it more energy consuming to use and clean it then to use some of the other tools in my house. I need to take sometime to explore the ways it can be used so that maybe I can get it to work for me and that I will not have wasted my money. I am disappointed with how it works in those respects.Otherwise it works well to chop and dice foods up quickly, very quickly. I was a little surprised at how fast the machine grabbed things. I didn't have a chance to push the food pusher down it moved so quickly. I learned to just leave the food pusher sitting on top of the veggies and not bother to hold it.
