It was a nice phone for exactly one year. Then, boom...poof...it died. It actually shorted out and caused trouble on our phone line because of it. Fortunately, it was a quick fix. Just unplugged and tossed it. Replaced it with an older phone which has kept ticking now for at least 20 years. Horrible when you can't get your money's worth anymore. Was it expensive? No. But it wasn't free either and should have lasted longer.

This phone was a replacement for my office desk and looks great in black. With the batteries for the Caller ID loaded, it sits firmly such that the base does not get pulled over the desk by the handset cord when talking. The line cord is fully attached, no plugin, which can be a problem if your telephone outlet is more than 1.4 m away. I also wanted to buy two more phones in white to match the decor in other rooms and found out that this model has been phased out by the manufacturer. Only a few are left on the market, especially in white.

This phone comes in handy with it's backup battery compartment for power outages and it's clear sounding. The volume control doesn't offer a wide variety so it's quite basic in it's functionality and opportunities to the user. It's more for temporary use when moving to a new location or a place that needs a phone right away but perhaps can't afford the portable upgrade. You don't plus this phone into an outlet so it's less wires! That's another great thing about it. Easy to transport from room to room by just unhooking from the wall jack, nothing further. Provides good communication technology at the lowest cost. Every home should have one for a backup and for emergency. Overall, a good buy and it works effectively.

I purchased the vtech CD1113 phone at my local Walmart. It was not my first choice from t he online selections but the only item available locally. I've owned other vtech devices, and while they are not top of the line, they always worked well. I purchased the CD1113 to use with BasicTalk since sometimes cordless phones, or phones requiring electricity, can cause problems on VOIP. This phone does not provided the features others have mentioned, and does have an extremely short cord. Since it is hardwired, substitution of a longer cord is not an option. However, the reason for the one star rating is that this phone did not work properly. Voices were tinny and faded in and out. I guess it basically works - but barely. Three major design problems I can think of.-Buttons are too small. It's actually hard to dial unless you have small fingertips. Lots of room there, they could've easily made them bigger.-Both cords are fixed to the base - you can't replace either with a longer one or if damaged.-Hook button on handset can get pressed by your face! Obviously this depends on your face shape. Ridiculous! Multiple calls ended this way, meaning this thing is unusable.
I got this phone to put out in the garage. Did not want an expensive phone that was going to get all messed up. I'm sure glad it was cheap, but I guess you cannot expect much for $10. This phone has the following problems that were an issue for me.1. Cord is hard wired. I had to go back and get a coupler to connect it to my phone line. Did not wan't to spend the money to install a phone jack. This was supposed to be cheap and easy.2. Buttons do not light up, and there is no tone, so it is hard to tell if you completely pushed the button or not.3. Caller ID screen does not light up, and is hard to read in bright daylight, which seems to wash out the LCD display. I have not even tried to use any of the functions under the display.4. While this is not a good phone to MAKE calls with, with the exception of a little static, it works fine for ANSWERING calls. It has a loud ringer, and the voice is pretty good. And it does have a redial button. Once I learn to program in a few numbers, that will make it unnecessary to dial, which is almost impossible.
The instructions for setting the date and time are incomplete, so you have to experiment with the buttons to accomplish that. The dial pad is small and buttons close together, so, unless you are a child or have small hands, sometimes 2 buttons get pushed at the same time, then you have to start all over again. It would also be nice if the buttons lit up in the dark, otherwise you need to use a flashlight when dialing at night. Also, the LED display is on the other side of the dial pad, so if you want to verify the number you are dialing is correct, you have to keep switching back and forth, from the front of the phone and back of the phone to verify the number you want to dial, is "actually" being dialed, to avoid dialing the wrong number. BUT, sound clarity and volume, is better than some other more expensive phones that I have purchased. AND, for being under $10, it's a keeper if you don't mind the other inconveniences. I like that it works during power outages, as opposed to some cordless phones that radiate your brain and stop working when there is no electricity in the house.
The only reason I'm giving this phone a 1 rating is zero is not an option. I purchased this phone to replace an AT&T Trim line phone that developed problems after providing many, many years of great service. The VTech was a disappointment from the moment I used it. The earpiece picked up every sound of my fingers moving on the handset. The wall cord is "hardwired" so I couldn't use a longer cord to reach my wall jack. Lastly the picture on the box gives the impression the display on the back of the handset is "backlit." This is not the case which means you cannot read the caller i.d. when it's activated unless you're in a very brightly lit location.
The cords are too short. I'm lucky my desk is very close to the wall socket. I have to hold the base in my hand while I talk because the cord to the handset is so short. It's almost impossible to read the caller idea and the fact that it is on the back of the handset means you can't see call waiting caller id without stopping your conversation. Wish I had thought of that, it is obvious in the picture. The sound quality is ok but the volume can't be changed and it's too low to hold it a little way from my ear. It was only 10 bucks but it was a wasted 10 bucks.
Keep your expectations low, real low for this item. I purchased this for when our power goes out, so that I can still make phone calls using the landline. The real problems with this thing are that the key board is really small and DOES NOT ILLUMINATE. so you might find yourself in pitch black trying to make a call while you fumble with the key pad in the dark. I would recommend keeping a small LED flashlight velcro'ed to this thing. Otherwise, not bad. Ringer OK, listening volume good, and people listening to me on this thing said sound quality was excellent. Plus, its cheap, so what the heck, just buy it! nothing's perfect afterall!
