I've been a loyal fan of Weruva for years, so when it came time to switch my kitten to something better, I decided on this. The first few cans were fine, but I opened one this morning and the food inside was a greenish grey and not at all juicy. Super disgusting. Not sure if this is a one-off issue, but have written to Chewy in case there is a situation with Weruva as a company. The kitten was fine on the rest of the food, so not sure how this one was able to sneak in. All exp dates in the pack were the same, so unclear what happened, but I saw another review with a similar situation. Yuck.

I hate to be dramatic but I think this food has saved the life of 3 kittens/cats in my care. I’m a foster and sick shelter cat Mom. One I had a kitten just quit eating and drinking the food provided by the shelter (it wasn’t crappy food it was blue buffalo). I tried 8 brands and this was the only brand that picky litter would eat. She went from failing to thrive getting closer to death every day to a healthy adoptable kitten that gained weight every time I weighed her.It also saved my personal cat who have terrible immune systems and a really bad case of feline herpes. They got very sick to the point of not eating. I again tried many brand but this is the only brand they would eat. The formula is soft and liquidy so I can easily stir in their powder supplements ... My kitty has been notorious for not liking the “better” brands of kitten food (she’s on Blue Buffalo Tastefuls - not as bad) and I’ve sadly gotten lot refunded for it (I’m so sorry, Chewy). Finally, I tried this Weruva Chicken Kitten wet food and she surprisingly licks her plate empty! SHE LOVES IT! Usually, if the food has been out for an hour or two, it’s time to dump it but my kitty returns back for any small portion that might have left on her bowl and licks it dry. It’s honestly surprising. At first, I thought she didn’t like it as the first day of introduction didn’t go as planned and she just left it alone. The second time though was a huge success! She’s almost done with her 12 can and I was about to reorder but sadly, it’s not in stock. Help me, Chewy!

My first cat liked this when she was a kitten so I bought an entire pack but the new kitten really doesn't like it. She even did the digging motion that she hates it. She only ended up eating it when I added a topper and because she was just starving. Will not be buying again unfortunately. My cans did not have spoiled meat though everything looked pink and smelled fine.
My foster kitten was losing weight and turning up her little nose at the variety of food the shelter provided, so I found Weruva kitten food at a local pet store. It was the food she actually enjoyed (all flavors), so I ordered from Chewy, and helped her make weight to go off and be adopted. I deducted a star because I think the cans are under-filled. And, side note, this particular variant is my least favorite, visually.
I ordered a ton of this food in November 2022 to have on hand after the local pet store I had been getting it from ran out and I had trouble finding it anywhere. Nearly every can I opened was spoiled, greenish brown and many watery looking. I got a refund from Chewy, and didn't feed my kittens the discolored food, but even the non discolored cans (which were few and far between) gave my kittens diarrhea, which is dangerous, especially for such small and young animals. Pretty upsetting honestly. I'm wary of this food and wont be buying it again. Seems like Chewy should be doing a recall because I am seeing a number of people have said the same thing.
We took in a stray kitten a few weeks back, we tried this food since the kitten was very dehydrated, hungry and maybe 4 or 5 weeks old. The kitten wasted no time to gobble this food up, and within a couple days of feeding this food he appears healthier. It has a strong smell to it, and needs to be stirred when you first open the can. Great Food.
I am extremely frustrated with this brand. I use this brand for my adult cats. Over the past few years, I’ve tried this formula for my kittens. Like others have described, some cans are a nice pink color and come are greenish grey and rancid. I feel like I throw away about every third can, which is expensive and frustrating! I saw the comment about the email to the manufacturer. But I don’t buy their excuse. I don’t believe this is safe for my kittens and am looking for a permanent switch at this point.
First off, Chewy is great to deal with. As far as my purchases for the pickiest kitty I have ever served I'm not really sure. My cat is ill, and probably has no appetite no matter what I serve. She has a malignant tumor and is losing weight rapidlyShe seems to like creamy smooth food, and this fit the bill. It's really a kitten food, and my cat, since she was adopted is age unknown, but my guess is 14 or 15 years old. She had sevral teeth pulled last Aug, so she probably has a harder time eating and breaking down food than a healthy cat. Overall, I'd say give it a try for your kittens, it appears creamy and smooth and smells very neutral

Our pouched foods still have a 2-year shelf life, 3 years for cans, and this is accomplished through the cooking process. The ingredients are first cooked, and the cooked food along with other ingredients are then put into the can or pouch where they are hermetically sealed. The next step in the production is the retort process. Based upon the size of the can or pouch, the ingredients, and the density of the ingredients, the can or pouch is heated at a certain time and temperature. This phase, performed on international human food standards, is one of the critical control steps that is heavily monitored. This process is the commercial sterilization process that is designed to kill all single cell organisms. This is what gives our food a minimum two-year shelf life without adding preservatives.
