Woolworths Lemon and Pepper Tuna 95g

NIce to have for lunch. We received this as a sample through Woolworths Bunch program. I put the Woolworths Lemon and Pepper Tuna on some toast for lunch and it was delicious. There was a good consistency to the flavoured sauce which stayed on the toast without dripping off. The lemon flavour was quite noticeable with a hint of pepper. Despite having sugar listed as one of the ingredients it wasn't too sweet balancing with the natural tanginess of the lemon very well.

My All Time Favourite. We buy small tins of tuna on a regular basis. In fact, we have a dedicated tuna shelf in our fridge door with so may different flavours. Lemon pepper is my absolute favourite. I generally have it on dry biscuits and sometimes drain it and have salad with it. Great source of omega 3 and at around 100 calories a tin, you are getting the best of both worlds. Great to have for the 3pm pick me up instead of sugar laden biscuits or cake. At 90 cents per can it’s very affordable and better value than the more expensive brands

Tasty tuna. I love tuna toasted sandwiches and I used this sample to make one. The flavour was quite lemony which is exactly what it’s meant to be. the label on the can says FAD free but I was unaware what this term means. I am pleased to hear that it is more environmentally sustainable. The packaging does not tell where the tuna is from just that it is packaged in Thailand. I like to know where my product comes from

Nice Tuna Snack. What was supposed to be only a nice tuna snack, I converted it into a nice tuna salad. I added the product to some fresh salad variations, leaves, cucumber, tomato, onion, celery, avo, feta, olives and a light salad dressing and had it with some bread, as a light lunch, and it was a winner, for sure. I loved the flavours that were added to the tuna, lemon and pepper, and will be buying some more of these for sure. Great price, great product, highly recommended.

Easy lunch snack. This flavoured tuna can is perfect for lunch on the go! I have used it for both a toasted tuna, cheese and pickled onion sandwich and added it to a salad for lunch! Both times were delicious, the lemon flavour was just right! The can is small, easy to open and the perfect size for one! There was a lot of juice in each time and I found when draining, a lot of the smaller pieces of tuna drained out also!! A great option to have in the cupboard! Will buy again!

The Woolworths tuna comes from many sources (stated on the label). This essentially means that no-one can really say that every scrap of tuna in that tin came from multiple vessels that did not fish on a FAD. And what type of FAD are they referring to? A vessel can fish on a natural FAD (floating log) but they can't fish on a man made deployed FAD, they are both FADs but the labeller can't make that distinction. Dolphin Friendly label. Hmmm... again many sources... was this longline, pole and line or purse seine caught? We just need one fish, caught by a purse seiner while using a FAD, to rip up these consumer marketing labels. It is extremely likely that there is more than one fish in the cannery caught by this method. When the fish go from the vessel to land it's not easy to separate the certified caught from the non-certified, especially in a big cannery like they have in Thailand. With all of this retailers don't even go into the issue of how many sharks were caught, finned and bodies dumped (still alive), nor do labels say 'caught using modern slavery techniques' or do we put down how many turtles, whale sharks, dolphins, sunfish, rays or other by-catch. But I digress ..... The product.... the packaging is 100% recyclable. Excellent!The tuna, well it's tuna. The taste is in the lemon and pepper. I was disappointed to see the oil to tuna ratio, a lot of oil. Tipping out the oil meant losing a little too much tuna than I wanted. The oil is sunflower oil which I think is better than soybean oil. I used a bit for a sandwich and mixed some with some mayonnaise to create a dip with biscuits. Other than being a little too wet it all tasted good. Would I buy this brand again.... probably not and that's only because I know more about the fishing of tuna and the affects on the environment and on the humans that crew these boats. I understand fish is a huge source of protein for many and for others tinned products may be the only source of seafood. Still.... I encourage where possible, buy locally caught, Australian caught products and ask the retailer... where did this come from? And if you can, What was the name of the Vessel? Any bad vessels will turn up on an IUU (illegal, unreported, unregulated) vessel list. IUU lists don't get the sneaky folks who alter catch logs but it's start if you ever want to do your own research.

Mixed reviews! I did not enjoy the taste. It tasted to much like lemon and I hardly got any pepper. The content was too waterry for me and after one teaspoon I had enough. My teenager initially really liked it. The portion size was good. Being very active, he liked the fact that he could enjoy some extra protein straight from the tin. He did however state that the product had a weird aftertaste that spoilt it for him. I liked a number of the other flavoured tuna but this one is a no from us.

Tuna gone for a swim. Opened the can and noticed a pleasant lemon scent, then looked inside the can and saw a lot of fluid and thought the tuna went for a swim. I guess they went overboard with the lemon juice, which would explain all the liquid and strong lemon scent. Due to all the liquid, after draining it, I decided to make a tuna and salad sandwich, which enabled the liquid to act like a salad dressing. Unfortunately, I could hardly taste the pepper ( which is a must-have with tuna )The previous tuna bunch gave me to sample had LESS liquid and MORE tuna meaning the weight in the "Lemon Pepper" tuna would be made up more of liquid than tuna, therefore I would NOT buy this one, however, I would buy my previous tuna sampleThe "Lemon Pepper" needs less liquid and ... MoreTuna gone for a swim. Pass from me! Bought this yesterday for the first and the last time. 90 cents a bargain. Lemon and pepper flavour is quite nicely balanced. Way too much liquid. Has mushy appearance which I found unpleasant. Colour is unappealing. Sorry Woolies I have to say Coles brand beats yours hands down. Disappointing.

So much liquid... was expecting a live tuna. I thought I would never stop draining. Excessive amount of liquid in this product. Enough to sustain an adult tuna I suspect. Product was fairly mushy, but has a strong lemon flavour and slight pepper taste. Price point is very good, but I think I will wait for a brand to go on special or get the one from Coles.
