Farmed responsibly. It looks promising on the package, ā€˜farmed responsibly’, high protein, no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, and 3. 5 health star rating. They are reasonably priced, at less than $2 a package. The mussels are very small, but full of flavour, a mild smoky taste. There are few ingredients, another positive. As a product of China, the package states that they are cultivated in the Yellow Sea via raft culture. I was concerned about the purity of the water, this is probably less of an issue in the ocean, but you just don’t know. Terrible. I bought two packets of these to use on anti pasta platters as we were having a lot of guests. I opened the first can and was disappointed in the size firstly as they were very small, I decided to try one before I put them on the platters and just about broke my teeth. There were bits of shell in them. I spat it out and threw out both packets. Not game to try more and also wanting to protest my guests. Yes they are cheap but definitely not worth it. Made in China too. Quality control missing badly. I would never buy these again. I did report to the Woolworths complaint line, which I might say took ages to get through to and it was quite hard to find the relevant phone number.

Not The Best. These were located with all the tinned fish. Hidden on the top shelf. The packaging was appealing with Bold white writing of the product and how it is ASC certified (farmed responsibly). When I received this sample, I knew this one was perfect for my parents as they have tried a lot of smoked mussels from different brands and also I don't like them, so definitely wasn't going to try. The tin had a pull ring which was a little difficult to open for me so can imagine for elderly people. The smell, exactly what smoked mussels should smell like but they were all crammed in and very small. I care for my parents so I was present when they sampled these and the first thing my mum said was they were ok but a little too soft and mushy. After having a couple, ...Ā MoreNot The Best. Sorry but this is a big NO for me. Im starting this of by saying I dont eat tinned seafood (not tinned tuna or salmon for me) so I was a little surprised when I received this bunch sample. As I knew I wouldn't be eating it I gave the mussels to a family member to try so it would get a more educated and unbiased review. Their response was stick to the fresh stuff, might be more expensive but it tastes so much better than these. They said they were small and grainy with a weird aftertaste that was off putting so they didnt want to eat more than a few. I know it says something about being farmed responsibly on the front but unless I had more information about how they are accredited etc then I wouldnt trust that they were farmed humanely and sustainably. Interesting and odd, but really nice in a soup. FIRST THOUGHT: I was intrigued by these and kind of interested to try them as I wouldn't ordinarily buy them. I'm not a huge tinned tuna fan and the only tinned fish I really eat is smoked trout or fancy European anchovies as they're not mashed into cat food. Apart from that I've been keen to try European style tinned seafood as it seems to be great quality. This product reminded me of that. Because I wasn't sure about the quality I decided to buy a second tin and add these to a seafood chowder to use up celery and potatoes. Quality: The taste it quite nice, but the texture is a bit off putting, that said if you add it to a soup or chowder with other ingredients it's really not a big deal. Quality: The taste it quite nice, but the texture is a bit off putting, that said if you add it to a soup or chowder with other ingredients it's really not a big deal. Serving suggestions: If you don't mind the texture (like a bit of squishy soggy rubber) you could probably eat these on crackers or toast. My partner and I weren't so used to it, but added to a seafood chowder we wolfed down 2 tins in 2 days and thoroughly enjoyed them! You can add the oil to your cooking for extra flavour. I cooked onion and garlic in the mussel oil from the tin and then added diced celery, potato and stock. Once the veg was softened i mashed the potato a bit to thicken and stirred the smoked mussels through to warm. Serve with crusty bread, a dash of olive oil and a bit of dill or parsley if you have any. These are a great seafood item to have on hand in a pinch. Especially if you usually don't like tinned seafood, it's great in chowder!

Not nice. I was not looking forward to trying these. I love mussels in brine and fresh, but for some reason, the thought of eating these was doing my head in. I finally got up the nerve to open the can, and can say that I was not feeling any better about trying them at all. They were tiny little things curled up in oil. Not like any mussels I have previously eaten. I put one into my mouth, and it did not get any better. I don't even know what to say about the texture of them, and the taste was really offputting. I did not eat more than one, and even that was a struggle. Not a fan of the aftertaste either. I gave them to my husband to try, as he loves it when I share my Bunch tasters with him. Oh, and they are made in China, so that is a big negative for me too. I like to think that we are supporting our local producers.

Mussels. This can of smoked mussels made in China costs $1. 70 It has a pull ring and was easy to open without spilling stinky oil Mr D who won't touch tinned mussels with a ten foot pole was away so I thought now's my chance to finally use my sample I decided to use them to make my garlic and chilli prawns in olive oil except this time using mussels instead of prawns I tried one and it was very smokey but also soft I thought for sure they would disintegrate in my pan I didn't like the flavour of the one I tried before heating. I found it had a funny taste that I can't really describe. Not like there was anything that was going to make me sick just not enjoyable Using my wooden spoon carefully to stir, they held their shape and it smelt quite yummy with the chilli ...Ā MoreMussels. Even being beside the sea side didn’t make these better. I’ve had this sample sat in my pantry for a few week just waiting for the perfect time to sample them. A weekend away at the beach with family seemed like the right time to bring them along and give them a try. First thoughts - these are not the type of sample I’d usually want to sample actually. I’m not a fan of tinned mussels. The tin was easy to open with the ring pull and there was quite a bit of oil coating them and they did have a strong Smokey smell. After a glass of bubbles I worked up the courage to try one. The texture wasn’t nice. They were kind of mushy to eat, even though they didn’t look like they would be. To sum up, even eating them by the seaside couldn’t save them.

Mushy and Quite Bland. These Smoked Mussels were quite bland and didn't have any smokey flavour. They are mushy, soft and have an unpleasant aftertaste. Obviously there is no comparison to the fresh ones but I expected them to be better than this. Product of China. Why can't these be sourced locally? I wouldn't mind paying extra for a more quality Australian product. Contains no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. At least all ingredients are natural and nice to see that sunflower oil is used instead of palm oil. Also has a health star rating of 3. 5 which is pretty good.
