WORKSHARP Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener with Tri-Brasive

I researched knife sharpeners for quite a bit before choosing this one. Overall, I am quite pleased with this choice. The apparatus the holds the knife etc., nearly makes this idiot-proof but you still need to have some patience. My old Chef's Choice powered knife sharpener was much faster, but the sharpness using this tool was ultimately much better. It was able to sharpen both the smallest pairing knives to a large chef knife with no problems. I tried to sharpen a machete with no success. The blade was both too thick and too heavy for the stand. I'd buy this again, in fact, I might buy the accessory pack for serrated knives since the basic package doesn't come with the rounded sharpening stone.

Great for honing blade edges that already have a definite angle. I'd made some knifes and had hoped to set an edge angle to them. The worksharp would do it eventually but it would take a few days. So I had to grind the edge to sharpish and then hone it using the worksharp which got it to be a very keen edge. I would still recommend this for knife sharpening just have to be patient and the knife must be at the most dull to achieve a quick dull to sharp result.

This thing is great. Easy to put together and use, just as easy to take apart and put away when you're done. The stones are of decent quality, but at only sixty bucks I wasn't expecting anything top shelf. I've sharpened everything from pocket knives to hunting knives to kitchen knives and never had a problem getting a shaving-sharp edge. For really small blades you'll have to take the stones off the guide bar and sharpen free-hand. My only complaint is that while worksharp insists the stones are replaceable, nowhere I've seen on the packaging or in the instructions does it tell you how to do so. Not a problem for now, but eventually they'll need replacing and it would be nice if I didn't have to fumble my way through it when the time comes.

I bought this Sharpener to replace my Lansky System. After watching the U-Tube video and not even reading the directions, I put it together and had my Folding Buck Hunter sharp enough to shave hair off my arm in about 5 minutes. Very well thought out and it works great. If you can't get your knives razor sharp with this tool, Trust me, YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING WRONG !!
Like other sharpeners of its kind (KME, Lansky, etc.) it allows even a novice to crank out a razor sharp edge in just a few minutes (on most steels). The basic model covers a wide enough range of abrasives in just 3 "stones" to go from redefining an edge angle all the up to honing. Hair popping results on all of my knives so far. The provided instructions are pretty good as well. However, its value is what makes it a 5 star product. Unlike most of its kind, it's affordable. Lansky is a good competitor, but the WS has features like infinite adjustment and, although mostly plastic, a much more solid build quality.Regarding the upgrade kit. I don't like the abrasive selection. except for the strop, it's more of the same of what the standard kit provides. I don't need extra grits between what the basic model provides except for a finer stone between the "fine" diamond and the ceramic hone. Why not give us a better progression of finer grits instead of the progression of coarse grits? We don't need all those coarse grits. Some ultra fine grits to allow us to put a refined or even a mirror edge on our knives would be a better upgrade.I'll wait for additional grits to come out or make my own. it's easy to drill out a block of wood to fit the rod. Add some automotive sandpaper with a little spray adhesive and you are in business. Mirror edge here I come.Best
Super easy to use, and it works great. Unless your knives are very large, or very small, this tool has you covered. It's so easy I gave it to my nephew to sharpen his own knife for the first time, and he had that club back to being a knife in no time. (the chips are another story, but those will disappear over time)
They spent the money where it mattered and skimped where it didn't. I use my left hand to steady it and my right to sharpen my knives and it works great. It flexes a little if you use too much force, but you'll break anything you push harder than required on. It's not going to replace a $300 system that a Bladesmith would need, but it's going to be great to occasionally sharpen my kitchen knives or a pocket knife. Very easy to use, and isn't going to take up a lot of space to store for the vast majority of time I have it.
The plastic body should have been made out of aluminum. Smaller pieces have started to break off. Somethjng else to consider is that the blade width will make the angle change. A blade bevel may be 20° but because it's a wider/narrower blade it may be 15° or 25° On the work sharp precision adjust. Thin blades like the leatherman supertool/wingman (just examples of ones I own) do not work in this because the abrasive surface rubs against the clamp and not the blade. Great product in theory. Great product for some certain knife. Not an all around knife sharpener. Buy a different product.
I purchased this unit a few weeks ago and I am very impressed with it. It holds the blade really rigid. Smaller blades can be held pretty darn good also. The clamping system holds tight. The magnetic blade clamp holds very good, no wiggle. The diamond insert cuts fast and the ceramic works real well finishing. I still use a piece of leather for stropping to get razor sharp.
There are three good budget "guided" knife sharpening systems on the market: Spyderco Sharpmaker, Lansky and this Worksharp Precision Adjust. The other two also achieve excellent results, but I think the Worksharp Precision Adjust has leapfrogged them - which makes sense as it's like 30 years newer. For one thing, unlike the Spyderco, the Worksharp has adjustable angles. That way you can easily copy the factory edge - or reprofile. Lanksy does that too, but I find the Worksharp easier to use.Duplicating the existing angle reduces how much material you need to remove. To be fair, most knives end up being around 20 degrees anyway, but kitchen knives can be more acute, utility knives more obtuse. The Elite version is worth it, especially of you have a lot of knives ... E.g. there are attachments for chisels & scissors, for very small or extra large blades, to allow the use of aftermarket stones in different materials and sizes, etc.The point being that it's already very good, but there's a ton of options if you want to push the limits. The one downside to the system - and this applies to many guides systems - is that it's slow. Not a big deal if sharpening is a hobby, but I can foresee a complaint if you plan to sit down for an afternoon and sharpen a dozen knives. The Elite model helps because it has a wider range of diamond abrasives.I don't think there's a better sharpening system for under $150 - and if you spent the difference between that and the Worksharp's retail price, you can get results to match significantly more expensive sharpening systems.
