I purchased the Work Sharp mainly because i have a large knife and multitool collection in need of regular sharpening and maintenance. The bulk of my collection is high end relatively expensive items that i really dont want to use a cheap stone sharpener with. The Worksharp has a slight learning curve, not much, just get the feel for the tool. I like the relative ease with which it reshapes the blade with the coarse grit belt. Then use the intermediate grit, 220, it shapes and rough sharpens. The 6000 grit belt will put a razor sharp shaving edge on almost anything. What i like best is the speed at which it does it. I reshaped and sharpened chipped dull abused blades from cant cut butter to shaving in under 3 minutes. Very consistent edge, very clean, it looks ... The only negative thing about the tool is the belt tensioner arrangement, it does lock down but be careful or the spring loaded will launch like a rocket under spring tension, also be sure to test run the belt before putting the guide on to insure the belt is centered or it will ruin the belt. You may need to tweak the tensioner a bit to insure straight belt. I highly recommend this tool, just had a "redneck weekend" and i toted this thing along. all were impressed, and yes they left with razor sharp knives, i was nice like that. They will be buying one, they already said. Its not the cheapest tool in the shed, But the cost is far outweighed by the near immediate results. Another good thing is it removes a minimum of material to achieve maximum sharpness.

There is a lot of info and tips. After unpacking I read the Manuel front to back and went thru the adjustments and changing belts and getting familiar with it. With proper use and care I believe it will last many years.

After watching the videos on the Work Sharp web sight to familiarize myself with what to expect I set the unit up as instructed and got busy with my worst kitchen knives, now these are the ones you seldom use but keep in the back of the knife drawer. I went slow at first and after making two to three passes per edge I could see and feel a remarkable difference. I did all the knives with the medium grit belt and saved the final fine edge sharpening for last. After changing the belt to the finest grit I proceeded to put the finish on all the blades. I've wanted of these for awhile and I finally pulled the trigger last month. Our knives have never been sharper. That said, I recommend you start with some older, less valuable blades while you conquer the learning curve. If you get carried away with this unit, you can reshape or damage some blades. Read the instructions. Light touch. And, keep the blade moving. If you tarry too long in one position, you can inadvertently carve a 'notch' in your blade. (Wife unhappy!) Once you've got it down, move on to your prized kitchen cutlery. (Wife very happy!) Finished knives are VERY sharp. Be careful!

So out comes the new sharpener; Old Armorplate is unsheathed, and about 20 licks later with the medium and fine grit...and I'm shaving. Slickly slicing paper. Whahoo! So: the belts look deceptively too-small-to-be-serious-as-a-tool but actually the diminutive size allows one to avoid eating too much of the blade with each sharpening. The "On-off" routine is easy with the trigger style switch. I had no problem sharpening my Gerber tool--about my smallest blade. And yes, I went on a sharpening binge, which lasted until my wife saw me grab the cat and examine her claws while carrying the machine..... Downsides--I remain skeptical that it's got enough oomph for sharpening larger tools--back in the day many a shovel or Pulaski as touched up with an 8" angle grinder. We'll see. But for keeping your daily slicers and hunting hackers in fine fettle...this IS the machine. Very pleased!,
