Bought today returning tomorrow. Got it all hooked up and heard cracking in left speaker. Checked wiring it was good, took the speaker wire out of A and put in left B. Still cracking and not a lot of volume. First thought was a bad speaker which I also purchased today. klipsch is the way to go for quality sound. Moved the left speaker to the right B and beautiful sound came out of that speaker. It’s sad that Yamaha doesn’t put pride in all their models. I only purchased this unit for albums. I bought the higher end 2 ch that was offered at Best Buy, guess I should’ve bought the cheaper Sony model.

Pretty good sounding unit for the money. For CD I run through an equalizer. Which I can make up for the lousy speak placement. The Bass and Treble works well, but could have a mid-range which would help out. Running 4 speakers and the unit has no problem powering them, and has plenty of sound. Don't lose the remote, it comes in handy for other settings. FM receiver is pretty good too! Better then my last stereo. Bluetooth fires right up, no problem connecting to S21.I don't have any grips with the unit, Simple to use, just enough buttons to make the 'look' simple and easy to look at. I wonder if I will get 50 years out of it as that is how long the last receiver lasted. Ha!Why I went with Yamaha receiver is because I have had good luck with Yamaha products.

I just bought this unit yesterday. It sounds great, the build quality is nice also. What surprised me, is the Best Buy associates knew very little about this device. I asked whether I could run a subwoofer off of it and I got a lot of detail about why I could not do so. That was all wrong! It runs great, I take it out of channel a to the Bose acoustic mass and then run the satellite units off that subwoofer. It is a passive subwoofer the sound is spectacular. Sure, the satellite speakers are a little bit tiny and lack mid range. However I could also have a run B channel into a powered sub and again there was massive debate with the Best Buy associate who kept saying it would not work. His reasoning was unclear and faulty in my opinion. I have done this with an old ... MoreI just bought this unit yesterday. It sounds great, the build quality is nice also. I haven’t been using this stereo receiver very long but I it seems to work for my needs. It allows me to hook up a variety of equipment which includes my computer. I’m not exactly sure what controls sound output but, the volume is not as strong as I would have liked. I have to set the volume setting anywhere from 50 to 70 to get enough volume, and that is not a blasting sound. The max volume setting is 99. I am using 8 ohm speakers as recommended, so I’m not sure why the volume it lacking. The Bluetooth connection is great! I love having that convenience for streaming music. I also like that most of the main controls are on the front, so I don’t need to be dependent on the remote. The item was well packed and survived shipping without any damage; good job Yamaha.
I have owned this unit now for more than 3 years. I really like it, overall. The power is clean and strong. Most amplifiers tend to over-exaggerate their power ratings and efficiency. But, I have found this unit to power various speakers, flawlessly.I like the remote. This remote has most everything on it that is on the face of the unit. It has balance controls, EQ controls, and easily switches channels with no pop or residual noise from various inputs. This is one of the BEST remotes I have ever owned for a receiver. But, here's the problem. I have had many problems with the Bluetooth on this unit. I have followed the directions perfectly. Yet, it will often not disconnect from a previous BT controller. And, it will not find most devices I try to connect to it. ... MoreI have owned this unit now for more than 3 years. Yet, it will often not disconnect from a previous BT controller. And, it will not find most devices I try to connect to it. The blue light blinks. All of the proper buttons have been pushed. However, the Bluetooth on my unit appears to be faulty.Since this has been the only problem with it, I never sent it back in for an exchange. I have looked online for additional support and answers, which has led me to believe that my unit is faulty, and it is not User Error. So, if you want flawless Bluetooth connections that connect easily with the multitude of manufacturers out there, you definitely might want to check this unit upon receipt to find out if it has a similar problems as my unit.Otherwise, I am quite pleased with this Receiver. I have been a fan and a consumer of Yamaha Products for over 30 years. Most often, no problems and very nice gear.
Decent enough for the price I suppose, but lacking some features. As other reviewers point out, it does have 3 inputs, but has no AC outlets (even the much less expensive Dayton APA-100 we have has an AC outlet), so it's a little clunky to use in a cabinet (I still have a blue-ray and so on that I'd like to have on a switched outlet to save power). The lack of AC outlets can be handled by getting a smart power strip, but suddenly your bargain becomes less of a bargain. My biggest annoyance in day to day use is not having a loudness button for using it for background music for when you want to have something on at a lower volume.Speaking of volume, the volume control ergonomics are a little strange, you have to crank it to 50 (it goes from 0 to 99) for even ... MoreDecent enough for the price I suppose, but lacking some features. This Yamaha receiver performs very well with sound quality through external and headphone audio. This suits me well because all I wanted was a nice-sounding quality stereo receiver to do simple functions, something that I didn't get when I bought the Sony receiver that I had returned previously because it did not perform well at all with its poor sound quality and function. The remote takes getting used to because of the tiny buttons, making it difficult, if you have poor vision, to navigate the keys. Other than that for the price, general sound quality and function that I needed, it performs very well.
I bought this specifically for the purpose of playing my old Cerwin Vega LS-12 floor speakers from college. I've brought them with me for the last 20+ years and finally I have a room big enough to justify running them.I'm pleased to report they still get just as loud as I remember, and this receiver is why. It puts out plenty of clean power - they sound great! The Bluetooth is super-simple so you just control everything on your phone/tablet. I even use one of the inputs with my ipod via a simple RCA 2 into 1 adapter. I can play my entire digital music catalogue simply and easily. So this receiver was perfect for me and this application. I just needed a simple 2-channel receiver and this fit the bill perfectly.
This amp gives me beautiful, unstrained sound. The soundstage is impeccable.I'm running this with a pair of Klipsch R-51M speakers and an old pair of Polk Audio RT25I speakers. This borders on lower impedance than recommended for this amp. I've cranked it to levels plenty high for my old ears, and have noticed no overheating. As noted by other reviewers, this unit has no phono preamp. I bought a Rolls VP29 phono preamp ($59), and I'm hearing what these gunfire-and-arena rock-seasoned ears consider audiophile phono sound. It's also worth noting that there is no subwoofer output on this unit. A speaker-to-line level converter that cost $20, and an RCA Y converter allows me to run my subwoofer in tandem with my A channel speakers. This configuration puts no ... MoreThis amp gives me beautiful, unstrained sound.
