So, I’m going to prefix this by saying that i LOVE the dna of the original black opium. I’ve loved almost all of the versions of black opium ysl has released, with my favourites being le parfum, and over red. I also am always looking for a creamy marshmallow note in a fragrance, so I was suuuper excited when this one was released. If you’re thinking this is going to resemble black opium fundamentally with just a musky, marshmallow twist, you’re with me and unfortunately we’re both wrong. It’s almost as if the notes don’t go together quite as harmoniously as the original. I wore this all day and gave it a full shot, even though I wasn’t impressed at first sniff. I will say the longevity is definitely there, 8 hours + of wear, but to me after a while the dry down was almost synthetically sweet, with just a hint of coffee beans, and it was overpowered by musk. All to say I will definitely be returning, and I wouldn’t consider this a safe blind buy if you love the other black opiums. For reference, some of my favourite fragrances to date are princess by killian, hypnotic poison by dior, tabacco vanille by tom ford, milk by commodity, and hot cotoure by givenchy.
