I have had little opportunity to use the lens so far, but I think it is an excellent lens. It produces a sharp image and the amount of distortion is not noticeable; a test on a lab bench would be required to reveal the distortion. The Zeiss Milvus 1.4/25, 1/4/35, 1.4/50, 1.4/85 are new optical designs; I have a these four lenses and a Nikon D810. The combination is as good as it gets.

After renting this lens over Christmas, I could not get it out of my head. The rendering and colors were unlike anything else in my camera bag. It was also my first foray into manual focus glass; something I am still practicing.Seeing the quality and condition of the rental lens gave me the confidence to order a gently used copy. I am happy to report that the lens that I received is in immaculate shape, and includes all of the original packaging. I would not hesitate to order again from lensrental!

The lens I received was double packed in styrofoam, in a small lens case, within a pelican case. The lens was perfectly clear and showed little, if any signs of wear. The photos I took with it were unbelievably sharp and everything I've come to expect from Zeiss. I liked the lens so much I ended up purchasing it outright.
Superb color rendition, sharpness, build quality... it is all there. It is always on my camera and with Nikon Z6 it is really easy to manually focus.
I thought that the Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 was good, but this lens is exceptional: crisp, colourful and precise. Yes, it's heavy, expensive and manual focus - but it is a delight to use. It is marvellous at melding foreground detail with its place in the landscape.
One of the best medium wide angle lenses on the market. A bit heavy but on a tripod you can’t beat it.
Reviews, especially the review at diglloyd.com rate this lens as exceptionally good. The MTF curves suggest performance nearly as good as the 55mm Otis and superior to all other Zeiss 35mm F mounts. My personal experience confirms this: resolution, acutance, and color rendition are about as good as it gets. Resolution and acutance are better than my 35mm f/2.0 Zeiss and my 50mm f/1.4 Milvus; color rendition is about the same The lack of auto focus is not an issue for me for most of my photography. Ordinarily I use 21mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 135mm Zeiss glass. When auto focus is an issue, I use a Nikon 24-70 G 2.8/f or a 70-200 G 4.0/f. The price one pays in loss of resolution, acutance, and color rendition for the convenience of autofocus and zoom is substantial. First Lensrentals is excellent. I depend on them, and they deliver. The Milvus 25 is an exceptional lens. I have had a number of 24 -25mm lenses, and this is the best-especially for high res sensors. Very sharp, highly detailed, even into the corners. Color is truly stunning )and despite what some claim-can't be recreated with lightroom or photoshop)., medium and fine contrast, CA and flare/ghosting control are the best I have seen.Extremely easy to focus, even in sunshine. Heavy? yep. But I carry 5 Milvus lenses on my backpack-I'm 65 with many feet, knee, back, neck injuries and or surgeries. Because of the image quality. I now own this lens.
Surprising amount of distortion, and also QUITE heavy vignetting wide open. For something so large/ heavy and expensive, not to mention the Zeiss pedigree, I expected better. Otherwise, fantastic resolution and clarity from f/1.4 through f/11. Not sure I would rent again at this cost though.
