Best Buy... to the rescue !!!!

My original board suddenly stopped working. I was in the middle of finishing a financial analysis report for work. I was in a panic ... as it had to be completed in less than 3 hours. I drove to Best Buy, not even worried about not finding what I needed. It is my " go to " place for so many items. I purchased this one ( must be popular....there were only 2 left ). Drove back home as fast as I could. There was absolutely no drama at all !! Connection to the monitor was so easy !!! I was able to finish my report with 25 minutes to spare !!!

Defective Touch ID?

In general a good compact keyboard, the keys feel pretty much like the MacBook Pro I'm using it with. No connectivity issues so far, which is a win right there. But the Touch ID works to unlock the MacBook maybe 30% of the time. There's no error message or feedback of any kind, just unresponsive. Not sure if it's just a half-baked feature or if mine is defective. But I paid more for the feature, soooooo.

You HAVE to have an Apple Silicon Mac for this to work properly. So the older intel models I've heard do not work.I have a 14" MacBook Pro M1 and this works great. I saw a review in these reviews that said it doesn't work with Chrome and other things. For me this works exactly like Touch ID on the laptop itself. I can login, use Touch ID to open passwords, autofill on Safari and auto fill on Chrome, etc.I still think they're charging too much for this, but it's Apple and it's the only keyboard that has Touch ID, which I find very convenient.

Expensive... but great keyboard
22 December 2021

It's a great keyboard but kind of hard to justify the price. The ONLY reason you would want/need to get this is if you use it with the latest M-chip variant Mac's. If you use Intel, get the non-touchID because:1. touchID on keyboard will not work on Intel2. non-touchID is cheaperHonestly, it's so convenient using the touchID on my MBP for all security authentication, so bringing this to my Mac Mini M1 was a big improvement to just typing in the password. In short, I paid the extra premium of a keyboard just to have touchID. By no means is this the best keyboard to type on or is it the smallest footprint. There are far better typing experience keyboards and ones that are just as small form-factor. With that said, this keyboard is not bad at all when it comes to ... MoreIt's a great keyboard but kind of hard to justify the price. It feels a little flat and the key cap surface is so smooth that it's hard for my fingers to find it's starting place.Get this keyboard if you want/need the touchID or if you're just an Apple must-have-er. If you're looking for a great typing experience in a small form factor, you could find better for cheaper.

Having Touch ID at my Desktop is Great
25 October 2021

The keyboard is a fairly typical Apple Keyboard, wireless, bluetooth connection using a lightning interface for recharging. It appears the touchID only works when the keyboard is physically wired to the machine, but I have not tested this extensively, but I think this is correct. I run an M1 Mac mini and being able to add Apple Pay and TouchID to this machine is really fantastic. The travel on the he keys is slightly abrupt. Meaning I also use a Corsair K95 RGP. Platinum XT and switch back and forth between these two keyboards depending on what I'm doing. The travel distance difference between the two can be a bit rough when you switch back and forth. However the Apple Keyboard is so quite that I can use it when on Zoom calls without disrupting everybody on the call ... MoreThe keyboard is a fairly typical Apple Keyboard, wireless, bluetooth connection using a lightning interface for recharging. Phenomenal Apple Keyboard
12 November 2021

Easy to set up and use. Instantly starts working because it connects right away and lets you know on screen it is connected. Also shows connection & battery percentage at the top.Built-in Touch ID does work great. *But it has some moments it would rather be pressed in rather than lightly “tapped” but I think that’s a software issue rather than issue with keyboard itself.Battery life is phenomenal. I haven’t had to charge it yet, I’ve had it a little over a month with constant daily college student use.Comfortable to type on and use for hours at a time. I have to type up a lot of papers and I don’t find my fingers or wrist cramping at all. I don’t use any wrist pads or anything like that.

Solid Keyboard

As a wireless keyboard for a Mac Mini, or any Mac for that matter, this is a seamless device. Plug the USB cable into the Mac Mini, and it pairs automatically, couldn't be easier. On a desktop, this thing is good. It is super thin and has a tiny amount of slope, not really enough for wrist comfort. Slightly bigger than a 13 inch Mac laptop, it just works. On your knees, not as easy to use. Functional, but not perfection. A larger keyboard like a Logitech works better for lap use.Touch ID works perfectly, just like on a Mac laptop. Battery life is solid. The real downside to this - if it had a touch pad (I call them scratchy pads) to the right - the thing would be the perfect size for lap use. There are MUCH better alternatives
22 September 2022

I purchased an Apple Magic keyboard and Magic Touchpad shortly after getting my new M1 Mac mini computer. I work from home and use my computer daily, so I do a lot of typing Monday through Friday. I am offering these pictures as proof of what you can expect your keys to look like after a year or two of daily use. I brought this problem before Apple Support and they suggested I bring the keyboard into my local Apple store. Even though the keyboard was (at that time) less than one year old, it's not covered the same as their computers. Since it was purchased separately, it's considered an accessory and isn't warrantied the same way.For a more capable and likely longer lasting alternative, I can recommend the Logitech MX Keys Mini Bluetooth keyboard. Not only can that device link up to 3 devices, it has backlit keys, a mute key for your microphone, a screenshot key, charges with USB-C, and types better than the Apple Magic keyboard. The Apple keyboard makes a slapping sound while the Logitech makes a more pleasant and muted "thunk" sound when typing. The Logitech MX Keys Mini comes in black or white and has a 10-key option as well for just a few dollars more, but I prefer the Mini arrangement as a desktop space saving alternative.

Touch ID does not work as advertised
16 December 2022

Buyer beware. Sleek and sexy, but know after an hour with Apple customer service, the Touch ID does NOT work with anything other than apple apps or software. I have the top Mac M1 Max and the Apple Studio Display but still, it will NOT work with Google Chrome browsers. It will NOT work for the password to start up your computer. You can NOT use it for any other browsers other than Safari, and even then it will only work in some instances. If you are buying this, as I did, for the Touch ID feature, just know the instances where it does not work vastly outweighs the instances it may and didn't make it worth buying for my use.

Will NOT let you login to your MAC
21 June 2022

This device was to replace my old magic keyboard for my old MacMini. I recently purchased a newer M1 mac mini and I thought it would be great to have a fingerprint reader like I use for my WindowsPC.To my chagrin, This device will NOT allow you to login to your MAC from a cold boot. It will NOT even allow you to log back in after logging out. Apple Help says this is not a design flaw but done on purpose "for security reasons".W H Y ? ? ?I am an IT Admin and IT security expert. Please educate me on these security reasons.Windows, Linux, Android do not seem to have this shortcoming. For the price of this keyboard it should also do device switching and make me a dang coffee!
