It docks easily with the my Dell Precision laptop. while the cord is a bit short from the docking station to the laptop, its manageable. BitLocker can't be suspended automatically, so there's no way to automatically keep the firmware up-to-date. So, what essentially happen is... computer installs Windows feature update, Thunderbolt driver attempts to install, Thunderbolt driver can't install because firmware hasn't been updated because even Dell Command Update can't update firmware automatically because of BitLocker. What you end up with is Windows being up-to-date, the drivers being out-of-date, the end-user having issues with their dock, and uninformed service desk personnel wanting to replace the dock because that seems like the easiest way to resolve the problem. Then, end-users come here and post reviews complaining about their docks. It's not the docks... Intel needs to resolve this updating issues so that everything can be gracefully updated through Windows Update as part of Windows 10 Feature Upgrades... until then, end-users will continue to suffer.

This dock has really cleaned up my desk area. Before the dock I had cables of all types coming out of my laptop; it looked trashy and it was an ordeal to remove them all whenever I needed to bring my laptop out of the house. It's very convenient to just be able to plug 1 cable into my laptop once I have returned and have all of my devices instantly work. I have my speakers, my keyboard, printer, an external hard drive, a 4K monitor, and wireless mouse plugged into the dock currently. One of the USB ports is a Power Share port so I use this to charge my phone. Performance-wise, it's been terrific, I have had no issues at all with it or noticed any input lag. I thought that was pretty nifty. It feels pretty solid and well made. It's a great dock, I like it a lot. I can easily see it being an extremely useful took in a business setup.

That was never the case with the older style docking station.(2) The TB16 requires a 240W power brick and the M7510 requires a separate 180W power brick! With the TB16 I have to disconnect the independent power supply, disconnect the USB C connection to the TB16 and disconnect two other devices because there are insufficient ports in the right position. Again, an example of very poor design.(5) Instead of having less desk clutter (as shown in the pretty advertising images) I have more than I had when I used the old docking station.(6) I still have to keep my old docking station because I have an M4800 notebook workstation as a back up in case the M7510 fails.(7) I do not know what is inside the TB16 but it struck me as expensive.

I'm not sure why but this turned the internal fan on and after about 1 minute of the fan running nonstop i just disconnected the power again and reconnected it and connected the dock to my laptop and it worked. I'm not sure what I did and why it worked but it did something.Overall this product is extremely unstable.
I replaced my TB15 docking station (worked great!) with the TB16 so I could get full 2560x1440 resolution from my two Dell monitors. It's connected to a Dell Precision 5510. I made sure to upgrade all firmware/BIOS on the 5510 per TB16 instructions. I've had a host of problems since I started using the T16 a month ago:1. You can't just plug in a USB device and have it work - you have to power down the laptop, plug in the device, then power up.2. My printers disappear! Can successfully drive two high res Samsung UE590 4K displays along with a 4K laptop(Dell 5520), but sometimes have to bring monitors up one at a time, especially after docking and undocking. Power sequencing both on startup and shutdown could also be an issue. Earlier reviews talk about the PowerShare USB 3.0 feature on the front port needing to be shut off. The TB16 has the most ports(2 DP, 1HDMI, 1 VGA w/several USB 2.0/3.0), but keep in mind potential problems.
I bought the TB16 three months ago when I purchased a Dell Latitude 7390. The laptop is amazing, but the TB16 is seriously a joke. It is not functional. It works the way it wants to work. I should have known better. The main reason I baught the Latitude 7390 is because I have a Latitude at work, and it rocks. Also, at work, I DON'T have a Dell docking station; I have a Targus docking station, and it works seemlessly.Honestly, steer clear of this product.
This docking station works as advertised. I have 2 monitors, a Mediasonic ProBox 8 Bay External Hard Drive Enclosure, and occasionally other USB 3 drives connected to it. The Mediasonic has large capacity drives in all 8 bays, so there is a lot of throughput. As others have pointed out, the docking station is not very well designed. The Thunderbolt 3 cable comes out of the left side and then connects to the left side on a Dell computer, which is senseless as it has to wrap around, taking up precious length. Its very awkward and should have been placed on the right side of the unit. (I found a workaround by using an Omoton stand for my laptop>) Much has been made about the shortness of the Thunderbolt 3 cable. This has to do with the bandwidth limitations of these ... This has to do with the bandwidth limitations of these cables, especially the first generation which seems to be in the TB 16. If the cable were longer it could not handle 40GB/s throughput. Newer third party cables at lengths of a meter or more are coming on the market, power assisted to attain the same throughput. I dont know if these work, but you cant try them out on the TB 16 because the Thunderbolt cable has a Dell proprietary connection inside the unit. You can remove it, but you could not attach any other kind of cable. In the next model Dell should move the Thunderbolt cable to the right side of the unit, and allow for a standard Thunderbolt 3 connection at both ends, so the user can upgrade the cable to a longer length when feasible.
