Recently I've tried re-formulated @diorbeauty backstage foundation and I have some thoughts. The colors are different from the original, I picked up 01 warm (used to be 0 warm in the old) and I think it's a perfect match I can't complain because I saw that picking the right shade online proofed to be difficult for some. The formula- I immediately noticed It is a huge difference. The old backstage foundation was thicker and with satin to matte finish when powdered and was very longlasting for my combo skin. The new formula reminds me a lot of mac face and body foundation but it's much more easy to blend it dosen't dragg your skin when you apply it. The finish is quite dewy very natural and minimal makeup. I know the old version had alcohol high on the list of the ingridients which wasn't ideal. The new one as it is marketed is clean beauty. I do feel my skin is more soft after wearing the foundation so it's a big plus. Paired with backstage primer I notice a little less shine but it dosen't control oils whatsoever so I might try to wear this foundation with something more mattyfing. I wish Dior would make a matte version of this because I have combo skin and it's too dewy for me can't imagine somone with very oily skin wear it without looking like a grease ball. I will continue to use it and try it with different techniques to make it last longer.

In order to test whether the foundation would further oxidize, I swatched the foundation every 20 minutes for two hours (left to right) and then put one final swatch immediately before taking a photo to track the oxidation over time versus fresh. The finish gives a really healthy glow to skin and applies beautifully over dry skin and skin with an orange peel texture. It does not sink into pores or highlight imperfections which is really nice. I applied this foundation alone (without primer or finishing spray/powder) and found that it stayed really well against rubbing or splashing water on it. There was minor transfer with rubbing but it did not affect the look of the foundation on my skin. I would recommend this foundation but I would recommend swatching first so you can adjust for oxidation.

I’m not used to “thin”, watery foundation, but made it “work”. About 2 hours later, I could see where my skin tends to get red (usually in the winter) peek through the foundation. I don’t have sensitive skin, nor do I have rosacea, but the area around my nose and sides of my upper lip tend to get pink in colder months. The formula “settled” too, even though I applied primer before and powder after this foundation. If you have near perfect skin and need something that evens you out/preps skin for color/conturing products, this will likely work well for you! It definitely seems to give a more “natural” look, as one “layer” or application without going back over with more product allows your skin to still show through (ie natural).

The Dior has equalled, if not outperformed the Bobbi Brown, but I would like to do a side-by-side comparison at some point. I found the Dior Backstage Face and Body really responsive to different SPF formulas I wore underneath it. On Day 1 I wore La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-in Milk, Day 2 I wore Supergoop Unseen, and on Day 3 I wore Supergoop Glow screen. The foundation performed well over each, but I think on my skin type (dry to normal), it wore best over the glow screen. My skin feels soft and the makeup has definitely set, so I don’t worry about longevity, however I do feel a little tightness across my cheeks, so I could probably hydrate my skin a bit more to make up for the dry down of the foundation. What has impressed me most about the Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation is how natural it looks, how seamless is is after 8+ hours of wear (without primer or setting spray) and that it doesn’t crease or settle into fine lines. I prefer using my fingers to apply products and I have found that for this formula, I prefer either fingers or a dense foundation brush. I used the Saie base brush and loved how easily it blended out the foundation. From what I can tell, the formula is extremely flexible and the sign to me that it’s a winning formula is that it didn’t settle into the pores around my t-zone. I’m super impressed!

I wore it to a state fair the other week and it stayed on all throughout the day and evening; My blush & bronzer (Rose Inc. Cream Bronzer & Em Cosmetics Serum Blush) looked flawless on top and my entire base just looked like healthy skin, not heavy makeup!I also want to note that this particular Dior foundation/body makeup does not have a super strong perfumey scent to it like a lot of high end/luxury foundations tend to have which is bonus points in.I feel weird thanking a cosmetic company, but…THANK YOU, Dior, for having a foundation in your line that I actually enjoy wearing 🙏🏻
