Gerber Crucial Multi Tool (Green)
Over 70 years since its founding and Gerber continues to grow. Still grounded in the same principles that first guided Joseph R. Gerber’s “enterprise,” Gerber is a company dedicated to making knives and tools that combine high quality materials and innovative designs that will stand up to a lifetime of use. The sleek, stainless steel sheath knives of the ’50s and ’60s (the Magnum Hunter) have given birth to today’s lightweight, open-frame clip folders (the Remix). Gerber is, however, no longer just a knife company. Multi-tools, axes, handsaws, machetes, headlamps, flashlights, survival kits, digging implements - these are the newest directions that Gerber explores with the same standards of quality and design that inform their revered knife making. The Gerber Crucial Multi-Tool is a stylish and compact Multi-Tool packed with essential features like the Gerber Multi-Plier. Despite its compact, lightweight size, the Crucial Tool delivers big, full-function components. Featuring wire cutters, a flat head screw driver and a handy bottle opener, the Gerber Crucial Multi-Tool is great to have close to hand at all times.

This is my first Gerber product, although I have previously owned, loved, and lost a Leatherman Wave. I would recommend this as a useful pocket tool, but not for heavy duty or as a primary knife. It is light and compact, and I like the aesthetics. However, if you have large hands like I do, you may find the grip not entirely comfortable. The blade is sharp; whether you like the blade style depends on what you are looking for. The clip is functional, but I would not trust it to not fall off a belt. I could see it bending or snapping off. Mine is brown and silver, not green and silver, and the brown has already started to chip off from minor impacts. The bottle opener doubles as a mini-carabiner. This feature seems odd to me, and I won't use the carabiner ever. It ... It doesn't lock unless it's closed into the handle of the tool; as a lanyard fastening point, it ends up being right next to the extended blade, which is awkward. To its credit, the bottle opener/carabiner has a little picture of a wine bottle on it to remind you of your bacchanalian duties.

Apart from the great styling of the crucial is its mid sized and pretty light weight. Its neither too small or to bulky heavy like many fully sized multi-tools so is very handy and pocketable. Each tool is big enough for full size duty. The blade is easily one hand openable and locks very positively and is a great shape for the times to open packages which is most time used for or the odd cutting tasks. The belt clip is very snug to. It just has the right minimal tools you regularly need for those little odd job tasks. And the carabiner bottle opener regularly pops a beer. The one minor drawback I've found is the plier cutters only meet and not shear cut. Otherwise quality is really good with attention to detailed finish.

I have had one of these tools for almost three years and used it both on my boat and ashore. Initially I was very pleased. It is comfortable in the hand, not too heavy and it has a fairly good selection of tools although the star screwdriver blade is pretty useless. The price is good considering what you get. The blade sharpens up quite nicely. However it has not stood up very well. The tightening screws have backed off and the blade wiggles in the handle. The screws seem to have some sort of custom design so I have not been able to tighten them. The lock on the screwdriver blade has snapped off and so it closes when you don't want it to and it opens up in my pocket . The caribiner is poorly designed and I have almost lost the tool overboard several times because it ... I bought it 2 or 3 years ago. Lent it to my kids to teach knife safety and they lost it in the Bush for a year. I found it and it works great still didn't even rust. It's size is good feels heavy and solid but not to small. Helped me many times. Only gripe is I like the main blade to not be serrated. Still great tool.
Despite negative stuff about this multitool, it is fantastic for medium/small stuff. Despite what shorts I am wearing I forget I am carrying it. Pliers a step up from mini models, but not intended for heavy jobs. Knife always ready, screwdrivers work in a pinch, opens beer great, knife sharp, and light weight. Reverse clip holds more securely than Leatherman, less likely to lose.
Picked up the Gerber Crucial because I was in the market for a multi-tool and I liked the looks of this one, plus I've heard positive things about the company. The Crucial isn't a bad multi-tool, it's just that in hindsight it's a little more basic than I'd have preferred. The blade is fine, has a serrated section near the base that gets through tougher material somewhat easily, and the flat and Phillips screwdrivers work I suppose but the belt/pocket clip will start to dig into your palm if you use it for too long (more than one screw) or with much force. The bottle opener is built into the carabiner clip but could probably have been incorporated into either of the screwdriver features and the carabiner replaced with a different and actually useful feature like ... Overall I'd say I'm happy with this tool but still have my eye out for something with a few more features without going mental. Oh, and the two-tone green model totally looks like something you'd find clipped to Master Chief's armor.
I went through several multi-tools before I found just the right one. This one is it. I now own three. It's great for outdoors but I also use it for my job as a hockey team equipment manager. The best things about it are the quality of the knife blade, the philips head screwdriver, and the clip/bottle opener. This thing has helped me save the day many times.
The opening and closing mechnism on the outer acessories feld soooooo good.I use the paper clip kinda thing to hold it securely in a pockets or waistbands, when i thought i would have to find a holster for it... But the clip does such a good job i won't need to.Lol I also chose it because it doesnt have man or army in its name. And a very good price.
This tool compares to Leathermans Skeletool but the carabiner or strapcutter fold into the handle, making a more compact package. Just the basic tools. Nothing else. Love the weight and tools. Finish doesnt hold up over time. Be ready to deal with scratches and wear patterns. Good value tool.
This happens to be one of the best multi-tools I've ever owned. The blade is much like a regular pocket knife, and the pliers are easily accessible for optimum convenience. The pliers include wire cutters, which I use for my hobby of making chain necklaces and bracelets out of soda and beer tabs from cans. It's a bit heavier than a regular pocket knife, which is equitable to its durability and wide range of functions, including a flat and Phillips head screwdriver. The carabiner clip can also be used as a bottle opener or a pry tool.
