A Beast of a saw, slightly heavier than the cheapo ones, but perfectly balanced and with the right blades everything I've cut so far offered no resistance - like a knife thro' butter - as they say. OK there is no battery but with a little safety sense it's no problem - keep the power cable over your shoulder and behind you. I just love it - best buy of 2020

A bit heavier than others, but well designed for comfort and low vibration to hands. Handles anything you put in front of the blade and dont bogg down. Absolutely the best sawsall I have ever used! I have a dewalt for lightweight jobs but for heavy all day nothing compared to this Makita....

As a professional tradesman, there's only 2 companies that clearly make the best all around products; Makita and Milwaukee. Sorry DeWalt. I'm a Makita guy... But pick either one and you're a winner. Certain tools are nice cordless, but others just need the extra amperage. Case in point...reciprocating saws demand and deserve a heavy, consistent power flow for serious cutting. It's not old school vs new school. It's just the way it is. Next time you're cutting a pressure treated 4x12 with a 36v 5amp/hr sawzallvs a 15amp corded, let me know how it goes. Anyways my last Makita was an 11 amp corded and lasted me 11 years with constant use. I really beat it up good too. I decided to bump up to this 15 amp 8 months ago. It's bullet proof. It doesn't complain or struggle ... MoreAs a professional tradesman, there's only 2 companies that clearly make the best all around products; Makita and Milwaukee. Sorry DeWalt. I'm a Makita guy... It doesn't complain or struggle with anything. It's a bit heavy but the balance and feel immediately offsets the weight. Lastly the metal case is pretty sweet too. It's fitted perfectly with a custom compartment for blades, extra room in the middle for cord, and metal latches fit snug. Framers and plumbers... You gotta get it.

I bought this saw about thee weeks ago, for performing a variety of jobs. I have used it for pruning, and is much safer than a chainsaw. the antivibration technology seems to work well. In a few weeks I will be using it to cut out a stump.
Ive been working in residential remodeling for 25 years. This is the best recipe saw Ive ever used. My old Super Sawzall finally died and I went to buy another. Salesman at my supplier said dont buy it, theyve changed and everyone is complaining about them breaking. I didnt listen and bought one and sure enough both the blade holding clamp and the guide stop broke quickly. So I got this. Its vastly superior. Stronger, easier, one handed blade clamp. Stronger, easier guide stop. Stronger motor. Better orbital selector, which has multiple settings and is protected from impact. And the anti-vibration is for real and is great, making the saw considerably less powerful than it is. As for the weight, this is a powerful, durable professional grade saw. If you need to do ... If you need to do what it does, its not too heavy. If you dont, buy something else or if its too heavy you should frankly not be doing this kind of work.
We originally purchase was a Milwaukee 6538-21 15 Amp Super Sawzall Orbital Recip Saw. After exchanging with multiple replacement units as the switch appeared to be defective, it was brought to my attention from their Engineering Staff that the switch was not defective; it's an inherent design issue (flaw). Feel free to read my comments regarding that particular tool.Due to the fact we (company) now owned both tools, I can give an honest opinion between the two. Feel free to read my comments regarding that particular tool.Due to the fact we (company) now owned both tools, I can give an honest opinion between the two. The two Milwaukee saws were returned as of the Makita's purchase.Nuts and bolts:1) Both tools are powerful and will get just about any job done there's a major design flaw with the Milwaukee variable speed control so if you're deciding between the two and controllability with variability is a concern, hands down, the Makita tool wins. THIS is the reason why the Milwaukee saws were returned for refund. Once again, read my Milwaukee 6538-21 review which posts a video of the issue as well. Don't ever plan to use the Milwaukee for say cutting aluminum trim where you need to start slow and controlled. For me, predictability and knowing that when I want to start a tool slow and steady, I can. Even changing the blade can be a challenge if you're trying to forward the motor to "stick-out" the blade lock for easier change.2) I prefer the swivel aspect of the Milwaukee tool. It's a nice benefits that in rare instances you need to rotate the blade 90 degrees (handle actually), it's there. This is one of those nice to have features but not mandatory. Some may look at this being negative (for those half empty folks), more moving parts to fail.3) There is a slight difference between vibration of the Makita saw (which its name implies "AVT, anti-vibration-technology"), it does live up to the name and is has a much smoother feel during use. If you're using it for long periods of time, this can be a life saver on your wrists and forearms, and in my case being almost 45 the beginnings of arthritis setting in!4) Makita's placement of controls appears to have a better thought-out design and (in time) may be more durable. For example, the orbital slide-lever adjustment on the Milwaukee is plastic and sits at the top 12 o'clock position of the head. Makita's lever switch is recessed and on the side (easier to switch too). If you're wearing gloves, the Makita's switch will be easier to adjust. Due to location and design, Milwaukee's orbital switch is unprotected from objects hitting the slide-lever; I can see it breaking off rather easily. On a side note, the Milwaukee saw, I found it rather difficult to slide between positions with the two that I originally purchased.5) The Makita tool is slightly quieter (may be due to the fact the motor spins at a slightly slower rate.6) Milwaukee's warranty is better being 5 years vs. 1 year for Makita. I believe both would last a very long time under hard use so hopefully warranty work is not necessary for either tool. The fluffy comments:1) I like the appearance of Milwaukee tools better...never been a fan of the Makita color. Not really a flaw...it's their identifying color.2) Milwaukee's case is blow-molded plastic; Makita's is sheet-formed metal. Which is better, that is a personal choice. A plastic case crack, metal bends and can be fixed. Metal cases you have to be more careful with if you're laying it on a surface that may scratch easier. They can be slightly heavier. The case size of the Makita's is larger which is MUCH nicer whereas adding accessories in the case vs. separately is a plus.In a nutshell, the Makita 1.24" AVT saw met all of needs, overall it's a better design and performs better due to the variable switch control.
Bought this as a replacement for my old Makita so know it is up to the job. I regularly use it for cutting up all sorts of wood from pallets to tree trunks for my logburner. I use Makita and Bosch 240mm & 300mm blades which cut quite thick trunks. Straightforward to use and quick, easy blade change. It is quite heavy but you get used to it. The carry case is a bonus and handy for storage.
Not a big fan of this saw. The soft start throws you off because of the delay. And it claims to be anti vibe but it vibrates way more than the skilsaw recipe that retails for a third of the price of this one
The Makita recip saw worked great for the job. I needed to take a wooden roof off a wooden shed. Working above my head seemed dangerous. The Makita allowed me to cut manageable sections off and bring down the pieces safely. The saw was heavy and I thought it was too much for someone my size. But, in action, the saw did job the quickly and my arms never got tired. The extra power of a 15amp saw made the job easier.
UPDATE #2: This saw continues to amaze me. Makes light work out of everything I throw at it. Powerful enough to saw through everything I need it to. Anti vibration is nice especially when cutting at an angle. UPDATE: Used a bi-metal blade and this cut through some old metal railings with ease. Cuts were clean and quick. Can't say enough good things about this. I was hesitant to get the AVT model as I thought it was a gimmick. It's not. There is a noticeable difference with this compared to other sawzalls I've used. It has a good heft to it, but is not cumbersome or difficult to maneuver. It chews through wood and drywall with ease. Have not and probably won't use it on pipe, so can't speak to its ability there. Price was good and the metal carrying case was a nice ... MoreUPDATE #2: This saw continues to amaze me. Makes light work out of everything I throw at it.
