Milwaukee 48221515 Side Slide Utility Knife

I was unable to get the provided blade in, and knife seemed to have a defect in the slider mechanism that prevented loading. Though I've used many utility knives at work, I still assumed this was user error and requested my contractor partner assist me. Partner assisted, and also was unable to get blade in. On further examination, partner identified the same defect.Item is unusable. The defect with the button/slider mechanism appears, from reading other reviews, to be a common point of failure. It may be best to investigate other available utility knives. Apparently in the past Milwaukee made a very good utility knife that looks similar to this, but has since updated it in unuseful ways to its current iteration.

A Total Piece of Junk Unworthy of the Brand

Where is the utility of a knife that demands 30 minutes to change a blade? The product description is flat-out wrong- this knife is NOT designed for quick blade changes. As many others have reported (too bad I couldn't read reviews while in store), this knife is just wrong- and, with the release button so close to the tip, has danger all over it.The best I can do with it is shove the blade in with a pair of pliers and hope for the best.I DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL.

Can’t Load Blade in Handle-You have a Problem

Milwaukee you have a problem with the “easy quick change button” with this box cutter. Looking at reviews I see at least several others with same problem. Yes I reviewed instructions and kept button continually pushed while loading blade. It must be a manufacturing process issue. The handle felt great and solid and comfortable I probably would have liked this unit if I could get the blade in.

I thought I was buying the old slider model, never would have guessed there would be any reason to change anything, but they changed everything. It seems every possible corner was cut (not with this knife). The blade doesn't stay in any position, so in my pocket the slider moves the blade out when I reach for it. Got this knife on my way to work, and when work is over this knife is done too.Look at the review numbers, 27x 1 star reviews out of 28. Milwaukee ought to try to preserve their image and just pull these feom the shelves. It's supposed to be a straight forward tool, you have made a great one before, it's all the more disappointing for this to be so far off the mark.

Not likely to cut anything with this--

I don't doubt that it is a great knife. But whoever put the handle together in China used a screw with a head that's unusuble. It's not 1/16, it's not 1.5 mm, it's not 1.27 mm and it doesn't appear to be any Torx screw either. So now I've got a hunk of red metal to look at that is as useless as a left handed hermaphrodite.The handle does not have preloaded blades, so it looks like I'll never be able to cut anything with it--since I can't get it open to load the blades.

Shoddy packaging.

As with other reviewers, I struggled to insert the blade the first time. There are NO INSTRUCTIONS. I am not a novice, having used Stanley, Ace and other retractable blade knives for over 30 years. And as the manufacturer notes, there IS A TRICK to inserting the blade - hold down the black button continuously while inserting the blade. It would be nice if Milwaukee bothered to mention this on the packaging. And speaking of packaging, the single blade provided is put in the same hard-to-open packaging as the handle. Good luck avoiding slicing yourself on the packaging or the blade while extracting it from the packaging. Oh yeah, the blade itself seems nice after you get everything put together.

[Rewarded Review] A nice addition to my tool box

This side sliding utility knife is a good addition to my tool box. The blade is easily slide in and out. The handle was a good amount of heft to it without it being too heavy to tire out your wrist or hand. The shape of the handle allows for a easy grip on the knife. The side has a storage area where you can store any extra blades to have on hand when you need them.

This is my first utility knife that doesn’t require a screwdriver to get to the blade storage and install new blades. I love that I can simply pull down the hinged handle to get a new blade. That compartment has a clip to hold blades tight so if you open it down, they won’t come flying out. There is also space to just throw them in loose. The handle seems like it would not accidentally open once closed, so that is good. One blade came with it. To install or remove a blade in the tip, slide the slider to the tallest blade position and just press the side button to compress the clip that holds the blade and slide it right in/out the front opening. The blade position slider works fine and has the typical 3 positions and in. Milwaukee side sliding utility knife is much easier and safer for me to use than the folding utility knife I used before. I kept the folding knife open most of the time because it was so hard for me to fold. This side sliding utility knife is so easy to slide the blade back into the handle. It has storage in the handle for about five extra blades so they are always with you when you need to change. There is a button at the end of the knife that you press to release the blade for easy changing. Good weight and size for control.
