I am do a ton of real estate photography and I bought this lens to use on my z6 because it is light and works well with my Ronin S when I do video. Today, I used it for the first time for still images. There is no profile for this lens in Lightroom as the corrections are made inside the lens...allegedly. I had a horrible time getting my vertical lines. I had to use guided in LR to fix 85% of the images. And yes, I always, always make sure the camera is absolutely level when I shoot. (I use a tripod).

When I picked up my first Z body, I grabbed this lens as the 14-24 had yet to be released. And over about a year I took some of my all-time favorite landscape shots with it. When the 14-24 arrived, I figured I could keep the 14-30 and add the 20/1.8 for astro, or sell the 14-30 and grab the 14-24 and use it for both astro and landscape work. I ended up selling the 14-30 and grabbing the 14-24. After about a year, I ended up re-buying the 14-30 while also keeping the 14-24. Here's why.The 14-24 is fantastic, and I love it for astro. The problem with it is that the filters are massive, and hood is as well, and when I'm shooting landscapes, I'm often swapping back and forth between it and my 24-70, especially when honing a composition. I will use it when I need absolute perfect corners, but it takes up a lot of space in bag, so it's often at home unless I'm doing astro.Since the 14-30 takes the same filters as the 24-70/2.8, it simplifies my carry kit. Plus, it is almost unbelievably light. At f/8 and beyond, it's an almost dead heat between it and the 14-24 (for landscape shots), and I love the range. It's only an extra 6mm at the long end, but I find that I swap lenses in the field about 95% less when I'm using it as opposed to when I'm using the 14-24. All that means that it's the lens I have with me, especially if I'm hiking.I won't be getting rid of either the 14-24 or the 14-30, but if I had to eliminate one ... it would likely be the 14-24 as the size, weight, range, IQ and ease of use of the 14-30 makes for an unbeatable combination.

This is a nice addition to Nikon's line-up of new lenses for the Z-line cameras. Image quality is good and I believe this lens will meet most people's requirements when they need to use a wide angle lens. I appreciate the extra zoom range and the significant weight loss compared to Nikon's F-series 14-24mm f/2.8 lens. I have both lens and will continue to use the F-series lens for night photography. Beyond that, the Z 14-30mm lens will be my lens of choice, especially when traveling.

I've had the AF-S 14-24mm f2.8 for years, and while I love it, I don't love the bulk and inability to easily filter it. I actually bout the Benro filter that slips over the back and allows you to use a massive 150mm polarizer, but it is a huge space hog and clunky. This 14-30 does everything that I want, while taking up less space is my kit, weighing less and easily accepting filters. IF I were big into Night Sky I would have agonized over giving up the stop from 2.8 to f4, but for me (an occasional Milky Way shooter) it was not an issue. I much prefer the 14-30 for all the reasons already mentioned.
The NIKKOR Z 14-30 /4S is a fantastic lens for landscape and architectural photography. The focal length range provides a unique perspective, allowing you to capture interesting close-ups and awesome landscapes.Image quality is superb: the nuances in color and texture really surprised me.The autofocus is fast, accurate, and silent. Yes, it's not an f/2.8, but I can't tell the difference.I've had this lens for 22 months now and I couldn't be happier. Paired with my Z7II, this is now my go to, everyday lens.
I have the Nikon Z9 and have been using a very good third-party 15mm-30mm f2.8 lens. The lens is good; but the size, weight, slight distortion, and edge softness was limiting. The Nikon 14mm-30mm f4 lens has solved all the limitations of the other lens. I now have room to carry the ultra-wide lens in my bag and the performance is outstanding. The price was very good too.
My comparison is based on both f-mount Nikkor UWA zoom lenses: the 16-35mm and 14-24mm F/2.8 which I have owned GOOD copies of in the past. If you are a serious advanced or pro landscape photographer and are using the Z system, you won't need to invest an extra $$ on the huge f/2.8 lens. This lens blows BOTH the previously mentioned lenses away with regards to edge to edge sharpness, clarity, contrast, NO distortion, and overall image quality. The 16-35mm f/4 to me was a serviceable lens, lighter than the iconic 14-24 f/2.8, and able to mount a quality ND filter via filter threads. However, the 16-35 introduced quite a bit of distortion (somewhat fixable in post) and did not deliver the image quality of the bulbous glass 14-24.The Nikkor Z 14-30 actually seemed ... MoreMy comparison is based on both f-mount Nikkor UWA zoom lenses: the 16-35mm and 14-24mm F/2.8 which I have owned GOOD copies of in the past. However, the 16-35 introduced quite a bit of distortion (somewhat fixable in post) and did not deliver the image quality of the bulbous glass 14-24.The Nikkor Z 14-30 actually seemed to provide a wider focal length than the 14-24 f-mount, I'm not sure if it's delivering 13mm at the widest end or the older f/2.8 lens didn't zoom out to a full 14mm. Needless to say, not a huge deal but yet another advantage.I've used this lens shooting architecture in NYC, and nature landscape photography in the New England region so far. I often like to shoot into the sun for starburst, and I do NOT get lens flare with the native Z lens like I often did with both f-mount lenses. One other benefit is I'm not needing to focus-stack in post-processing that was mandatory using the 16-35mm for greater DOF and avoiding lens diffraction.By habit, I religiously bracket focus stacked images. I'm finding a single frame image file at f/16 or f/18 to deliver sharp focus front to back even if I place the sensor @ 24 from the foreground elements in the scene. In case your wondering, focus breathing does not present any issues. Just not an issue.Lastly, it should be noted that the S line lenses are designed to resolve the nearly 50mp that the Z7 provides and more. I feel the 14-24 f mount lens reached its maximum resolution with the D810 at just under 40mp. I know this is a long review, but I hope you gain from it.
I have seen some reviews that suggest the Z 14-30mm is soft. I may be just plain lucky, but of eighteen lenses I have purchased over time for my Nikon cameras, I have never discovered a lens that was soft. It is atypical for me to take a photograph that is so perfect that I cannot find a way to improve it in post-production. There are some who do not care to perform any procedure in post...even to crop or straighten an image. Relatively simple attention to detail in post can dramatically improve the quality of an image. Below, I have provided for your examination, a cropped image and the same image cropped much more taken with the Nikon Z 7II & Z 14-30mm.
I am not a pixel peeper, but am critical of my work, and I am very pleased with this lens, which provides such a range of really useful focal lengths in a package about the size of the Nikkor's Z 24-70 f/4--no mean feat.I love the images this lens affords and the increased likeliness of having this lens with me due to its compact, feather-weight form factor. This lens, coupled with perhaps the AF-P 70-300 FX and adapter, can do so very much outside if just hitting the trail. Throw a Z 50mm f/1.8 in there, and low light is covered as well. It's nicely weather proofed, produces first rate images in those areas that are usually most important, and it's highly portable. Another winner.
The autofocus on this lens is very smooth and silent. The image quality is great as well. My biggest complaint with the Z series lenses is that Nikon made them unnecessarily high-tech which increases the cost. Having a focus meter on the lens would be very nice to ensure your lens is actually focused correctly. However, it appears that is the way the industry is going with all other brands as well. The ability to change the function of the focus ring is pretty neat, but probably not practical for the majority of the users.
