Name a drugstore hair color, I've used it. And if you have used box dyes for a long time you've no doubt had a moment of weakness where you thought, "But... it's so cheap!! What can go wrong?" I used it in the past and for very basic shades, like black and brown, it is ok. But it is very flat. You cannot apply it uniformly and get any dimension unless natural highlights show through or you have greys. Expect reds to wash right on out, and don't even try to lighten with this product. If you do want to use it, apply serum to very dry/processed ends first. Don't go more than 1 level lighter, or 2 darker. And if your hair is already dyed, do not attempt to lighten or change tone with this or any box color unless you know what you're doing well work. I think it's always worth it to wait to afford better color and if you want a drastic change go to a salon of course. Honestly if you can't afford $6-10 more, dying your hair might not be a priority in your life so just hold off and avoid regrets you gotta walk around with on your head!

What really drawn me to purchase this particular hair dye is that it's ammonia free. I thought that might be easier and healthier for my hair than the hair dye with ammonia. Also, I've noticed that it is extremely difficult to find hair dye in the drugstore that's ammonia free. I've been dying my own hair for years. This was convenient. The only issue that I had was I noticed a lot of fallout when rinsing the product out of my hair. And there is only a tiny conditioner packet that comes with this hair dye. Works very well, especially for being so cheap. Used it to dye a light brown wig to a soft black. Added 10 more minutes as it’s lighter but could have added the extra 10 minutes recommended for blond hair. Had to keep working dye into hair to the whole process as I’d see parts that weren’t coloring as fast on their own. Very pleased with the lighter streaks throughout. Much prefer this to a flat solid black. First time using hair dye so thought it would all be just single-tone black. This was a very expensive natural hair wig so glad it didn’t cause any shedding. The no drip formula is easy to apply. The conditioner is so good. The hair is extremely soft. Wish they sold by itself. I’ll be using conditioner for color treated hair from now on. I like a darker root and pieces between my highlights so it doesn’t look washed out. Also: my hair is medium brown and colored. I got a few “hot roots” using another product in a cool tea, so best to stick to medium brown or dark brown (without golden or red tones if you have dark brown hair with blonde highlights and need to cover grays or add back some dimension. If your hair is thick medium length you probably need 3-4 boxes. I bought the 004 blonde. The pictures will the multi colored long sleeve top is the before pictures, my natural color. The other 2 pictures with the short sleeve black dress are the after pictures. I followed the instructions and left on for 45 minutes. The only thing I think that went wrong was that I needed 4 boxes. Not sure if I will do this again as it will take 4 years for new hair to completely replace the coated dye hair. Very pleasantly surprised!

Used the Ultra Light Sun Blonde on my dark brown 20% grey roots trying to blend them with my bleach blonde lengths. I didn't expect much as I do understand haircolor theory and my hair is hard to lift past orange even with bleach but I get impatient and impulsive when I decide I need my hair done NOW. I used a drugstore bleach kit last time, then overtoned my blonde ends trying to fix orange roots, so I didn't dare do another bleach "selfie" (my hairdressers always tell me selfies are for photos not hairdos) and risk bad damage from the inevitable overlap. I had this under my sink and decided to give it a shot and figured worst case scenario I'd have to go get my roots only done professionally. I was very pleasantly surprised! See pics

good box dye option

i got shade 60 dark ash blonde. on my level 8 bleached hair this gave me a nice cool light brown. there might be a very slight greenish tint but i think that will go away with a few washes. on my level 6/7 roots the color is more reddish and it did not lift much lighter even though i left it for an extra 15 before doing the ends. this color kind of behaves like a toner and i would not recommend it for hair darker than a 7 or 8 because any lift will reveal some red tones. if your hair is bleached, i think this is a good option this dye was actually quite gentle. my bleached hair is somewhat damaged and this did not give me any additional breakage or damage. with the conditioner, my hair was very soft after
