$599.95

(224 reviews)

Big sound from a compact cabinet, the Prime Satellite speaker punches well above its class with impressive dynamics and pinpoint accuracy. Serves perfectly in a 5.1 home theater as surrounds or front left/right speakers with a subwoofer. Easily mounts to a wall or bracket. From the moment you feel the heft of the Prime Satellite speakers, you understand they’re not the typical compact satellite speaker designed primarily for lifestyle or visual appeal. The Prime Satellite is a bona fide small bookshelf speaker that deftly plays any role in a home theater or audio system, and shatters expectations while doing it. No satellite speakers have ever offered the level of rigorous design, high-end components and precise build quality in a such a super compact cabinet. The Prime Satellite conveys stunning dynamic impact and convincing detail and refinement well beyond what’s expected from such a small speaker. It easily mounts on any wall or ceiling, or sits on any surface, and is painstakingly voiced to blend with all speakers from the SVS Prime and Ultra Series lines. It’s also neutral sounding enough to integrate seamlessly with speakers from other brands in multi-channel home theater surround sound systems. These factors give the Prime Satellite incredible flexibility to serve in many different roles depending on the layout of your room and the specific needs of your system.

The midrange is mostly clear and sharp, but never fatiguing in most cases. A boon for heavy dialogue content indeed. Surprisingly, the soundstage offered by the Prime Sats when placed properly were nothing short of great. 4" drivers and 1" tweeter it may have, but its soundstaging capabilities matches that of many 5.25" and even 6.5" bookshelfs! The Prime Sats can function well in a variety of ways. They are very decent as front sounding L/R speakers, but they are adept as surround side and back placements. I've even tried them on at height presence locations, yet they don't falter when an Atmos/DTS:X track needs the usage of the height channels. The Neutral:I wish the binding posts were full sized binding posts. They aren't a concern by any means, but I'd prefer the look of it without my banana plugs looking like it was plugged half way in. The keyway bracket should also have been a couple inches deeper to accommodate for the possibility of port flaring at the back (which I have witnessed at a crossover of 80hz).The Bad:No speakers are perfect and the Prime Sats certainly isn't. As good as its prowess in imaging and in the midrange, on its own the Prime Sats doesn't produce a lot of bass. It's really just physics, having to cram a 4" driver and a 1" tweeter into such a small enclosure in relativity to other bookshelfs, the low end often times suffer. The Prime Sats does need a subwoofer to compliment its capabilities, otherwise it can sound weak and dull. As a bit of a disappointment, there are several bookshelfs which are nearly the same size as the Prime Sats, yet produce a lot more authoritative low-end.Conclusion:These are possibly the best satellite speakers I've ever heard, better than any of which Bose, Polk or any satellite integrated soundbar would ever sound. SVS wanted to make good satellites and of course, they did. Images well, good balanced midrange, broad soundstage, it's the trifecta needed in accuracy of sound production above the mid-bass region. It isn't without fault as the Prime Sats do need need a compelling subwoofer to compliment its sonic capabilities. The more I relief the the Sats of bass duties, the better it gets. So don't be worried to even match them with SVS own SB13u or any of the ported subs.As an re-assurance, I've paired the Prime Satellites with the Prime Towers, Prime Bookshelfs and Ultra Bookshelfs. Using the Prime Sats as surround side and back duties, they've never once felt like they were a bolt-on fix for more a immersive soundfield. The Prime Sats meld properly with any of its bigger brothers and as a final note; I wouldn't hesitate to use them as height presence speakers either.

Better than they outta be.

Instead, the sound emerges completely and honestly, with no sense that it has been "processed."Careful engineering yields great sound, for not a lot of money, in the SVS Prime Satellites.

(SVS subs ofcourse I highly recommend). I did little bit deeped, and checked Sound and Vision review of SVS 5.1 sattelite review, and it did confirm my suspicion, frequency response is 98hz +- 3db. So SVS rating is off by no good 30Hz difference. Not sure how SVS even gotten that 68hz+- 3db. No wonder I miss complete texture male voices. I bought these trusting SVS reputation, I hope, SVS take a look at this and correct actual specs of these speakers, or fix the speaker so that people would not be mistaken. SVS can reach me if they dispute any of this.

Excellent choice for desktop audio system
17 August 2020

I purchased a pair of Prime satellite speakers for my desktop audio system, which includes a 10 inch subwoofer (alas, not a SVS sub), a Rotel amp rated at 50 wpc, and an Emotiva DAC. Source material includes music videos (classical, jazz and classic rock) and streaming movies.I am very impressed by the design and the 'fit 'n' finish' of the speaker; tapered (chamfered) edges and separate compartments for tweeter and mid/woofer are very uncommon at this price point (but those features are common among far pricier speakers). My speakers have the "black ash" finish; it's a vinyl wrap but is visually appealing. My speakers have the "black ash" finish; it's a vinyl wrap but is visually appealing. They're even finished on the back which again is more the exception rather than the rule for a box speaker at this price point. Most important, of course, is the sound -- and these speakers do not disappoint. With proper setup (primarily to ensure that the tweeters are at ear level and that the speakers are equidistant from the listener's ears and from each other), they produce very satisfying results. They are especially good at reproducing female vocals (my favorites include Alison Krauss, Sylvia McNair and Rebecca Pidgeon). My five star rating of the Prime satellite speakers is not intended to suggest that they're the best sounding speakers for a desktop audio system. If you're willing to spend more (a lot more), chances are you can find something that to your ears will sound even better. Conversely, if you're looking for a powered speaker for casual listening that's a step up from cheap plug-in speakers, look elsewhere. But for me, in the context of desktop audio, I don't know of another speaker that represents a better combination of value, design, construction and sound quality. Highly recommended.

Great Speakers - Prime Satellite speakers in while finish
10 September 2021

Purchased Prime Satellite speakers in while finish to replace my Polk Monitor 30 (needed something smaller but comparable) and these speakers - for the size - sound very good -- above my expectations. They also look amazing. My only negative is that I wished the banana plugs would have worked. Because the speaker terminals are nearly flush with speaker the banana plugs would interfere with hanging on the wall. So had to remove the banana plugs and just use the bare wire. Other than this -- these speakers are great.

Great for surround use when matching with other Prime speakers.
21 January 2021

I picked up 4 of the Prime Satellites to replace my old Polk RTi28 bookshelf speakers that were doing side/rear surround duty in my home theater. I had already replaced my front three with Prime Towers and Center, and I wanted to have timbre-matched speakers all the way around. Given that the Prime Bookshelf has no easy way to wall mount it, the Satellite seemed like my best option.Pros:1. They perfectly match the other speakers in the Prime series, giving you a very cohesive blend with the other channels. Running these in a 7.1.4 config with Elevations as heights gives you great bed-to-height imaging for immersive audio.2. Running these in a 7.1.4 config with Elevations as heights gives you great bed-to-height imaging for immersive audio.2. The tweeter is outstanding, giving you imaging that places sound beyond the speaker's physical location but is still able to deliver precise placement of sounds between channels.3. Mids are tight and punchy, providing effects from movies that can be downright scary given the speaker's diminutive size.4. The wall mount is a nice inclusion, as is the thread for using external mounts.5. Build quality is excellent, and the speakers feel surprisingly hefty for their size.6. The off-axis response is fantastic, making these a great option for small side surrounds placed between two rows of seating.Cons:1. Despite the spec'd low-end -3dB response of 69Hz, these small speakers really needed more breathing room if you want to run them at an 80Hz crossover. Given the slope of most crossovers (and my measured in-room response), the Satellite has to be crossed at around 100Hz for a smooth transition, which isn't ideal. I would have preferred if they had increased the volume of the cabinets just enough to get a little deeper response... or that a wall mount option had been built into the Prime Bookshelf's design so that they were a viable alternative. I also own the Prime Wireless 2.1 setup which uses the same tweeter/driver config, and the slightly bigger cabinets in those give you just enough low end for an 80Hz crossover to work nicely, so I wish the Satellites had been just a bit larger.2. Requiring stick-on rubber pads for wall-mounting purposes feels like an afterthought. It seems like some solution could have been worked into the build of the speaker itself so that it would wall mount flush on its own. As it is, you basically have to stick two of the little pads on top of each other to get them to sit level on the wall when using the wall mount. Those minor niggles aside, the Prime Satellites make for an outstanding side/rear surround speaker, with a very dynamic sound when the movie's soundtrack calls for it. While the lower -3dB point doesn't quite compare to my older Polks, the gain in clarity, precision and punch in the midrange makes these a worthy replacement.

Great little speakers!
30 January 2018

I bought a set of the Prime Sattelites after searching through all the information and reviews I could find. I wanted to upgrade from 5.1 to 7.1.2 and was looking for a good speaker that wasnt too large in size to fill in as surrounds in my theater room. The Prime Sattelites sounded like the perfect fit. I also bought a set of the Prime Elevations to handle the height speaker duties and mounted them on the ceiling just in front of the seating. When the Prime Sattelites arrived I wasn’t quite ready to install them in the theater room yet so I thought I’d give them some run time in Missing You workout room. I wired them up in place of my Polk Audio bookshelf speakers that are a much larger full range speaker with 6.5” drivers. I wired them up in place of my Polk Audio bookshelf speakers that are a much larger full range speaker with 6.5” drivers. I was amazed that the little Prime Sattelites with 4.5” drivers gave up nothing in sound quality to the larger Polks and sounded great out of the box. You need to run a sub with the Prime Sattlelited because 4.5” drivers can’t really handle the low frequencies, no matter how hard they try, but the Sattelites blended perfectly with the Paradigm sub in the workout room and filled the space with great sound.Once the Prime Elevations arrived I installed the Sattelites and Elevations in the theater room with a new Yamaha RX-A3070 receiver, Paradigm front, center, left, and rear sattelites, along with a Def Tech Trinity sub. The Prime Sattelites had big shoes to fill being matched with the other gear and did their job beautifully! The Elevations fill the height effects seamlessly, and the Sattelites, while a little brighter than the Paradigms, filled in the 7.1 surround effects beautifully. The speakers are great and I have thoughts of replacing the main speakers with SVS Ultra Towers, center channel and rear surrounds some day soon!On top of first rate speakers, I have been amazed by SVS as a company. Very personable, very willing to spend time talking to me and explaining anything and everything I had questions about, and willing to bend over backwards to get me a set of Elevation speakers when the supply was back ordered longer than I could wait!Great speakers and a great company! What more can you ask for!! 5 stars only because I couldn’t give them 6!!

Outstanding Performance, Quality, Value!
27 July 2015

I discovered SVS while researching a subwoofer for the eventual replacement of a 19 year old acoustic suspension subwoofer designed by the late Henry Kloss. I had it mated with five of the original Ensemble satellites in a 5.1 system which has been very dependable and has performed well over the years. I became intrigued with the newly introduced Prime Satellites and wanted to find out if, in fact, they were that much superior to the older design. They are! My Prime satellites arrived in a few days, well-packed and inspected by Josh-thank you! A welcoming letter and a thank you for the purchase from Gary Yacoubian, President and Managing Partner of SVS, was in the box also. A welcoming letter and a thank you for the purchase from Gary Yacoubian, President and Managing Partner of SVS, was in the box also. How often does this happen!I mounted the satellites high on the front wall with Omnimounts, the center satellite below the TV, and the rear surrounds high on bookshelves toed-in towards the "sweet spot", about 15 feet from the front speakers. The Audyssey feature on my Onkyo home theater receiver did an outstanding job of "blending" everything together. As to sound, initially the Prime Satellites were "pretty good", but in my opinion they need a "break in" period. After a couple of weeks and several hours of listening to all kinds of material from a variety of sources including music, male and female voices, movies, and TV dialog, they have really "opened up" and "blossomed" into a smooth, well-balanced sound with great detail, clarity, and wide-dispersion. Combined with the PSW-1 subwoofer, they provide a rich, full-range, open and "airy" quality. It's easy to get lost in the sound and forget about the source. Each passing day I appreciate them even more. As far as I am concerned, Smith Freeman and his design team were right on with this design and execution.I have three recommendations for anyone contemplating a purchase of these speakers: 1. Mount them so all ports are open to "free air." 2. Mate them with a good powered subwoofer. 3. Be patient and give them a chance to "blossom." You'll be rewarded with superior sound in the end.Well done SVS! I'll be ordering a SB-2000 when the time comes.

Prime Satellites -surprising performance in a very small package
5 July 2021

I have been considering replacing some larger speakers I have been using on my desk as nearfield monitors. After much consideration and looking at specs, I finally decided to give the vey small Prime Satellites a try. They arrived two days ago, and I have been listening quite a bit since I connected them to my USB DAC/Amp on my computer. Their performance has been very surprising, and I am very happy I made the purchase. I have these little guys paired with an 8" DIY sub, but they are fairly punchy on their own. They have a nice, smooth, balanced sound, and a very small footprint on my desk. I would highly recommend these for this purpose, and I think they would also be an excellent choice for use as surround or Atmos height speakers. Superb fit and finish on Prime Satellite Speakers
29 November 2018

I ordered a pair of SVS Prime Satellite Speakers a few weeks ago. I was immediately impressed with the build quality and superb fit and finish of the speakers.I listen to the weekly "AV Rant" Podcast. The hosts Rob and Tom are always recommending SVS subwoofers and also often recommend the SVS Satellite speakers for small speakers that are very neutral and should mix well with most other speaker brands when looking for surround or surround back speakers mixed with other front mains and front center speakers. My existing speakers are all from the Polk RTi series from the early 2000's. There was the first RT series and the next generation was the RTi. ("i" for improved). This second generation is what I have. There was the first RT series and the next generation was the RTi. ("i" for improved). This second generation is what I have. I bought them all either at end-of-life of the series half off sales, or used from ebay .I realize that the Prime Satellites are probably overkill for use as surround backs, but the Polk RTi 38's are on Sanus speaker stands at the rear of the room. I was looking for something smaller that would be easily wall mountable to free up floor space and visually look better and less cluttered.Since the Prime Satellites are very small, and based on the specs, I did not expect them to have the same bass extension as the much larger Polk Rti 38's. But, I did want to compare in the midrange and high end between the two.In my living room, I also have Polk RTi 38's in a 2 channel setup. The Polks are on Sanus speakers stands pulled at least 2 feet from the side and rear walls toed in aimed at the center spot on the couch. Tweeters are pretty much at ear height, at least for me at 6 feet tall. The source was a Samsung Blu-Ray player used in this case to play CD's fed through an old but still working fine Yamaha R9 2 channel receiver. I connected the Prime Satellites to the B speaker terminals on the R9.I knew that it would not be fair to compare using Rock music or EDM or anything with very low bass. I turned the bass control on the R9 all the way down. I sat each Prime Satellite on top of one of the Polk RTi 38's lined up with the same toe in.I used the stereophile test CD (the first edition) and played most of the tracks on that CD. I would listen to each track first through the Polks connected to the A terminals, then listen to the Prime Satellites after switching the R9 from A to B speaker output.I am 63 years old and I know that I have lost some of my really high frequency hearing, but the last time I checked, I could still hear up to about 12 KHz. To me, I could not tell much difference, if any at all, between the two sets of speakers in the midrange and high end. Yes, the Polks had a little more fullness at the bottom end, but that is understandable. That is one reason I turned the bass control down and avoided music that lots of low end energy. All and all, I'm very pleased with my purchase. After I get the Prime Satellites mounted to the walls and have had some time to live with them, I will do another review.
