For almost 18 years, we have had so many furbabies, all Science Diet babies! I strayed once, fell for the allergy hype and all 3 black labs gained 20 pounds by their next wellness visit. Back to SD LIGHT (and nothing else foodwise changed) and they were back to their good weight. So many healthy babies in this family, all SD babies! I love the large breed light for the weight control and the joint health. We have also used the puppy large breed and the Perfect Weight (a little harder to find in Western CO) as they become more couch spuds and less bird dogs!

One of our dogs had been on her other food for awhile but was gaining weight. It was a nicer brand so was surprised. Our vet recommended finding a food that notes weight management or healthy weight. There was a version with the food she was on so we switched to that and it seemed to leave her really hungry and was getting sick which was very odd for her. We quickly switched to this Hills option because our other dog uses Hills prescription food and that has been life saving so knew we could trust the food to perform. She’s been on this food for several months now with no issues, lost her excess weight, and has maintained. She’s happy so we’re happy!

We searched and searched for the right food for our dog. On a whim, since he was gaining weight but never seemed “full”, I gave Hill’s a shot and am so glad I did! Although our giant lab has started to be “hungry” most of the time again, this food worked wonders for his coat, eyes and digestion! His poops are always firm and nowhere near as stinky as pre-Hill’s (gross but let’s face facts, as dog owners, this is a constant topic of conversation!) and he is as regular as can be. His eyes were always super gunky and itchy - that went away almost immediately when we switched to this food. He has a tiny bit of gunk and itch now 6 months later but I blame the pollen count. His coat is thick and soft and shiny and his energy level is great as well and he loves his food! ... MoreWe searched and searched for the right food for our dog. I own a 7 year old Golden Retriever. He's starting to slow down, and isn't looking as fit as he used to. He tends to have a sensitive stomach so I have to be careful In researching lower calorie dog foods I've found that many sacrifice protein levels. This food; Hills Science Diet Perfect Weight has 24% protein, 8% fat & 5% fiber. I like these ratio's. I'm doing a slow transition as directed. So far, my dog is doing fine, in fact, he's picking around his old food (Hills Science Diet Large Breed Adult) & eating the Perfect Weight first. I guess he likes the flavor. My only complaint is that the kibble is quite small compared to the old Large Breed food. I've found that my dog eats it too fast & chokes. My only complaint is that the kibble is quite small compared to the old Large Breed food. I've found that my dog eats it too fast & chokes. I've solved that by moistening the food with warm water which softens it. This is why I've given the food 4 stars & not 5. I will report again in a couple months to when my dog is totally transitioned to see if he's losing some weight or not.
I have two Labrador Retrievers and both were always said to be big boys when they got older. Well they were wide and big! One weighed 95lbs and the other weighed 103lbs and we’re not even a year old. We tried different brands and found that not only did this help with their patchy, yes patchy fur, it also helped with weight and they love it. They are both now 89lbs and the other is 99lbs and we have been on it for 2months now. Now the weight clearly didn’t come off quick but it is coming off and the vet is happy with the progress. Also might I add, they do stool a lot more but they do not seem hungry or searching for food! We only feed them 3-4cups a day and the vet recommended 2cups, but that won’t happen at all, sorry vet!! Overall we are so impressed and are so happy we switched. Our dogs are sensitive dogs and coming to Hills has been by far the best. Work some overtime if cost is a complaint. We can get 3-4weeks with two dogs on one 30lb bag. Mind you they do not eat the 4cups every day per dog! If you eat good, your dog should as well!
My puppy is a large breed and eats at least 2-21/2 of this every month. she does not like to eat pure dry food so i always have to mix it (4 cups dry food and 1 can wet food). I started feeding her Hills Science when she was 2 months old and i had just gotten her from a breeder. She had come with a bad case of worms/diarrhea and would not eat anything but water and bland bread or rice, i tried various foods but she wouldn't even touch them. My vet introduced us to the Digestive Care ID Diet both wet and dry and she ate date to my surprise so when she got better, i transitioned her to Large Breed Puppy Diet above and never went back to any other food. We have an 8-year-old black lab and when his 13-year-old companion died last fall, he was devastated. We got him a new buddy in the form of a little black lab girl and they quickly became best friends. Cooper and Cadie are the 5th and 6th black labs we've had over the past 25 years. Our dogs have always eaten their Hills Science Diet from the same bowel and we keep the bowl full so they can self-feed. We are very lucky that none of them have been particularly food focused and they have never been over weight. Since the puppy requires puppy food (she's 9 months now), we have been feeding both dogs the same Hills Science Diet Large Breed Puppy food. Our dogs always get compliments on their ultra shiny coats, white teeth and svelte waistlines from friends and veterinarians alike, thanks to Hills Science Diet!!!
This is a great product for large breeds. I highly recommend purchasing directly from Hills, however. Their list price is $62.70. No reason to pay an additional $15 to Petco. Additionally, if your vet participates in Hills VIP market, the cost is $47.03 and is shipped for free to your vet's office. If your vet doesn't participate, ask them to consider it. The savings is fantastic.
When I took my now 5 month old Goldendoodle to her initial puppy checkup part of the package included a small bag of Hill’s Science Diet Large Breed Puppy food. I had previously done research on puppy food and decided to go with another brand. My Vet recommended I use the Hill’s Science Diet as training treats. I did. My puppy loved the Hill’s Science Diet so much I made the switch and now feed it to her daily. Except for the short period when she was going through loosing her puppy teeth and it her for her to chew crunchy food, she gobbles down each meal. Tractor Supply has the best price for Hill’s Science Diet, beating all the big box stores and online stores. On top of that they frequently run specials which saves me even more. My pitbull mix is getting up there in years, so I've been blaming her low energy on that for a while. Switched to Perfect Weight this summer and cannot believe how much more energy she has! She cleans EVERY bowl (maybe even faster than she did with her last food) and just all around a happier, more energetic dog! It took a few weeks to notice a weight difference but after that it just fell off and she is down to what our vet was wanting - so happy with Hill's! Should have switched her to this sooner!!!
