I bought this on a whim and can honestly say it impressed me after only 1 use. My hair was noticeably softer, smoother, and shinier. Having used it several times now, the effects haven't diminished. There is no buildup from using this conditioner, my hair remains easy to style, and my hair's normal volume is maintained. My hair color seems to be enhanced, too, which is awesome. I paired this with the clove shampoo, but plan on purchasing the color control shampoo soon. The scent is rather strong, similar to incense, so that might be a con for folks sensitive to fragrance. At first I liked it, then it was irritating, now I'm used to it. One more thought: the type of conditioning I got from this color control conditioner after 2 minutes is similar to the Pulp Riot ... Color Control conditioner does seem to provide more moisture than the old Color Conserve conditioner and leaves my hair feeling soft. Color Control conditioner has a pleasant fragrance also. Although Aveda kept the size at 6.7 ounces, the new Color Control conditioner costs $6 more than the old Color Conserve conditioner-- that's a 20% price increase. It's a good conditioner, but other conditioners work as well at a lesser price. Even though I like the improvements in the conditioner, the product cost is prohibitive for me. I do not like the Color Control shampoo (see separate review), and I generally like to use the same brand conditioner and shampoo together, so I won't be purchasing Color Control conditioner again.

This color correcting conditioner has been working great for my needs! My usual hair stylist was out sick, and someone else from the salon filled in for my appointment with her. Although she left instructions, somehow my face-framing highlights ended up super blonde instead of just one shade lighter than my natural brown hair (for reference, my natural hair is about a 5N, and I usually get 6N highlights, but the stylist did 9N). I was told my only option would be to go back to the salon every 3 weeks to get a toner or glaze to darken them. Instead, I remembered this conditioner I used years ago to correct an uneven box dye my roommate did on my hair in college (we did not know what we were doing). In my hand, this conditioner looks just a tad darker than my natural ... The instructions say to leave on for 2-5 minutes, so my first use I left it on for 2 minutes. The highlights were still slightly lighter than I wanted but much improved! And after the second use they were right where I wanted them. I will continue to use this conditioner every few washes to maintain the darker color. Be sure to rinse your hands as soon as you've applied the conditioner, as it can stain! After a few weeks, I may go back to the salon and try to get the highlights fixed, but they were hesitant to do that immediately for fear of damaging my hair. Or maybe I'll just save my money. Either way, I have this conditioner to tide me over. It's not as moisturizing as I'd like, but my hair is shiny and soft when dry. And I can still alternate use with my usual conditioner. Thank you Aveda!

In my family, my husband and I often share shampoo and conditioner. One thing I really liked about Aveda Color Control Conditioner was that it has a neutral/clean smell. It doesn't smell full of perfumes. It has a clean, natural smell that works for everyone! It has a really creamy texture, and left my hair feeling soft, light, shiny. It really makes my highlights pop, and my hair looking fresh and healthy. My hair is medium/fine, and my husband has thick/coarse hair. It works great for both hair types! Overall, very happy with the conditioner, and feel like it takes great care of my hair, and of my family too!
I'm not sure how this has 4.2 stars. It has to be from the previous product this used to be.The very strong smell of this new version is absolutely awful! It didn't perform like the previous version either. If you have any allergies or sensitivities to strong smells, do not buy this. Even after you dry your hair, it's an awful strong smell that won't go away. Why did Aveda get rid of the great previous version of color conserve products and replace them with this awful stuff?!
I really had high hopes for this stuff given that it's more natural than most. First, the smell wasn't great. It smells kinda chemically enhanced for something plant derived. Second, i have super long hair, and they only gave me enough for one shower (barely). So not having enough to use over a period of time, I can't really say if it does anything over the long term. My hair DID feel soft after using it though. Third,I did notice a lot of color wash out. Not sure if having the matching shampoo would have helped that, but it definitely lightened up my root area. I'm going to need to color them again. All in all, it wasn't for me because of those reasons. I might just buy another bottle (much bigger)and see how it goes with the shampoo included. I absolutely love & enjoy bleaching the tips of my hair and dyeing them various vibrant colors throughout the year, however, I often stop myself from doing so as frequently as I'd like to because I'm very aware of the potential damage that those chemicals and dyes can inflict on my natural hair. I am a 33 yr old black woman with locs that reach my rear end. It's been extremely hard for me to find a consistent product that helps my hair retain some of that moisture and softness that gets lost after bleaching. The Aveda Color Control conditioner that I received and tested is a clear winner in this department after only one use! I recently bleached my hair and dyed the tips a shade of bright emerald green. It didn't take long before I started to see that my green was beginning to fade. I shampooed my hair as usual, but tried the Color Control conditioner in place of my regular brand this time around and... WOW!! I finally didn't find a sink full of excess hair dye mixed with soap (like I usually see during my wash day).I also truly believe that the Color Control conditioner did an amazing job of creating a nourishing and protective barrier for my hair, therefore making my hair feel much more alive while both retaining its moisture AND my hair color. I really appreciate the fact that this product is vegan, plant-based, and animal cruelty free as well! It checks almost all of my boxes and I'm very happy with the outcome. I'd purchase it for myself and I'd recommend it to others. So, why 4 stars instead of 5? I am sadly removing a star due to the size of the sample Aveda provided, and I will briefly explain why. The sample bottle was just barely big enough for me to apply the conditioner to about half of my entire head once. I have a ton of very thick kinky hair, and it's harder to rate the product honestly when I'm only able to test it on half of my head. I also really would've liked to try the shampoo and conditioner duo vs. just the conditioner... in order to gain the full experience. Just my humble opinion for Aveda to consider in the near future. Nonetheless, overall I am still quite pleased! 🙂
I have brown, thick wavy/curly hair that is frizz-prone due to the high-humidity climate of the state I reside in. I also have streaks of bleached portions that have been dyed pink. I tried out Aveda's Color Control conditioner to see if I could get a bit of a volume boost at the roots by using a silicone-free conditioner, and in my case, there wasn't much benefit to the switch. My hair felt dryer and "stringy" to the touch, leading it to require detangling (which isn't usually the case, I don't tend to have any trouble running a comb through it post shower). Each time I used this conditioner, these effects repeated.I was left wondering the following:- perhaps the chemistry of this conditioner was designed to work more effectively with the accompanying shampoo ... I have bleached, fine, curly hair and I am constantly looking for a good conditioner that won't weigh my hair down but provides a lot of moisture and this conditioner surprised me! I completely forgot how amazing Aveda products are. This conditioner performs so much better than some high end conditioners I have tried. It left my hair soft, shiny, and feeling so healthy even after just one try! I left it in for 10 minutes while I did other things and I think that made a huge difference. I only took off one star because the scent, although good, was so strong and overpowering. But it's worth it for the excellent results. Now I HAVE to try the shampoo!
This conditioner did a great job at making my hair feel smooth and soft after washing. I noticed less "bleeding" of my hair color as I was rinsing this out, and my color seemed more vibrant and shiny after a few uses. I love that this conditioner is plant based and completely vegan - so healthy for hair!My one dislike of this product is the scent. It has a very strong, perfume fragrance that is almost overwhelming as soon as you open the bottle. I typically enjoy scented hair care products but this was overpowering and didn't seem to fade away. I felt like I smelled as if I had bathed in my grandmother's perfume. If you are looking for color protection without harsh chemicals or live a vegan lifestyle, but don't mind strong fragrances then I would highly recommend ...
