I was in need of a new thermometer for our family of 5. It is now winter so colds etc are more common. I like having a good thermometer on hand for this reason. This Braun no-touch forehead thermometer is such a nice upgrade to our old ear thermometer. It is very nice quality and super simple to use. I put the two included batteries into the thermometer, pushed the power button, and placed it on my daughter's forehead in between the eyebrows. It provided a reading in seconds! You can also hold it about an inch away from that same area on the forehead to get a no-touch reading. The readings have been very accurate and consistent. This was ready to go right out of the package. Inserted the included batteries and didn't need to read any directions to use. There are pictures on the front to tell you where to position the scan on your forehead. There is a large gold dot that displays on your forehead to show where it will read. The only downside I found is that if you are taking your own temperature and looking in the mirror, the thermometer itself blocks your view in the mirror of the dot. Not that big a deal. If taking a child's temp, I don't think you would have any issue seeing the dot. The thermometer also displays colors to indicate normal temp (green), elevated (yellow) and fever (red). So far no complaints or issues, but this is a home not a doctor's office, medical facility, school, etc. so it's not like it currently or in the future will get used frequently.

This is one thing I wish our other thermometer had because you can't turn off the sound without making noise and it doesn't have a power button. So those were big plusses. It was all good until came to reading temperatures. I tried 4 different people with this thermometer and our other temperal thermometer. All of them were different. I have never had a temp of 97.2 and that's what this one is telling me VS 98.3 (always 98.3 or 98.4 when checked professionally) someone else was 99.8 but when checked with the other was 98.2Very inconsistent and off. I now have three electronic thermometers, one for the mouth, one for the ear, and this one, for the forehead. They all produce different results, but the oral one (the cheapest) usually is the most believable, meaning the result are more easily reproduceable and better correlated with symptoms or lack thereof. The ear one (middle price) is in the same ballpark but less consistent. This forehead one (most expensive) is way off. My kid recently had flu, tossing, turning, and moaning in the night. Second of all, there are bound to be small variations, but FIVE and A HALF DEGREES? And yes, I was holding it in the exact spot recommended by the manufacturer. Third of all, If the government doesn't pull this garbage off the shelf, then Target should go ahead and do everybody a favor. This is a BAD product that could lead to REAL HARM.
