Delonghi KG521M Dedica Coffee Grinder

Advertised for cheaper than the competitors. Product was in brand new condition, with all of the components including the warranty and manual. It has been used a few times since purchase and it works perfectly, allowing for the correct alteration of grind density, and adjustment of aroma. The storage compartment where the group slider doo-dah is incredibly convenient. The hopper works like a treat, haven't experienced any jamming. The burr works perfectly, the mechanism doesn't struggle when it grinds resulting in the exact density of coffee that I look for.Honestly, heck of a product.

DO NOT BUY IF YOU WANT ESPRESSO GRIND

I bought this machine on the basis of decent reviews. However it definitely doesn't grind anywhere near finely enough for an espresso machine, even on the lowest setting. In addition it doesn't hold my filter holder (which is from a different brand espresso machine) which is a much more minor gripe. I have informed Appliances Online about the issue and they directed me to De'Longhi Customer care, which is essentially Customer "non-care"-they haven't bothered to respond to my email. So I am going to appeal to Appliances Online for a refund or a different brand swap, as this machine is absolutlely useless to me.

Faulty instruction manual; good coffee grinder.

The printed instruction manual that comes with the machine states, “adjust the regulator (for fineness of grind) when the appliance is working.” This is incorrect. The online manual is correct when it instructs you to adjust the regulator before you turn on the machine. I was about to abandon the coffee grinder as I could not achieve a consistent grind until I checked the online manual. I have had no trouble since. The English translation of the manual is also confusing in that there is an adjustment for “strength” or “aroma regulation”. Great grinder.

Very impressed with this machine. It took me some time to work out how to set it to my requirements and several trial runs to get the desired results. Now it is easy. My only complaint is that the coffee grinds stick to the grounds container. (static). Makes it messy to use. Would purchase again and recommend to anyone who wants a precise grind.

I Should Have Watched The Video More Closely

I bought the KG521 after watching an SCG video.The main takeaway was this would be a suitable grinder for pressurized portafilters. I really wanted it to work because I wanted to grind directly into the portafilter and it has that adapter. It's funny, I have the same semi-auto Capresso used in the SCG video. The adapter doesn't hold the Capresso's portafilter fully so you have to hold it in place when grinding. I could live with that, but I set it to it's finest grind and I can't "choke" the portafilter just grinding fully and then tamping. I realize you don't want to choke the portafilter, but it's just doesn't grind fine enough in my opinion. I've tried it numerous times, and I'm using a heavy steel tamper. After getting frustrated I figured out a technique that works. The only way I can get a decent shot is to grind 2/3 full tamp firmly and then fill the rest to the top and tamp firmly again. I like the basic design and features, but I think I need to find a new grinder because I tried using the unpressurized portafilter and it's not even close. I assume it works better with DeLonghi pressurized baskets. It's a shame that they didn't design it to grind a little finer.

Neat & Tidy coffee grinds

Very easy to use and great options for your grind and preferred coffee style;Espresso, Filter/Biarritz and French Press. Contained system means no escaping grinds or beans. Can also blend your beans to your preferred grind. Not to noisy either.

Perfect burr grinder

Purchased to replace Kitchenaid grinder that blew. Very happy, has many grind options just perfect for stove top and coffee machine options. Coffee tastes great! Not too noisy either. Perfect accompaniment to my Dedica coffee machine which I also highly recommend!

Very good and well designed, 2 points can be improved but otherwise very happy.

very good, neat, well designed machine. Only criticism, is finest grinding setting could be a tiny bit finer just to accommodate the Delonghi Dedica which would be a bit creamier. Also, really surprising, but while you can program the grind quantity for a single shot espresso portafilter, you cannot program the button for the double portafilter. The double button simply doubles the duration of the grind, which doesn't actually match and results in overfilling. As such, for a double coffee, you'll need to manually stop when full. Other than these 2 minor points it is a very well made and good machine.

Excellent Product. We bought this to replace our old Delonghi grinder and are totally happy with it. Arrived quickly and is exactly as described. We can grind our beans exactly to our taste. Great Product and recoomend.

Well matched

This is a grinder designed to match the DeLonghi Dedica espresso machine, although it has a smaller footprint and general displacement. It can grind for plungers through to fine espresso, into a container or with easy adjustment, into the Dedica group head. There are easy to use controls, a little technology in the display and in the volume of coffee to be ground departments. At the finest setting, it grinds consistently finely, and gives a nice shot of espresso from my Dedica. Happy so far in first week of ownership. If it is as durable as my Dedica Espresso it presents as good value.
