As an avid DIY homeowner, I tend to perform most small maintenance and repair tasks around my property that others would seek a handyman service for. This reciprocating saw is not advertised as a compact design, but after using it for over a year, I can attest that it is relatively compact to fight into tight spaces. I've put this saw to work on HVAC and plumbing tasks. For example, because of the invaluable four position blade change mechanism, I was able to use this tool to cut out some rusted water closet (toilet) bolts holding my toilet bowl and water tank together, when I needed to replace the mechanical flush parts. I also used this saw to trim down HVAC tubing above my cabinet mounted microwave when I changed out my microwave. I also used this saw to trim down HVAC tubing above my cabinet mounted microwave when I changed out my microwave. The tubing was a little too long from the previous two microwaves that had been installed. I also used this saw to cut the dryer vent HVAC tubing when I replaced the tubing recently. For these tasks the saw worked well. I use this saw almost weekly to cut down large cardboard boxes from items delivered to my home. Other miscellaneous tasks I've employed this saw for have been cutting down 3/8 inch diameter rebar, wood furniture demolition, wood pallet demolition, cutting 2x4's to length, as well as plastic wheel track for my sliding patio screen door. There is some felt vibration when using this saw, but that is no different than the four other reciprocating saws I own from Dewalt and Milwaukee. This saw comes with the four position blade change mechanism which is exclusive to Dewalt reciprocating saws. Also the shoe is both pivoting and adjustable for length. There is no LED light to illuminate the work surface; for those that tend to work in dark areas you will have to plan accordingly. This is an older model for Dewalt so it is not brushless. However, it doesn't lack power to perform various tasks around the home or the jobsite. Battery life will be dependent upon the amp hour battery used with this saw. I recommend a 4 amp hour battery (DCB204) or greater (including Flexvolt batteries) for this saw. It is rather lightweight and I have used it one handed before, so I don't believe weight is an issue with this saw.Overall, this is a great saw for the homeowner and professional alike. This saw can usually be found for $100 or less from various retailers. This makes this saw and excellent value and I highly recommend it.

I'm not sure if it's the saw or the 20V batteries but this saw just doesn't cut it. When I first purchased it both batteries went dead within 10 minutes of using it. I figured maybe I had a bad batch of batteries and I contacted Dewalt who promptly delivered 2 more batteries. I had the same exact issue with these batteries as the last. That should have been my sign to return the whole setup and get something different but here I am a year later and stuck with it. I don't know if it's bad batteries, a bad saw, or just a bad setup all together. The saw cuts fine but it takes literally 4 batteries to cut 10 8x8 fence post. I have an assortment of Dewalt tools but I think this one will be my last, and nor will I recommend them any longer unless something changes with ... MoreI'm not sure if it's the saw or the 20V batteries but this saw just doesn't cut it. I bought this saw in November of 2020 and used it 2-4 times per month for window/door replacement work. As of 9-21-21 it started smoking and smells like the brushes are burnt up. It will no longer run. I would not recommend this saw if you are a professional level remodeler, this is more homeowner/not use very much saw. Better off to spend $110 on the corded version and not worry about batteries. Pretty disappointed as most of my tools are dewalt.

I am unbelievably disappointed in both the Dewalt Reciprocating Saw and 20V 5AH batteries. I have previously used this combo (cutting up branches for my fire-pit) and had no real issues. However, I had a larger project to do and they turned out to be the most despicable and worthless products on the market. The saw violently shakes and the batteries last ten minutes MAXIMUM. These tools were an enormous waste of money and I don't think I'll purchase Dewalt again. I have found better tools for free at my dump.
I have been in construction for 42 years. This sawzall performs as expected. The battery life, as written in previous reviews, is true. Have extra batteries charged. As written in previous reviews, it's a sawzall it shakes a lot. Learn how to use a Sawzall, and the shaking will stop. I do recommend this sawzall for using around the house.
Not having to lug a long extension cord around is a luxury this saw provides; as well as having 4 directions you can quickly place the blade for side to side or up/down cutting. I have two batteries and needed the second one as I was cutting a short 12" thick palm tree and the first one lasted about 10 minutes of continuous cutting. The form and fit in my hands is also quite nice - unlike previous saws I've borrowed from my neighbor that stressed my hands after a while. Be aware that this review is based on a one-time usage. Time will tell if this saw makes me forever happy.
I bought this saw because my older, 18V saw was getting tired from fifteen years of hard use. I had replaced several parts in it over the years and it served me well. It was far more economical for me to buy a new 20V saw with a battery & charger than to rebuild the old saw and buy new 18V batteries. The new saw is far more powerful and lighter in weight than the old saw and the Lithium-Ion batteries are so much better than the Ni-Cads. I am extremely pleased with it. I might add that I've been replacing all of my old 18V Dewalt tools with new 20V tools when they need to be "retired".
This is a quality product from DeWalt. It is rather lightweight, has a four position blade mechanism for cutting materials at various angles, keyless blade change, and it is very ergonomic. There is sufficient power and speed for cutting through various materials, as well as an adjustable shoe. While I'm not a professional contractor, I have used this saw for demolishing wood pallets, shelving, and fencing around my property. I only have observed a couple of negative aspects with this reciprocating saw. The first is that it drains battery power quite quickly. I would not recommend using this saw with anything less than a 4 amp hour battery. I believe this is due to the brushed motor which tends to be harder on battery life. I would not recommend using this saw with anything less than a 4 amp hour battery. I believe this is due to the brushed motor which tends to be harder on battery life. Also, debris tends to build up in the housing around the blade change mechanism. I remedy this by blasting air in this area when I am finished with my task and also add some lubricant. Otherwise, this is an all around quality cordless reciprocating saw.
Bought this in a kit awhile ago. Finally used it and the second time it started coming apart right in the middle. The yellow plastic body and the metal half are held together with 4 screws, or at least is supposed to be. When I opened it up mine was missing 3! Check the photos. No way they can fall out. Just crappy workmanship. And even if I can figure out how to fix it can I trust it? No quality control = NO! Receipt is gone so I’m stuck. Do not buy!
I've been wanting to purchase a sawzall for years but always managed to complete my projects without one. However, I had to have one for the this last project I was working on so I did my research and decided on this DeWalt 20V max cordless model. It compliments my other DeWalt tools and I trust the DeWalt brand. I would not have been able to complete the project without it and I know I will get much more use out of it in the future.
