I was very impressed with this nailer. The first thing you’ll notice when you unpack it is that it is a beast. It comes in at 8.2 pounds with the included 2.0ah battery and a coil of 1” roofing nails (by my scale). Loading the nails is pretty easy and you are ready to shoot. On the nose of the nailer is a wheel to control depth of drive. Even when on the lowest setting it embedded the heads into my test stud. I also tried it on a roof mockup of OSB and it worked better (see photo). Battery life was terrific, I shot over 100 nails (1” electro-galvanized) and it still showed full power (3 green bars on battery). Rapid fire was not a problem the nailer, it never hesitated. It is quite heavy. I don’t see it for all day use. But on a small repair job or on that ... MoreI was very impressed with this nailer. But this first generation DeWalt roofing nailer is almost a home run. B+

Set nails consistently on first project. Using it almost exclusively in the tile trade, to fasten durock on shower walls, and floors. Obviously faster than screws, and love not needing to drag in a compressor and hose, especially in those tighter bathrooms.I’ve done roofing for 4 years in the last 10; my guess is this would be fantastic for repair jobs, probably a little heavy to use all day banging out those 20-30 square roofs

I own rentals and a small property maintenance company. This 20V roofing nailer is perfect for repairs and laying down a square or so of new shingles. I don’t mind the extra weight. The convenience of not dragging a compressor and hose with me to do a repair job for outweighs any cons of this product.

If your using this product for any other applications such as flooring/wall underlayment use screws(duh),buy a flooring screwdriver! If your using cement fiber siding use a siding nailer(duh). If you think this product will be an all purpose tool for everything I recommend you change occupations for being to naive and not following installation recommendations this may void any warranties!!!
This is a great tool, works great. Only problem I have with it is that the Belt hook wasn't in the box. I'm not a roofer and use it for installing metal flashings. A belt hook is critical.
I bought this with the hopes of adding it to my Dewalt tool arsenal. First time using it this past week was for a 6’ wood privacy fence to attach the pickets. It jammed over and over. Even had a nail get lodged behind the piston and had to disassemble the whole thing. May be lacking power to shoot the nails? Going to try some other brand of nails in it to see if it helps. I was using Dewalt branded nails. If that doesn’t help plan to return.
Bought this to do flashings and punch list jobs. I'm an HVAC installer and have to install flashings all the time. When you're cold and can barely hold a nail straight to hit with a hammer, then miss and hit your fingers...you know what I mean. This eliminates this problem completely and makes nailing flashings in a breeze and only takes a few seconds. It's never going to be as fast a pneumatic and I wouldn't try to do a whole roof with it, but maybe a shed or small repair where I don't want do drag out the air tools. It's perfect for what I bought it for.
I bought this less than 2 years ago and use it for rofing repair. Since day one it started freezing by nail jamming and had to release if everytime. It happened not many times. But today with every nail it was jamming and making me nuts
I've driven about 15,000 nails with mine and have no complaints. Sometimes the coil door swings open and I have to reclose it, but otherwise no failures, no jams and no big issues. I have a bunch of dewalt 20vmax batteries already and keeping a couple batteries warm in your hoodie pocket or cargo pants pocket is a good idea, especially if you're working in cold weather, the batteries seem to drain power faster working in winter. I get about 100 nails out of the little 1.5 Ah batteries that come with the consumer drill/driver combo kits and I get about 360 nails (3 coils) out of the chunky 6 Ah battery that comes in the 2-4-6 battery kit. Those are winter numbers, temperatures near freezing. Your results may vary. The belt clip is handy but you'll want a sturdy belt ... Those are winter numbers, temperatures near freezing. Your results may vary. The belt clip is handy but you'll want a sturdy belt for it, like a wide leather one. This unit feels like about 6-7 pounds when you have a full coil and a 6 Ah battery on there. You can hold the trigger and bump nail like on a pneumatic, and that saves battery. The motor has to wind up for a moment each time you single-nail it and that costs some extra time and power, about 2 or 3 seconds. It's best to place your work and then go in three to four nail bursts per shingle with a single trigger hold. This tool is great for working where you don't have easy power or in areas where you don't want to make a lot of noise for a compressor or a nailer. This nailer is quiet compared to a pneumatic, maybe about 95dB. I'm happy with it.
The gun does not hold a full roll of coil nails making it so you need to buy dewalt brand nails. The feed fails a lot when you do not use dewalt nails. If they would fix these issues it would be great and would purchase more.
