I've been using Estwing hammers for years in construction. Although there are pneumatic nail guns now that can pretty much do anything a physical hammer can do it is always nice to have a "motivator" at your side. I typically use a 22 oz. for that work but wanted a hammer with a little less weight. Estwing in my opinion is the gold standad for every catagory, whether hammer, axe etc. Great products.

I have two of these hammers, one 16oz. and this 12oz. one. The bigger one is beefy, and I use it when I have to pound the bejesus out of something. But this little old lady reaches more for this one for picture hanging, tapping pegs in furniture assembly, etc. While I also have a tack hammer, two plastic head hammers, and a couple of dead bolt hammers, these are the best for all around use. Buy them and will them to the grandkids.

I use this for helping a subcontractor build decks and other home building work. It is a perfect weight, reliable and sturdy, and feels good in your hands! What more do you need? If you need a hammer for everyday work, then this is the hammer you need! Plain and simple!

I used this hammer while rebuilding a split cedar fence. As mentioned, it is lighter weight than a roofing hammer (easier to carry around), but also longer. I had no problem attaching 2 inch boards with ten penny nails. Estwing is a great, high quality brand and the handle absorbs the shock of pounding on a nail so your arm does not get tired when using it. I'd recommend it for any repair work you may have planned.
Lasts forever. Your kids will fight over these when you're dead and gone. I had the lighter ones (16oz) and bumped up to these bad boys - the only difference is how far that nail goes. They don't feel any heavier at the end of the day and swing super easy. They are indestructible.
This is the hammer end of story. Your grand kids could literally hand it down to their grand kids. The 16oz is superior if you know how to swing with your whole arm instead of your elbow. It won't wear your joints out like the bigger sizes and will send em home all the live long day.

It’s lightweight, well built, and the shock reduction handle is a dream for my hands.I find this to be the perfect hammer for work or household tasks. Let me tell you, this thing can take a beating! I’ve had hammers break/go on me within a year but after 3 years of solid use this one was worth every penny.I particularly like the claw on this hammer. I’m able to grab nails and pry them out with ease. Being that the hammer is one forged piece also gives it a sturdy feel when prying.I HIGHLY recommend this hammer for any carpenter, skilled or beginner!

While I'm not a professional carpenter I've been using hammers for 40 years for various projects like room additions and decks, forts, skate ramps etc. I just recently decided to install about 1000 sq' of new floors and baseboards along with new window and door trims and I figured it was a good time to get a new hammer as my kids and or wife are always using some of them too. I wanted my own. I paid the extra few dollars to get a Made in the USA Estwing and it's completely worth it. This is a great hammer. The look is nice. The design of the uppper neck into the head is both cool looking and practical by keeping the weight where you need it. I have fairly large hands but I appreciate the feel of his smaller diameter handle a lot. Buy it. While the differences may be subtle, a hammer is something you use so much the small differences add up to a big difference plus it'll last forever.
You will not find a better hammer than Estwing. The duriablity is unmatched. This 16 ounce has a great balance and swing for everyday use. (I also have the 22 ounce framing which is my favorite of their line-up.) I prefer the straight claw as I find it easier to pull nails in tight corners. The handle is the best in the industry; no question whatsoever. You will not get the hammer fatigue nearly as quickly using an Estwing
