This 8.5kg is a replacement for my broken 11 year old F&P. While some of the reviews have been middling, I have found this to be a big leap of improvement over the decade-old model. The water fill function is conservative without being too little, the wash works very well with minimal to no tangling, the spin is fantastic leaving clothes with very little water, and the time remaining display is an unexpected but awesome feature. Even the soft-close lid is a good idea! And it is much quieter than the old one. Downsides About the main thing I could say is that due to the size of the drum and efforts to keep the overall size down, the lid hinge area does come forward more than the old one meaning you do have to dig into the back to the bottom of the drum to fetch ... MoreThis 8.5kg is a replacement for my broken 11 year old F&P. But thats not a big deal in the end. All in all a very deserving 5 stars.

This model was recommended to me by a friend (who in turn was recommended it by another friend who used to sell washing machines) and my mum. They were both really happy with it, and I did use my mum's machine a couple of times at her house, and it seemed to do the job. It's easy to use, with options you can adjust. But I don't feel that it cleans properly, even though I now put less in and have the water level on high to give the clothes 'room to move'. It does spin dry effectively though. It's also noisier than I thought it would be. You can hear it clunk when changing functions, and the spin dry is noisy. I had a commercial-grade Kleenmaid for 20 years and so am used to noise, but didn't expect it from this machine. I mentioned it to the technician when he came out to fix a water flow issue (the first week I had it), and he said the noise was because of so-and-so (I can't remember what he said). I just accepted it, but the noise means I have to close the laundry and passage doors if we don't want to be disturbed in other parts of the house. It's ok if you don't have a lot of laundry to wash, or don't mind washing smaller loads, often. I don't feel you can wash a full basket of laundry effectively though.

As a previously satisfied Fisher n Paykel customer this top loading washing machine is a disappointment. I have had a number of Fisher n Paykel washing machines in the past and they have all been brilliant! Not this one though. I went into this purchase with my eyes open and read a number of disappointing reviews of this machine and I have to admit they were spot on! My twenty-year-old Fisher n Paykel top loader was so much better! If the company couldn't be bothered making improvements, why the hell did they just not stick with a tried and true product This new model washes reasonably but it is nowhere near as efficient spinning dry the wash load which still comes out damp. But worst of all, the lint is shocking! you just about have to brush down every second piece ... MoreAs a previously satisfied Fisher n Paykel customer this top loading washing machine is a disappointment. It's a nightmare! But worse still, there is an aftermarket lint filter I now have to spend $50 on just to avoid pulling my hair out after each wash!Another worrying item I read about in reviews is that there seemed to be a problem with the machine soon after the two year warranty period! I hedged my bets by taking out an extended repair warranty with the Good Guys.(I got next day delivery and removal of my - sob! -old machine, great service). Buyer be warned!

I bought this in 2018 and I found the auto water level does not put enough water in for the load - always white powder residue on clothes. After about two years, like other reviews, the machine would stop in the spin cycle and say it was off balance. I opened the lid and moved things around and at other times due to the increasing frequency of this stopping I just pressed start without opening and moving things around and it worked! Now the machine is stopping in the rinse cycle as well and saying it’s off balance and moving things around doesn’t work. It can take me 15mins of trail and error to get it to finish its cycle. On one occasion I took half the load out and spun dry in two batches to get it to work. Wouldn’t buy F&P again.
The washing I originally ordered had dents in it and there were no more of the same model available so I upgraded to another model. The lady I spoke with to arrange the upgrade was very nice and efficient. The appliance arrived very quickly, in the week prior to Easter and ensured we had a washing machine over the long weekend. I choose Appliances Online for the good price, quick delivery, taking the old machine away and installation (as stipulated online). I made sure I put the old machine on the front lawn to things easy for the delivery crew. Everything appeared to go well until my wife tried to use the machine. One of the hoses had not been attached to the washing machine or the tap. It was lying on the floor behind the machine. My wife could not use the machine ... MoreThe washing I originally ordered had dents in it and there were no more of the same model available so I upgraded to another model. My wife could not use the machine until I arrived home from work to install the hose. I will continue to use Appliances Online, but if any potential customers ask me for an honest review I would have to say you do not necessarily honour your promises, in this case installation of the machine.
Quiet, easy to use. Lid locking system doesn't allow opening at certain points but clothes can be added once bowl filled up and wash has begun. Water levels and load size can be increased even after wash has begun and water is added accordingly, which is helpful when you have misjudged size of load (still getting used to it). Still getting used to adding soap into central agitator rather than straight into load under running water as I did with the old machine. Have found that 'auto' selection for water level isn't accurate as a few times I've used it and gone back to check, the water level isn't enough, so I've had to press 'pause', select manually and water is added accordingly when start selected. 'Noise' level not any worse than old machine which we had for 29 years.... this one is hardly noticeable. Different spin cycle speeds are great on 1000rpm, clothes dry super quick on the line, even in cooler weather. Almost all washes I've used cold water with no problems. Have only ever had a top loader and considered changing to front loader this time, but glad I didn't. Hoping this one will last us a while (maybe not another 29 years !)
Have always stayed with F & P washers for past 30 years. This is my third and as far as a sturdy reliable top loader, it does everything I need it to. Wash cycle times are good, and not unnecessarily long when you need to get a lot of loads done. My previous F & P lasted 18 years. Produces a clean untangled wash, has good selection of spin speeds. I find the noise levels as the machine goes through its cycles are very acceptable. Not intrusive in the least. Very happy with this product. Glad F & P have stayed with previous washing machine cabinet sizes as it makes replacing your washer much easier when cupboards were purpose built around a previous size model. The Manual could be a little clearer as the key lock on/off function directions can be a bit confusing. Had ... MoreHave always stayed with F & P washers for past 30 years. The Manual could be a little clearer as the key lock on/off function directions can be a bit confusing. Had to Google to find out how to take key lock off. Also a bit more advice regarding types of fabric softener use or machine safe rinse aids would be helpful. Apart from that, no complaints with my new F & P top loader 8.5kg washer. Very happy I stayed with F & P.
I purchased this machine sight unseen except for what I could see on the internet. I had previously purchased a fisher & paykel front loader for my daughter and she thinks it is great and we have used fisher & paykel top loader before with no fins. However the fins on this machine rips the clothes. It has no filter and everything gets covered in fluff. I tried making my own filter by putting a bit of net curtain over bottom of where you put fabric softner in. It also and leaves clothes wet. I checked the internet and someone said after the wash has finished, if you put the machine on cold wash, set level, and select rinse and turn water off at tap it will spin. This works and the clothes are drier. However it adds 13 mins to wash. It also has the green earth wire ... MoreI purchased this machine sight unseen except for what I could see on the internet. I rang F&P in NZ and they said that is how they make them, what happens if it is accidently pulled out? We are selling and will throw this machine in the sale price for free. My fisher & paykel dishwasher is great having had 3 of these due selling and moving house.
We previously had a 7kg Hover top loader washing machine that was 20 years old, and were reluctant to change to a newer machine, but when the timer on the old machine failed and cost of replacing it was too high we decided to go the Fisher & Pykel 8.5kg Top loader. So far we've been very happy with it. While it has a larger load capacity, our new machine actually consumes less space than the old machine. Also, its a lot quieter, and does the wash is a slightly shorter amount of time. I read a number of reviews which indicated people were complaining that the Fisher & Pykel 8.5kg top loader was quiet noisy, but it was nothing like our old machine. With the old machine I could clearly hear when it had finished a load, and then knew to hang it up, but with the new machine, its quiet enough that I don't hear it or know that its finished the load, and I sometimes forget a load was being done. when researching the machine, the thing I was a little concerned about was how sensitive the touch controls would be, and if I'd need to really press hard on them. I was really pleasantly surprised to see that they were very sensitive, much like touching a control on an IPhone. I also really like the slow close lid, which prevents accidental slamming. Overall, there's nothing I can complain about. I'd happily buy this machine again.
We upgraded from a 10-year-old Fisher and Paykel top loader to this machine. Our previous machine was a bit bigger and possibly had more features than the basic one at the time. I researched this machines features compared with the higher-priced models, and I even spoke to a washing machine mechanic I had used for my old Fisher and Parker machine. He recommended this model Series 5 as all I needed to do the job. He said I didnt need the higher-specced model - series 7This new one has an agitator that the old machine didnt have.
