I've worn plenty of silicone watch bands from cheaper watches and those never broke.

As an owner of the original Fossil Sportwatch I was eagerly anticipating this release. It has not disappointed me!It is a smart and (in my opinion) a very stylish watch that, with the right amount of customisable faces, allows it to change it's appearance in a mere few swipes. The battery lasts a full and proper day (24hrs), although I choose to not wear it at night, so even in normal mode I can get two days out of it in between charges.Speaking of charging, the newer double ring connections allow the watch to find the dock pretty easily but be aware there is are two small gaps at '12' and '6' where if you place the charger it won't charge your watch.Charge times are pretty fast so whilst there are better smartwatches in terms of battery life, it's not a ... MoreAs an owner of the original Fossil Sportwatch I was eagerly anticipating this release. Android Wear OS 2 is ok, and everything I use it for works well and smoothly. I am however very much looking forward to seeing more functionality arrive with the release of Wear OS 3.There are a few functions that I didn't use as much as I thought I would, such as the blood oxygen sensor but had this been in the summer with more time to exercise, I may have utilised it more. The notifications are great though and I have found actually answering calls on my wrist far more natural and practical than I ever thought I would.I did use it for tracking my walking, running and cycling and I found it to be pretty accurate., it was giving my very similar data to others in my running group who were wearing dedicated sports watches so for the price difference I was very pleased!I think this style fits those with medium to large wrists and arms, and even with my big hands, the hard buttons are easy to use and the screen is an ok size to perform 99% of all the tasks (texting is quite tricky, but you can use the assistant to overcome this - or just reply on your phone). There is some software on there that I would remove such as some of the third party watch face apps - but the play store can help you manage all of that and more. For the price point, I think this is a very strong recommendation, with all the different styles available I think there is absolutely one out there for you.

Absolutely would buy again.

I watched a you tube to get started but most of it is learned through using. Having a Gen 5 helps a lot, but starting from scratch requires some patience. I found it worth the effort.

Exceeded my expectations

I had a Wear OS smart watch about 3 years ago, but had stopped wearing it when I switched to a dedicated sports watch, so was keen to see how things had improved since, especially as this is a relatively high-end watch. The set up process is standard WearOS setup and straightforward. Once setup it is a pleasure to use. The screen is bright, crisp and responsive. There could however be more guidance on setup - ideally by a link in the quickstart guide to a set of webpages to show first-timers how to install apps & custom watch faces, change settings, etc. Without that there could easily be many users failing to make the most of the watch by not customising it to their liking and not taking advantage of the wealth of apps available.I tried out Google Pay and it is ... MoreI had a Wear OS smart watch about 3 years ago, but had stopped wearing it when I switched to a dedicated sports watch, so was keen to see how things had improved since, especially as this is a relatively high-end watch. The set up process is standard WearOS setup and straightforward. There could however be more guidance on setup - ideally by a link in the quickstart guide to a set of webpages to show first-timers how to install apps & custom watch faces, change settings, etc. Without that there could easily be many users failing to make the most of the watch by not customising it to their liking and not taking advantage of the wealth of apps available.I tried out Google Pay and it is very easy to setup and use. One of the watch buttons is setup by default to open Google Pay (although the default app can be changed in settings), and it is just a case of tapping to pay. Security-wise the watch remains unlocked when it is on your wrist, but when you take it off or put it on again you must unlock the screen so your payment methods (and other things) are secure.Despite being fairly small, the keyboard is large enough to be able to reply to text or other messages from the watch. The big uncertainty with smartwatches is battery life. After wearing this at home for a couple of days and the battery lasting very well the following day I walked to work and the battery level plummeted. After much trial and error over a number of days I isolated the cause as having location turned on within the Google Fit app - turning that off has restored battery usage to a sensible level so that it comfortably lasts a day.It is also worth mentioning the very fast charging, meaning that if you wear it overnight because you want to sleep track you can then put in on to charge and by the time you've had a shower and breakfast it will be ready for another day.I have also used the Strava app to do a comparison of the GPS tracking against my dedicated sportswatch, and was pleasantly surprised. GPS did eat through the battery, as would be expected (25-30% in an hour), but the recorded track looks very accurate on the map and was within about 0.5% of the distance recorded by my sportswatch over 10k.All in all this is a very good smartwatch. When the new version of WearOS comes, which it should do mid 2022, it is expected to improve battery management, which will make it great!

Gorgeous design with frustrating experience

I owned this watch for 2 years now and I have a love hate relationship with it, it looks great, does what I need it to do, but the experience is really poor.Functionality wise it does everything I need it to do, when it works it's great and I really love that it looks like a normal watch unlike the apple watch which looks like something from a Happy meal. Now comes the bad parts: battery life is terrible, it used to last a full day at the beginning but now I can barely get it through the day.It doesn't have wireless charging so I can't use my phones reverse wireless charging to recharge through the day or be able to charge it without carrying the cable with me, the charger very often doesn't make proper contact so I wake up with a dead watch even though it was ... MoreI owned this watch for 2 years now and I have a love hate relationship with it, it looks great, does what I need it to do, but the experience is really poor.Functionality wise it does everything I need it to do, when it works it's great and I really love that it looks like a normal watch unlike the apple watch which looks like something from a Happy meal. Now comes the bad parts: battery life is terrible, it used to last a full day at the beginning but now I can barely get it through the day.It doesn't have wireless charging so I can't use my phones reverse wireless charging to recharge through the day or be able to charge it without carrying the cable with me, the charger very often doesn't make proper contact so I wake up with a dead watch even though it was sitting on the charger all night.Bluetooth turns itself off sometimes for no reason and I have to go into the settings to re enable it (daily mode is set to have it on by default, and yet it keeps turning off)A watch should be for life and yet this feels like an expensive disposable product (like all electronics nowadays), I hope future iterations will fix this, aswell as to make improvements to the above problems.I would recommend it only because this is where technology is at right now, even though it has it's issues as of right now it's one of the nicest smart watches, and in the end it is jewelry so it has to look good

I really like the aesthetics of the watch, and the functionality, when it works. The watch was awesome when I could get it to charge and work. Their smart watch with the funky charging prongs, horrible battery, horrible heating issue, and now it doesn't turn on after being on the charger. I have to warn others that this watch is a pass. If you are looking for a smart watch, do not go with this one. You will feel the remorse, like I have in time. Sadly, the money spent on it, I really feel the remorse.

There are burn marks on it, and no longer chargers the watch. incredibly unsafe hazard that any company that cares about their products and customers would want to know about right?I again, reached out to fossil, in the hope of it being under warranty or even purchasing a new charger. It has been almost 2 weeks and I havent heard anything.small issues can happen with these products, but the awful customer service means i will no longer buy Fossil products, and am trying to sell this watch second hand.

10 April 2024

I'll start by saying, I've had a fossil smart watch since gen-2 came out and have been upgrading with every second generation. I've loved the way they look, feel and function. But ever since Fossil changed over from the Google Wear OS, to their own Fossil Smartwatch app, there has been nothing but problems. Connectivity is a joke, I'm reconnecting my watch to my phone several times per day. I've reinstalled the app, factory reset the watch and paired it with my phone, etc, and it's still a constant issue. It doesn't give phone call notifications until after my phone has stopped ringing and gone to VM, even simple features like the alarm are now difficult to access. Sometimes the screen with come up for me to snooze or turn off the alarm, but rarely. It doesn't give phone call notifications until after my phone has stopped ringing and gone to VM, even simple features like the alarm are now difficult to access. Sometimes the screen with come up for me to snooze or turn off the alarm, but rarely. Most of the time, I have to navigate my way through to get it to turn off. Excellent thing to do when it goes off while driving. I keep my sound turned off, as the pitch of the notification bell is uncomfortable, but at random points in time, the notification bell will turn itself on to remind me just how awful that sound is. And battery life is a complete wild card. Some days I'll get a full 15+ hours out of it. Other days I'll be about 4. This will be the last Fossil Smartwatch I buy. I'm no longer going to pay for the absolute frustration and anger this causes. Whatever their update was to the OS, it completely ruined the product. Save your money. Buy any other smartwatch, or stick with fossil's regular fashion watches.

The Fossil FTW4059, a good looking smart watch.
7 December 2021

I received this watch to write an honest an unbiased review. The watch itself looks very appealing in the image and did not disappoint when delivered. the metal strap and case are good quality and add a good weight to the watch so you know you have one on. The watch itself operates on the google wearables app and setting this up is pretty quick and easy using my IOS device. It also works alongside my other IOS based smartwatch. I have not used google wear before and it seems quite simple and plenty of settings can be changed so this gives the watch a fair amount of functions. The watch will take calls and speaker volume and microphone are ok for a small device but obviously not the same as the handset the call has come in on. The watch will take calls and speaker volume and microphone are ok for a small device but obviously not the same as the handset the call has come in on. What impresses me most with the watch is the overall quality with the metal strap and it’s clasp. The screen also provides good resolution and downloadable screens allow you to customise the face. The only concern I have found is the ability to change font size as being slightly older without glasses reading some content is difficult. The notifications from phone have so far all worked well and I have the usual apps installed for social media and a number of smart security products all of which have notifications that display on the screen. The charger is a standard magnetic disc that locates securely on the back and doesn’t fall off easily like some versions from other manufacturers I have experienced. Buttons have standard functions and touch screen is accurate and supports swipe features. The pulse meter seems to match my other smartwatch so would assume is accurate and oxygen monitor seems to work but obviously couldn’t guarantee accuracy. So this watch in my opinion does everything competitors watches do and has the quality look, feel and weight of a more traditional watch but with the added advantage of giving all the smart features such as physical tracking, notifications from phone, take calls from watch and makes calls. The final question is value for money at £299 I would say this is the upper limit but still fair but hopefully with sales if you can pick it up for less then you are getting a good deal.

Wear OS3 removes my favorite things about this watch--WHY???
18 October 2023

It's a great watch. I really liked that all the buttons were easy to press and the crown spun easily. The problem is the Wear OS 3 update. When I received it with the Wear OS 2 installed, it was amazing. When it upgraded to Wear OS 3, nearly ALL of my favorite features of the watch were gone, such as: I can't dismiss/snooze phone alarms, I can't skip to the next song on Pandora, the timer function uses the horrible old style "rotating" minute selector instead of the perfect clock-looking selector, you can't customize the physical buttons to be exactly what you want them to be (only the bottom one) and in order to activate customizations you have to double-press or hold the button, the flashlight function doesn't use full brightness and has a faded edge, no good ... MoreIt's a great watch. Seriously--I can't use this any more. I felt such joy putting my old Carlyle HR back on, even though the battery doesn't last half a day anymore. Getting on eBay now to find another Carlyle. So disappointing, Google! This watch is being returned.
