This is a fantastic direct sunlight film. I shot six rolls in direct sunlight on a beach vacation, and wow these shots came out dynamic, full of information, no blown highlights or underexposed shadows, really perfect. Lovely fine grain. Blacks came out black, not green. That surprised me the most, after having used the crummy Xtra 400 film. This is nothing like Xtra 400. Fujifilm 200 worked really well for colors, gave true to life colors, beautiful bold blue skies behind detailed lovely shadow regions in the foreground. I overexposed by a half to a full stop, and I used a good, well-trusted film processing lab that has a nice scanner, and I think that helped. But, hey, for the price, Ill have trouble ever deciding to ever buy Portra 160 again when Fujifilm 200 is ... MoreThis is a fantastic direct sunlight film. I am learning how to use a camera for the first time and so these have been my go to and they have no disappointed as a newbie! I went to a concert where at the time I hadn't learned that I should be using flash most of the time, but the color and light still popped out pretty well for evening pictures I took at the concert! Nice to use as you're starting out.

I've shot this film a lot since 2018, and I've always loved the colors it produces. As I home develop my film with lab-grade chemicals (Kodak Flexicolor), I usually push process this film two stops (5:30 at 100°F). As with all films from Fujifilm, reciprocity failure corrections are well documented, and in my tests, have always been accurate. Grain, while always there, is never distracting or obtrusive. As this film seems to be based off an old formula, it scans best (If you have the profile) as Fuji Super HQ 200, with colors that seem pretty true to life. I always keep a dozen rolls on standby, as this film, despite being the cheapest on the website, is incredibly easy to shoot and scan, and is a film that you won't regret using for important shots.

It's no secret that this film is just repackaged Kodak Gold 200. I'm fine with that, especially since this is usually cheaper and more available than Kodak Gold branded film. I like the more subtle saturation, the contrast, the grain, and the tones of this film better than Fuji 400. Pretty much everything about this film is better than Fuji 400 (Kodak UltraMax) which I found to be an oversaturated, contrasty film with messy grain. But Fuji Gold, as I call it, is a pretty good film. It's a nice alternative to the more pricey Portra line.
Fuji C200 is a solid consumer film; perfect for casual shooting. I usually use it for landscapes (especially in the snow) because of its perfect black value. It handles high contrast scenes very well, capturing true blacks instead of underexposed grain mud. The saturation is usually much stronger in green and magentas, but still renders white surfaces (like snow) naturally. Even though this has normal grain, it is quite fine and won't distract from the images.
B&H has the best price for film on the internet. Fuji 200 is good for testing out new cameras or playing around with double exposures. Don't have to worry too much about messing anything up since its cheap, and its also pretty forgiving about under/over exposure so you can play with exposure bracketing to get a good feel for your camera and meter.
5 stars because this is the best deal for color 35mm film.Be aware, though: This is not Fuji C200. Fuji quit making all their 35mm print film; hopefully, they'll eventually start again. This is almost definitely rebranded Kodak Gold 200, which has blockier %26 more orange/red biased tones than real Fuji C200, which rendered brilliant emerald greens and silvery blues. This is not actually that film even though they're using the old photo, so shoot accordingly.
I reviewed this film a few years back saying how natural the color was, but after further review I found that this film does lack in the greens. I'm now far more interested in saturation than I was back then and here is a more detailed review based on various colors.. Reds: The reds on this film are very strong. Reds are bright. Copper/brown: Copper colors are very strong and really pop out. Browns are shifted toward red slightly and are made to pop out. Yellow: Yellow is natural toward dull. They can be pulled up a bit by cranking up the saturation in post processing, more advanced techniques could help more. Pull it up too far and the reds are too strong. Green: Green on this is quite weak. A quick saturation tweak can fix this in post depending on your skills. Unadjusted the saturation is poorer than an entry level DSLR. Blue: Toward the blue end of the spectrum it is a bit weak leaning toward natural. I wouldn't tweak this too much in post either, blue will be good if you turn up enough to make yellow good, but again be careful to not overdo the red.
Fuji ASA 200 film does not disappoint. It is a film I highly recommend for both beginners and more experienced photographers. This 35mm film is also great for use in compact cameras. Being of intermediate speed, it performs well in various lighting situations. Of course, we all know that if we want much finer grain and have favorable lighting conditions, we would use ASA 100. And if we have lower light conditions, we would need ASA 400. Ultimately, getting three rolls at this price is a very good deal.
Is this film just Kodak Gold 200? Maybe. But I’d also be surprised if Kodak Alaris (who owns the right to distribute Gold 200?) would let Fujifilm contract Kodak to produce the exact same formula. But for all intents and purposes, it feels Gold-ish. It seems perfect exposed right at 200, but opening up half a stop for shadows looks great too. Greens and browns look great, and the color balance is like warm sunlight. Contrast is lower than Ektar 100, another slow film. It does not look right if you color correct Fuji 200 scans to be too neutral or cold. It gets weirdly blue/cyan. Also the film is really sharp, but I haven’t done a side by side test with Gold 200 so perhaps that’s a 200 speed benefit in itself. All in all, an excellent film for the price.
