The outstanding performance of the Fujifilm X-E1 requires a Lens that meets numerous demanding conditions. Foremost among these are optical performance and resolution to match the uncompromising image quality of the X-Trans CMOS sensor. In addition, the Lens must be able to optimally adjust to the requirements of each scene. The new, lightweight Fujinon zoom lens XF18-55mm F2.8-4 R LM OIS invites you to take the X-E1 anywhere. It boasts powerful features such as a wide F2.8 aperture, image stabilization that effectively achieves up to four EV stops, and built-in high-speed contrast autofocus that captures the subject with minimal delay in just 0.1 seconds. The Fujinon XF18-55mm F2.8-4 R LM OIS zoom lens is a masterpiece of optical technology. It consists of 14 elements in ten groups, including three aspherical lenses and one ED lens, and features seven aperture blades that create a nearly circular aperture. This allows for a very harmonious "bokeh" across the entire aperture range for all Lenses. This versatile zoom lens with a focal length range of 18-55 mm (27-84 mm, equivalent to KB) allows the photographer to respond perfectly to a wide range of situations. It is very easy to carry around thanks to its compactness, and the fast autofocus driven by linear servo motors allows comfortable shooting even in difficult and demanding situations.

Best "kit lens" I've ever handled. Build quality and image quality are quite nice. It's a little more plastic-y feeling than other XF lenses but over all it's the best money to performance balance of the Fuji standard zooms. Unless you're a pro willing to shell out the big money for the constant f2.8 version, this lens is an excellent compromise. (I would argue image quality is similar, you just lose a couple stops of light on the zoom side.) One thing to note, this lens probably won't be good for video. Even when stopped down to f4, when zooming you can see the brightness changing (as if the aperture were changing). For stills though, this is probably the best bang for your buck standard zoom in fujis line up.

Having worked with 18-55 kit lenses from Nikon, Canon, Sony and Fujifilm, I rate this lens the best for a number of reasons. Its quality of construction and great damping of rings for just the right resistance and responsiveness immediately impressed me. It's a half-stop faster than the usual f/3.5 wide open, and a full stop faster f/4 at 55mm. Its sharpness rivals 35mm and 50mm prime lenses I've had from Nikon. For an APS-C lens it has pleasant enough, though not great bokeh (slight "onion" effect). The only discouraging thing about this lens is the high cost when purchased separately (still $699 retail). After a few hundred photos on my X-E2S I'm still pleasantly surprised at its results at all focal lengths and apertures. This Fujinon 18-55mm f2.8-4.0 lens is deserving of its fine reputation. Its versatile range is equivalent to 27-83mm on a full-size sensor, which is close enough to the 24-105mm f4 that has long been a favorite of mine on Canon bodies. The f2.8 aperture at the wide end of its range is a plus, while the f4.0 at the upper portion is still fast enough for my purposes. As for handling, this is a compact and light optic that makes it an ideal walk-around lens, with accurate and smooth aperture, focusing and zoom rings. It produces sharp images with accurate color rendition in the great majority of picture-taking situations, but I have experienced an inordinate level of flare whenever I shoot with a bright sun in the background, even with the hood attached. This lens is very well made and produces excellent images. On a Fuji X-S10 it makes a compact package, light and comfortable to handle. I only wish it were a little longer, but I knew its focal length when I bought it, and I'm very happy with it. It stays on my camera almost full time. For the price and focal range, it's clearly one of the best places to start in the Fuji system, and it has made me eager to get more Fujinon glass.
There are lots of positive reviews on the Internet about this lens. It's a fujinon kit lens, which is as capable as many pro level zoom lenses. The image quality is great and the optical image stabilization is very impressive, especially when shooting video. Overall, this is a GREAT all purpose lens that covers a wide variety of photography subjects, including landscapes, portraits, and candid shots. It's lightweight, so you can carry it anywhere without feeling the fatigue of heavy DSLR equipment. If you have the money, I recommend adding this one to your lens collection.
The Fuji 18-55 is said to be a kit lens and so the idea of kit needs to be changed. Usually kit lenses are the lenses that have good but not great image quality, focus speed and all the other lens measurements. The 18-55 is different in that it is a near great lens with most things needed to make it a lens to need to own. This lens is a great video lens. The Linear Motor (LM) in it makes for a very smooth focus with almost no "focus breathing". It does not suffer as badly as the 16-80 in video when changing zoom of the focusing. It is just smooth as butter. The 16-80 lens is a great photography lens but is an OK video lens. The 18-55 is a great video lens and an OK photography lens. The size of the 18-55 is about half the size of the 16-80 which means that the 18-55 is just the right size if I am carrying the camera around all day. I also have the 16-55 2.8 and I use that every once in a while. It is too big and heavy so it sometimes sits but I won't sell it. Of those three lenses....the 18-55 is on my X-T4 more often than not.
This is a better-than-expected zoom lens and I might give it five stars except that I don't really like zooms. Have always preferred to work with a combination of 21mm and 85mm lenses, skipping the "normal" focal lengths in between, but sometimes you have to bow to reality (at birthday parties, graduations, etc.) where friends and family just want normal. I use the 18-55mm on a Fuji X-e3 and must admit that the image-stabilization, which Fuji's fixed-length lenses lack, can come in handy. Autofocus is quick and accurate. Feels a bit heavy on that small camera body but no more so than the fastest prime lenses in the lineup.
I own the Fuji 16-55mm zoom, which is why I got rid of the first 18-55mm I owned. I'm not a huge fan of variable aperture lenses, but Fuji does make two of the best I have ever used. The 18-55 is one of them. Truthfully, I could have lived without the second copy of this lens but I own the X-T2 (I have or have owned most of the Fuji X cameras) which is a fantastic video camera besides a stills camera. It has no stabilization though, so a friend lent me his 18-55 with the OiS stabilization and I found the 18-55 to be the perfect all around focal length PLUS the Ois feature really made the pictures super smooth! It was like night and day. The 18-55 holds its own in sharpness and IQ. I do like the 16-55 2.8 more for my use. I'm a full time photographer and I just use the 2.8 side often at all focal lengths and the 16-55 is sharper but not by much. For much work not involving a prime lens, the 18-55 would suffice. For travel its way better than the 16-55. Smaller, lighter. I have issues with the lens hoods on both copies but Fuji does a terrible job on lens hoods anyway, sans the extra expensive hoods for the 16mm and 23mm. The 18-55 is a solid lens. If you need a zoom for video with a Fuji camera, there really is no other choice.
I have had this lens 3 times. The first time I sold it because I wanted a prime and Everybody said that primes are better, so I fell in the trap. So the second time I got it for very cheap, and I decided to give it a try again, and I fell in love with it, this lens is super versatile and very sharp with nice bokeh (for a 2.8-4 zoom lens). The IOS is very good, the construction is very good as well, it doesnt matter if its Japanese or Philippine I have had both and all are equal in every sense. Time passed and life happened and had to sell it again due a personal debt. And I thought I could live without it, I was wrong and once I recovered I bought it again even cheaper than last occasion. This time Im going to keep it. People that think this is not a good lens its because they are comparing it to others expensive lenses, I think is not fair. For what you pay for it used or in kit with a camera, you get an excellent lens for that price. I know the 16-55 2.8 is better in every aspect, but it also costs a lot more and it lacks on what is important for me, Size, the ability to carry this lens everywhere. Judge this lens for what it costs and for what it was designed. This is my favorite lens for the entire fujifilm system (From the ones I have tried). Thank god this is a very common lens and you can find it very easily on the used market. Is it for you?, I dont know, but you might want to give it a try, and just dont spect it to behave like a 1.4 prime lens, be logical.
I'm mainly a still photographer, a huge fan of prime lenses. But when I got an X-T3, I wanted a zoom lens for ease with simple video shoots. So I started looking for one, understanding the lens speed vs convenience trade-off. I'm quite surprised at the image quality of this basic kit lens. It is also pretty durable, and affordable when bought used. I'm finding myself using this lens for many still shots (along with video), and at this point the lens pretty much resides on the camera!
