Distinguished by its slender form factor, the FUJIFILM XF 18mm f/2 R is a wide-angle 27mm-equivalent prime featuring a bright f/2 maximum aperture. The compact size and general wide field of view make this lens well-suited to everyday shooting, as well as for landscapes and street photography. The optical design incorporates a pair of aspherical elements, which reduce distortion and spherical aberrations in order to realize greater sharpness and accurate rendering. A Super EBC coating is also featured, which reduces flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy. Prime wide-angle lens is designed for APS-C-format FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 27mm equivalent focal length. Bright f/2 maximum aperture suits working in difficult lighting conditions and also affords greater control over depth of field. Pancake form factor measures less than 1.6"-thick for an ultra-portable, versatile design. Two aspherical elements limit distortion and spherical aberration in order to realize greater sharpness and accurate rendering. Super EBC coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions. Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

The Fujifilm XF 18mm F2 is one of the oldest lenses in the Fuji canon of lenses. It has been superseded and at times overlooked but its a gem. The images are sharp, it focuses well and the focal length is great for both street and landscape photography. Its also one of the most affordable of XF lenses. Go out and get one; you wont be disappointed!

I could live on only a 28mm equivalent prime and often do, especially on my Ricoh GR and Ricoh GR3 (both of which I still highly recommend). So it seemed to make a lot of sense to pick up this lens up for my Fuji XT2, especially given its size and weight. But it just never delivered the images I was looking for - I found this Fuji 18mm to lack sufficient contrast and sharpness wide open, and when stopping down, things didn't improve enough to make the lens worth holding on to. Autofocus on this lens never quite had the hit rate that I was looking for either. I eventually sold this lens off and wouldn't buy it again. Fuji - if you're listening, this 18mm is overdue for a significant redesign!

Pros: Excellent build quality in a reasonably small package. Giving exceptional image quality, the lens is fast to focus and very quiet. For an everyday lens that performs brilliantly for everything from portraits, street and landscapes. The lens will not disappoint. Super lens!Cons: Nothing! The lens is simple superb.

Love this little lens

I hesitated between this and the XF27mm as I wanted something small and discreet. As my intended use was all-purpose travel, I decided to go wider and get the extra f/stop for the increased possibilities of handheld photography in low light. I had read many reviews complaining about distortion, and to check I went to Flickr and 500px, searching for Fuji xf18mm and cityscapes. When I was able to verify that two shots were of the same scene, one highly distorted and the other not, It became clear that it was the positioning of the focusing plane with respect to the subject that made all the difference in apparent distortion. Used with care, this lens produces minimal distortion. That care just involves 5 extra seconds looking at what you're seeing in the viewfinder or on the LCD screen before pressing the shutter. The lens also works well for quick shooting: autofocus is fast and accurate. I love that it focuses so closely, which makes it great for discreet available light travel shots of food in restaurants. When taking pictures of people against an iconic tourist background, or when taking environmental portraits, you need to take care to be far enough away to not introduce distortion on faces. Again, if you play with the angle of the focusing plane, even when you cannot back up further, you can reduce distortion before shooting. With that one caveat--look before you click--you will love the images created by this lens. Sharp edges, beautiful color and contrast. Just head to a photo sharing site and see for yourself. P.S. If you use a protector filter, get the Fuji one. It has the most beautiful glass I have ever seen in a filter, and it is amazingly static-fee. I almost never have to use a lens cloth on it.

My Wedding Wide Angle Answer
18 October 2021

I purchased this lens to marry up with my brand new FujiFilm Mirrorless X-S10. I use this as my third camera in my wedding shoots. I currently use a DSLR with a 50mm 1.4 prime as the main camera, and another DSLR with a prime 105mm for portraits, and as my second camera. I'm determined that I will no longer use Zooms due to their weight and restrictive aperture. But I needed to cover the tighter wider shots without changing lenses, I have a phobia about dust control and don't want to be changing lenses half way throughout a ceremony. So this is the perfect solution for me. The lens is bright, sharp, and I love the ability to change the aperture on the lens, even though this lens is so small. It just doesn't get in the way and attached to the mirrorless Fuji camera it just fits in my pocket alongside the other two cameras that are hanging on a holster under my armpits. A really worthwhile investment for me. Oh and by the way, it is the sublime travel and street camera / lens combo.

Far better to shoot than the reviews would lead you to believe. Very usable focal length. Perfect size for an XPro or X-E street rig.Is it soft at f/2? Yes.Does its price exceed its aesthetic qualities? A bit, yeah.Is it fun to take out and shoot? Absolutely.Hey, plus it's the same focal length as the Leica Q family. Good way to see if you really want to upgrade...

Size is the Thing

This lens is ridiculously small. If you like wide primes, and you like to keep weight and bulk down for street photography or travel, this things is awesome. The major caveat here is that the autofocus system is deeply sub-par; it is accurate but slow, and horrendously loud, and the manual focus ring is sloppy and imprecise, as well as being tiny and difficult to operate. This renders this lens pretty much useless for video, which is a huge drawback for hybrid shooters like myself.I own two Fujifilm zooms that cover this focal range, the 10-24 and the 16-80, and both not only utterly whip the focus performance of this lens, they also best it for low light performance thanks to the OIS stabilization features. Optically, I think the 10-24 is my favorite of the three at 18mm. However, both of those zooms are four times the size and weight of this prime, and neither can produce that lovely f2 depth of field.I like this lens, but it fills a very narrow niche for me as a still street-shooter/travel rig. If this is your thing, go for it! But if you are looking for maximum versatility, I would advise you to look elsewhere. For me the clattery, slow autofocus really limits the use I get out of this lens.

Useful lens, sent quickly and in good condition
25 February 2022

This is am old 18mm Fuji lens. It isn't weather sealed, and its autofocus is slow, and the autofocus mechanism is noisy. It may be the least loved Fuji X lens. There is an expensive f 1.4 available, and a new version of the lens is scheduled for release in 2022. That said, the lens autofocus works adequately on my X-Pro 3. The images are sharp and whatever limits the lens has, hasn't affected its usefulness or stopped it from being a fun lens to use. I have never had an 18mm prime lens before. This is a great compact lens for street photography and for its under 300 price, it is worth it. The lens arrived about a week after I ordered it, it was well-packed and looked brand new.

Worth every penny
11 January 2016

I recently purchased the 18mm f/2.0 as my first prime lens to use with the Fuji XT-10. I would highly recommend this lens to other customers. As someone who travels a great deal and also shoots architectural models, size is a great concern. The 18mm, while not quite a pancake, is quite small and perfectly proportioned for Fuji's mirrorless range. It is hefty without being heavy - belying its tight, all-metal construction - and feels great in-hand. The construction is solid throughout, and the mechanics are very smooth and precise. with a few caveats. The aperture ring snaps pleasingly at 1/3 increments, but I find it easier to turn the ring from some hand positions than others. The manual focus ring turns smoothly and is very satisfying. However, it will turn continuously even when you are beyond the focal range of the lens; I with that it would stop at either end of the lens' limitation. There is, occasionally, a small rough patch when turning the focus ring, but this has no real bearing on performance. The lens focuses quickly and is a perfect compliment to the updated suite of autofocus options in the X-Series lineup. The 18mm gives you an effective range 27mm with the Fuji's cropped sensors, which is quite a pleasing range for street, architectural and indoor photography. It makes a nice standard lens especially when traveling. Images are crisp across the frame, bright, and the lens performs better than I could have expected in low-light. I stick mostly to the f/2.0 for its shallow depth of field which, while not best-in-class, is quite pleasing. The package comes with a lens hood and two accompanying lens caps (for the hood and lens body). The lens body hood is plastic with a squeeze release which is a little on the small side, and I am not convinced of its stability. The lens hood cap is a rubbery plastic that I prefer, but it fell off of my lens on the second day so I cannot speak highly of its grip.
