It's not hard to empty, but it gets on my nerves after a while.Second, I do not like that the machine fails to recognize when you have enough beans or water to make a selected drink. I find that I have been making a lot of milk drinks with the wand instead of the carafe.Fifth, if you want a good espresso, you definitely need to play around with the grind size. When I first got the machine, I was immediately disappointed with the first espresso shot. But after some tweaking with the grind size and the flow control, I got the best I could hope for from a superauto.Sixth, I do think sometimes it takes a long time for the steam wand to heat up, which is probably a consequence of a single boiler. All and all it is a great machine and I like it more than the Jura E8 and Gaggia Cadorna I previously owned.

It's very straight forward and the machine will prompt you when need to do certain things like fill water, empty puck and drip tray etc. Compared to other machines out there, cleaning the milk carafe is easy. The machine will automatically do it for you after use. The thing I like too is that you can store the carafe with milk inside the fridge, super convenient.Accademia will not disappoint!

Honestly, their service is what pushed me to 4 stars.-The coffee is flavorful for a superauto and the machine is well built. I like the modern glass front and the solid metal body.-The interface is nice with on the fly adjustments that are responsive.Negatives:-Biggest negative is that the internal drip tray requires emptying multiple times per day even though we are only making 3 or 4 coffees daily. If it fills up in the middle of a recipe, good luck on finishing the drink once disrupted. This is the same when it runs out of water in the middle of a recipe. Frustrating that it doesn’t know it needs water or emptying before brewing.-Coffees are not hot enough - not even close on the highest setting.-You can program the cup warmer to come on automatically, but not the machine. This is counter intuitive for me. I want the machine to turn on and be ready to make coffee but there’s no way to do that. The result is a painfully slow experience. If you make a double shot drink with any milk froth, you are in for a wait as the machine warms up, rinses, warms up again between each shot and the milk froth followed by a cleaning cycle for the frothier. It’s faster than pulling shots manually but it’s not nearly quick enough coming from the convenience of an espresso system, especially if you are pressed for time.-The machine is tall - if it’s under a set of top cabinets with normal US kitchen cabinet heights, you will need to physically move the machine to add beans or water. With a relatively small reservoir, you will be doing this often and it’s a pain.Overall, I’m happy enough to keep the machine and am enjoying it overall but I thought at the premium price tag these quirks should have been addressed especially since some of this feedback was out there for the previous generation Accademia.

Great machine

To start I have only had this machine for a few days however it replaced the older Gaggia Accademia (which started having issues after about 13,000 cappuccinos). I primarily drink cappuccinos from 4 to 6 every morning. The new one has an option for an XL version and I can make 5 from one full milk carafe. I agree that the internal drip tray is small but I can get at least 4 drinks done without emptying it. It really depends on how much time is between cups. If the machine shuts down then the rinse cycles will fill up the tray faster. I do not use the milk cleaning system after every cup I only use it when I finish for the day. I found if you ignore the request to clean the milk carafe it just goes away after a few seconds. If you have 30+ minutes between cups you may want to clean it after each but I usually finish all 5 in about an hour. then clean the carafe and turn off the machine for the day.One of the nice surprises I found was that the coffee dispenser is thinner on the new model and leaves a gap in the back which better accommodates my preferred cup. The screen is also very nice and makes selecting your coffee a bit more intuitive. Additionally, the screens show many of the settings for a drink on the screen when making it which I think will help a lot when making drinks for others. I have been slowly dialing in the settings to what is the perfect cappuccino for me. It is nice if I ever have to share this regularly with someone else I can have multiple versions of each drink setup. which I could not do with the old machine. The only minor issue I have had is the top load on the water and beans is not ideal due to my cabinets but that was known going in. To mitigate that I set the machine on a tray and put felt sliders under it so I can slide it easier. That also allows the tray to catch any mess when/if it occurs. This was a huge deal when my old machine started to leak water and prevented water from going everywhere. My wife thinks the machine is a bit noisy but she has said that about every espresso machine I have had. Hopefully, in the new house, it will be a little further away so she won't notice it as much while sleeping.I am happy I bought the newer version but if you are concerned about the price the older one is a fine machine and seems to be available cheaper. For me though I like newer tech and I really like the ease of customizing drinks. Overall getting your own machine is a big upfront cost but overtime is a huge savings. Based on my calculations for the machine, coffee beans, and milk it costs me less than fifty cents a cup. I think the machine would last a lot longer if I am better about descalling and general maintenance but odds are I won't be.One final note i wanted to thank Mark for his help purchasing this machine. I debated trying a new brand but stuck with this and so far i am happy.

After one month of everyday use I am thoroughly impressed by the quality of the espressos & lattes the Accademia creates. There is a learning curve but with the great support of the WLL staff and the phenomenal collection of videos you too can create amazing coffees. The drinks are very hot some reviews said they weren't. I have had this machine for a few months now, but I waited to write review until I had experienced the machine in its entirety. Now I can say…This is by far the best machine for the money. Super simple to use and even easier maintenance. But let’s talk coffee. The milk based drinks are exceptional. Whether you use the carafe or the wand frother, you get delicious, professional style foam every time. But, my favorite feature is the coffee boost to give that extra shot of caffeine in the mornings. I have tried every drink on the menu and have not been disappointed with any of them. But, my favorite feature is the coffee boost to give that extra shot of caffeine in the mornings. I have tried every drink on the menu and have not been disappointed with any of them. I especially love that I don’t have to leave the house early to wait in a long line at my local barista. While I would buy this machine again or recommend to everybody, there are 2 annoying things about it. First the drip tray and puck holder have to emptied every 3-4 drinks. It’s really the drip tray, but the puck tray is part of that. It’s not a big deal, but it is slightly annoying. I have read other reviews that say if you have to empty the drip tray in the middle of a drink cycle it doesn’t pick up where you left, off however I have not had that problem. I just hit the button and it resumes making the drink wherever it left off. The second annoying feature is the place on top where you put in pre-ground coffee. After one or two times using it, it no longer springs open, I have to use my fingernail to stick down in there and lift up the lid. These two little slight annoyances are nothing compared to all the other positives about this machine. My friends and family that have used it all say it’s easy to use and it has spoiled them with extremely good coffee. Now when they go to the local shops they are disappointed. My parents loved it so much, they bought one too! If you are on the fence, I know it is a lot to spend, but it really is worth it, and it will pay for itself in no time by saving trips to your local coffee house. I highly recommend watching the videos that Whole Latte Love has provided. They provide quick easy explanations on all of the functions and features. And let me just say also that their customer service is above and beyond. Overall this is a super impressive machine, but you would expect nothing less coming out of Italy. Italians really do know their coffee.

I have been a long time Saeco automatic espresso machine owner, and this is the first machine I have found that has excited me as much as buying that first Saeco 13 years ago, This machine performs very well and feels very solid. I am still dialing in my espresso as I feel I can get a bit more out of it, but it produced a very decent espresso right off the bat. I do know the machine has a self adapting phase, so I am taking it slow on modifying anything. Every espresso that comes out tastes better than the last, even without making changes. Also this is much quieter than my old Saeco! The thing is built solid so that probably helps. Auto frothing of the milk is nice, and I am looking forward to playing with the manual milk wand which reminds me of my old bartending ... MoreI have been a long time Saeco automatic espresso machine owner, and this is the first machine I have found that has excited me as much as buying that first Saeco 13 years ago, This machine performs very well and feels very solid. I opted for this over the Gaggia Babila, which is a bit older but still an awesome machine! I don't think you can get any better for that price. And the Jura Z10 was another runner up. Jura is a bit too pricey for what you get in my eyes. It has very nice features, but the Accademia feels more solid to me. Definitely a luxury feel, and intuitive interface. You will not be disappointed.

Lukewarm milk drinks and watery espresso
1 January 2023

I've had the new Gaggia Accademia 2022 for a few days now and probably made 30 drinks or so trying to get the right espresso flavor and consitency without any luck. I've tried three types of beans and have yet to have a decent cup of espresso. The ristrettos are much better but the espresso is just watery despite using all the built in flavor enhancer options. Additionally, the milk based drinks are luke warm at best despite what the videos mention. I was told the new Gaggia solved this issue in the new model but that doesn't seem to be the case at all. On the hottest temperature setting the warmest capuccino or latte I've made was 119 degrees after the milk was left out of the fridge for 15 mins. This is unacceptable on a machine of this cost and is 15 degrees ... MoreI've had the new Gaggia Accademia 2022 for a few days now and probably made 30 drinks or so trying to get the right espresso flavor and consitency without any luck. This is unacceptable on a machine of this cost and is 15 degrees colder than my Nespresso machine makes. I thought I was ugprading from my Nespresso machine but in reality, I think I've downgraded at quadruple the cost.Pros:Amazing finishes and beautiful looking machineVery responsive LED screenHolds a decent amount of beansChanges the order of milk vs espresso depending on the drinkCons:Watery espressoCold milk drinksEndless rinsing cycles and notifications which leads to having to fill up the water and empty the drip tray after just a few drinksThe preground doser just dumps the grinds on top of the drip tray inside the machine so they are all overNo wifi/app

Replacing a Jura
3 May 2023

We have been a Jura family about 20 years now. The machine that started it was bought refurbished, and served us and then our son well, but the pump died. Replacing seemed to make more sense than repair, so we set out to find the features that mattered most. The search lead to Whole Latte Love videos and the new Gaggia Accademia. The ability to brew coffee directly into a travel mug was a feature he really wanted. The ability to control flow and fine tune brewing was a bonus. Had I seen this machine a year earlier (not sure if it was available yet) I would have bought it for myself for the tall mug and milk system features. My son is happy and my husband says it makes a better coffee or espresso on the default settings than our Jura using the same beans. For less ... MoreWe have been a Jura family about 20 years now. My son is happy and my husband says it makes a better coffee or espresso on the default settings than our Jura using the same beans. For less money. Son also loves the smart look of the black with the red stripe and the functionality of the brewing controls (less likely to brew an accidental cup by getting too close to a very sensitive touch screen as has happened multiple times with our Jura, wasting coffee). Hmmm. If Gaggia doesn't fix what ain't broken the way Jura dies, we may become a Gaggia family. Thanks Mark, for the great videos and reviews. You can't run to the nearest mall and compare these machines, so your videos are so helpful.

Thrilled with this Master Barista!
16 May 2023

I'll keep this short and sweet. I researched fully automatics for over 1 year, watched countless YouTube videos and decided Gaggia was the way to go given the brand's continued high reviews from multiple resources. This bad girl went on sale and I had to jump on it.It's still expensive, no doubt, but not at all disappointing. The espresso drinks are all fantastic and can be skillfully tuned to appease anyone's pallet. The milk drinks, in my mind, are the star of the show. I combine a little sweet creamer with my milk in the frother and oh my.. deliciousness! This machine is masterful in it's frothing capabilities with several level options. The milk apparatus is so effortless in cleaning compared to other "ritzy" brands and I dare say not nearly as much to offer as this unit in customization. The only downside I have experienced is that, as previously mentioned, the internal drip tray and puck holder will need to be emptied every 4-6 pulls, but no biggie. Takes 1 minute. So much for short and sweet.. I'm extremely thrilled with this unit. And it looks darn good too.
