This is an excellent super-automatic espresso machine overall and it really deserves a 4.5 star rating but since reviews can only be left in whole star increments, I had to round down to 4 stars due to a couple of a drawbacks. Here are my brief pros/cons with a more detailed review following:Pros:- Very compact machine, fits perfectly on the counter under the cabinets;- Makes great milk based beverages at the touch of a button;- Love the flow adjustment dial to seamlessly move between brewing a cup of straight coffee and espresso drinks - excellent feature that makes the machine super versatile;- Menu is fairly easy to navigate with most popular drinks accessible without having to access beverage menu;- Maintenance is not bad at all (even keeping up with all ... MoreThis is an excellent super-automatic espresso machine overall and it really deserves a 4.5 star rating but since reviews can only be left in whole star increments, I had to round down to 4 stars due to a couple of a drawbacks. One of the biggest pluses for this machine is the small footprint, I wanted something that would not take up a lot of counter space and that would fit comfortably under my cabinets and this really fits the bill. Purchasing a machine of this size, you should understand the water tank will not be that large. It's true that the machine does rinse itself frequently (start up, after being idle for a bit after making drinks, and when going into sleep mode) but that's part of what helps make the maintenance easy to handle so, again, I do not fault the machine for that. I also don't quite understand the gripes about how the coffee grounds drawer fills up too quickly. I always have to empty the drip tray well before the coffee grounds fill up so I just do both at once regardless of how full the coffee grounds drawer is. It's not that cumbersome. There's no doubt that this machine is for personal home use or a small office setting. If you're trying to make espresso drinks one after the other for a lot of people or a busy office, this is probably not the machine for that. The coffee and espresso this machine brews is top notch. One of the deciding factors for me in getting this machine over a different one was the flow adjustment dial that lets you control the flow of water through the grounds. I really wanted the machine I selected to be versatile enough to make espresso drinks as well as regular coffee because I sometimes want just one cup of coffee in the evening and it's a hassle to brew a single cup in our coffee maker. I feel like this machine is a true "coffee AND espresso" machine versus an "espresso machine that can also make coffee." The straight coffee is delicious, I prefer to make mine using the espresso beans in the hopper but there's also a compartment for pre-ground coffee for a milder cup.The maintenance and cleaning is straightforward and all in all, not that time consuming. The daily/weekly cleanings are a breeze and the more involved cleanings still take less than 10 minutes. I've had the machine for about 7 months now and it's performed beautifully the whole time. I do recommend purchasing extra milk carafes for even more versatility. We have three: one for regular milk, one for oat milk, and one for a chai mixture for making dirty chai lattes. Now, having sung the machine's praises, there are a couple of drawbacks that are irritating enough that I knocked off the 1/2 star to round down to 4/5 stars. As I said before, having to refill the water tank on a regular basis is not that big of a deal. But what is frustrating is that the machine will allow itself to run out of water in the middle of making a drink. Once you refill the drink, the machine is back to being a blank slate, it doesn't remember that it's already ground beans to make a drink and it doesn't remember where it left off. If you were brewing a cup of coffee for example (which obviously takes a good amount of water), it just stops brewing completely so you either have to have it brew another cup or run just hot water into your half brewed cup of coffee. It seems like it would be common sense for the machine to give you the "Add Water" notice if there is not enough water in the reservoir to brew a full cup of coffee but it doesn't. If the machine wouldn't stop in the middle of making a drink, I think I would have given it 5 stars without a doubt because the other drawbacks are quite minor.Programming beverages takes a lot of trial and error and guesswork. It seems like there could be a better guide for the custom settings so you have a starting point but instead you literally just have to guess and then adjust as you brew and sample. One example is trying to set the amount of coffee to be used for brewed coffee. It's basically a bar graph that lets you adjust the amount of coffee, every time you hit the button, the amount of coffee will increase but there are A LOT of options and there is absolutely no indication how much coffee each bar represents so you're just guessing. Eventually you get it to where you want it but it takes a long time to get the customization right and it feels like there should be a better way.Milk based beverages also turn out on the lukewarm side because of the cold milk even when you have it on the highest temperature setting. I find that the lattes and cappuccinos need a quick steam after brewing which adds a step to the process and leaves you with an extra implement you have to clean. Similarly, the hot water (even on the highest temp setting) is still a bit cool for brewing a good cup of tea, the water just doesn't get hot enough.Overall, this is an excellent machine and I am very satisfied with the purchase.

I highly recommend anyone planning to buy a high-end espresso maker to look elsewhere. Their 2-year warranty is basically non-existent. I bought this espresso maker from whole latte love because they seemed to have a great warranty. I was wrong! My machine has now been broken for 6 months. It was a huge mechanical flaw (door hinges break and you can not open and close the front panel) of the machine and apparently many of the machines have this issue and it is well know yet they still sell the machines. Wish I had know this before buying it!! I basically have to fix it myself once I receive the part from them. They wanted me to pay for the part, I wasn’t having that, and they finally agreed to send the part for free. The part is on backorder do to supply chain ... MoreI highly recommend anyone planning to buy a high-end espresso maker to look elsewhere. Their 2-year warranty is basically non-existent. Mean while new customers are receiving new machines while old customers are having to sit with their broken machines for months! Very poor customer service and warranty. I do not plan to ever shop with them again and I am not recommending them to anyone

The machine does what it says it can, BUT there is a MASSIVE amount of coffee ground wasted with this machine (beans are ground up but then spilled inside the machine). About 10% of the beans we grind are discarded within the machine and require clean up and disposal. Over time, this is a lot of wasted coffee grounds. We also don't use the milk carafes because of how difficult they are to clean out. After 3 times dealing with spoiled milk residue (even after cleaning) we decided to stop using the carafes all together, which really limits what drinks you can make with the machine. We now use this only to make shots of espresso and pour into microwaved milk...I would look for a more efficient machine that is easier to clean if I were to buy another one. This is a beautiful espresso machine with great functionality that makes nearly perfect espresso. How convincing is it? One of my contractors tried a couple shots it made and he told me he bought one himself and never went to the coffee shops again :-)It's probably very similar to Gaggia Academica but with more streamlined buttons and appearance. It could make espresso, lungo, drip (style) coffee, latte, etc. The nice thing about it is you can program each and every drink to suit your own taste (coffee amount, strength, body, water temperature etc.) and you can even program espresso, lungo and coffee buttons to remember the running time of the water so you can have stronger or thinner coffee to your desire. The dose of the coffee beans might be on the lower end ... MoreThis is a beautiful espresso machine with great functionality that makes nearly perfect espresso. How convincing is it? The dose of the coffee beans might be on the lower end (~7g?) but you can always press espresso button to make it stronger if you like. The chrome enclosure really shines with other appliances if you have similar color-tone ones in your kitchen and it is not noisy at all while running. I would say it is like boiling water level noise at most. The grinder is enclosed very well that you could tell it is grinding but not annoying at all.In a nutshell, this is a great super automatic espresso machine and at it's price range, it is hard to find anything else that beats it.
This machine is quite expensive, however, I am glad that I decided to spend a little extra and get the Babila model. At first, I was having buyers remorse because the Babila has so many settings and options to make coffee drinks it was overwhelming and I wasn't enjoying any of them. After probably 20 coffees, I started finding the right grind, the right temperature, duration, amount of coffee, crema, etc. Now, I have settings programed and making the perfect coffee is easy. I've moved on to trying the endless coffee beans available and I am liking Lavazza right now. I am still trying different settings to explore and really dial in what we like. I've moved on to trying the endless coffee beans available and I am liking Lavazza right now. I am still trying different settings to explore and really dial in what we like. The fully automatic feature (what we wanted) is very nice especially with the way it makes coffees with milk. I have used the manual steam wand to froth and warm milk - it's ok and nice to have, but the machine was really designed to be automatic. A few things that I would recommend to the manufacture: 1. the machine has to be emptied (used grounds and water) fairly often, I would guess every 3 to 5 coffees. I would recommend doubling the size of the holding trays and as a result, make the water tank and coffee bean compartment larger as well. Of course this will increase the machine size - which would probably be an issue for some, but I would rather have a larger capacity. The other frustrating issue is when you run out of coffee beans, water or milk (as well as if the grounds/water tray needs to be emptied) after the cycle has begun, unless I am not doing it right, the machine detects a level low - and it stops and has to be started all over wasting that cycle. So, you pretty much have to check each time before you start a brew cycle. As others have mentioned in their review, the temperatures don't get super hot (even when selecting the highest setting), especially when using the milk feature. It's not bad, but 10 degrees warmer would be perfect. Bottom line: I am very happy with this machine, is it perfect, of course not, but I don't think there is another super automatic that delivers the same performance at this price at least that I found. And finally, Whole Latte Love is the place to buy your machine. They are friendly, helpful and are there for you unlike other stores that just sell stuff. Hope this helps.
I am on the fence about purchasing the Babila espresso machine not because it does not work well but because of the user reviews where there was concern about the espressos and milky drinks being too cold when they should be hotter than room temperature. That said, I cannot recall ordering an espresso or latte to other milky drink that was hot. The where includes restaurants, espresso bars both in America and throughout Europe and Asia. They are always served warm with no hint of being near hot.The bottom line is that being served over 100 espressos (I lived in Spain for many months) and every morning and evening I ordered many espressos and some milky drinks. At best they were near hot but I could drink them down with no wait time. And I sitting at the bar facing the espresso machine about five feet away from it. The bartender was dedicated to the espresso machine rather than serving drinks. There were other bartenders doing that. By far, he was busier than the drinks bartenders were.In any event, the coffee drinks I ordered were never delayed but were given to me immediately after they were made. I wonder if other those reviewers who had the complaint of the Babila not frothing hot milk might have had a defecting machine?I am still torn between this Babila and the Jura S8. Maybe the old adage, ‘You get what you pay for’ is really playing a part in my decision? I believe that might be the case.
I have been using the Gaggia Babila for over 2 years now and thought I would give some long term impressions. My coffee has been largely LaVazza Super Crema (whole bean). My usual routine is to steam some milk to add to my double espresso. My wife usually enjoys hot tea in the morning. So after waking the machine up, I steam a pitcher with about 1 cup of milk using the wand instead of the carafe because I like my milk very hot ( about 180 F). Note: if the milk volume is greater, I use a thermometer to check the temp and may run the steam cycle a second time; it's easy to press "STOP" to end the process to avoid overheating. I have a small folded and damped paper towel ready to wipe the steam wand immediately after steaming. I then place a waste cup or a cup with a tea bag under the steam wand and run water through it (2-3 seconds or a full cup as appropriate). I then place my coffee cup and press the ESPRESSO button twice to prepare my double shot. After the machine finishes I then stir my steamed milk into the cup and top it with some of the foam.PROS: The machine really does work well and the drinks are delicious. The coffee quantity, grind, and flow can be dialed in. The unit does not take up a lot of space on my counter (but one needs to be sure that the top is not obstructed as water and beans are added there). The coffee reservoir is a great size and the cover has a seal to keep the coffee fresher. The controls are pretty straightforward especially with my morning routine when I am not quite peppy!CONs: The milk carafe is OK at best - it does work, it is simple to operate, but it requires frequent cleaning and the milk does not get hot enough and there is no way to adjust that. Having -water close by is essential as I need to add water to the tank constantly. Would love to have a 2x tank or a water connection with auto-fill. Similarly, the waste bins (coffee and water) need to be dumped/rinsed daily.Other notes: I periodically clean the brew group and really clean out the interior as some ground coffee makes its way to places other than the bin. Wet paper towels make the job easier. The steam cycle is right at 2 minutes and this is nearly perfect for 1 cup of milk - an adjustment feature would be nice. Overall, very pleased with this machine after well over 3000 espressos!
I had 2 Jura Capresso machines that I loved. They were work horses and never failed. The first lasted over 14 years with just regular maintenance. Very simple machine. The second we bought and it is still going strong after about 10 years. When we bought a second vac home we bought the Babila and used it in our primary residence and transferred the Jura to the vacay home with lesses use. This Babila started leaking just before the 2 year date and it needs repair. If I had a do over I would not buy this again.Again Thanks Tim I eagerly await the parts .
First the machine started to randomly lose pressure and dispense really slow. Then the brew Group started sounding like it was going to break when pressing the grounds. I do maintenance on the machine regularly probably more often than not and the compartment is always full with grounds dry grounds as if they are not making it into the presser. Now this morning I tried to take out the tray and it was completely stuck in the unit finally was able to get it out and noticed the brew group was looking like it was in a weird position and I could not get it out of the Machine after about 10 minutes messing with it, it finally came out and once again the interior of the machine was filled with dry grounds and the cradle the brew group sits on was warped or melted and the ... MoreFirst the machine started to randomly lose pressure and dispense really slow. SO at that point I put in a ticket and was told it would be 5 days or more before I was contacted by support. Honestly a machine costing 1899.00 should not feel this cheap but it does. Im going to try and upgrade to the JURA S8 if they will let me because this Gaggia has not been a very good experience at all. I will update when I get in contact with Whole Latte Love to see how they handle this situation I'm sure they will do their part.
I've had this machine for 11 months and have been mostly happy with the performance, however the door hinge recently broke. It is still under warranty and Whole Lotte Love has been quick to respond to my inquiry, so happy to have done business with them again. I expect more from a machine costing almost $2k, though, and have long term concerns once the warranty runs out. Based on that, I would not recommend for heavy users. Otherwise, makes a good latte, although I never use the milk carafe. I prefer a wet latte with smooth micro-foam, which I can make with the wand, but the foam from the carafe reminds me of a latte I'd get from a chain coffee shop. I used it for a few weeks when first purchased, but the carafe has been unused in the drawer ever since.Overall, ... MoreI've had this machine for 11 months and have been mostly happy with the performance, however the door hinge recently broke.
