Garmin Edge 1050 Premium Bike Computer

There is no doubt that this computer is an outright splurge, but you’ll forget the price after the first time you use it. It is, in fact, easily better enough to justify the price.The screen is absurdly crisp, bright and easy to read. I need readers, but can’t find a good on-bike solution, so I’ve been relying on a 1040. This is far superior to the 1040, which is already amazing.The speaker is insane. I rely heavily on food and drink reminders, but I often wouldn’t quite hear the beeps on my other Garmins, so I’d miss feeds and constantly be doing math. You don’t miss the warnings from this speaker.The battery is exceptional. I’m connected to all the sensors all of us are - radar, headlight, HRM, AXS, Di2, power meters. The display is a big improvement, brighter and it can be read with the sun behind the unit, whereas my 1030 screen disappeared when backlit. Transferring all the settings was simple and quick. (Reminder: Stages power meter will not sync with anything unless the bike is moving). The Varia radar warning displays nicely along the edges, and the warning tones are much more crisp through the 1050 speaker than on the 1030. I liked the instant change to showing grade/incline when the 1050 detects a hill.I look forward to trying the navigation on the 1050. The processor seems much faster than the 1030, and the screen is much easier to read. It is about as loud as a basic bike bell, but I find the "140dB" (yeh; sure) Hornit to do a better job of clearing the bike path.It's a splendid bike computer, I received great service from Mike's Bikes, and I quickly sold my 1030 for $220 on craigslist.

This replaced an Edge 540 but there is no comparison between the two. I responded after hearing David Bolt’s description of the new 1050. The power, speed touch screen ease of use are beyond compare. I used to have issues with switching sensors on different bikes. The 1050 makes tasks like that a breeze. I have a second Varia and often do a switch when the low battery light comes on. It used to drive me nuts on the 540 but on the 1050 it is easy. Plus no more hard resets due to the 540 locking up or presenting a vacant screen after updates. Only drawback is size as it doesn’t fit all bar mounts. I have modular bar/stem so have resorted to using the quarter turn mount included with all Gamins and that is working fine
