These are supposed to be great, and maybe they are. I have some Grado 80s, and I sort of like their house sound. Which is very different than the Sundaras. Might go without saying. I’m trying to adapt. Retrain my ears. Or brain. Sundaras are well built, comfortable, and do sound good. I’m no expert, but I guess with most hifi gear, you have to learn what you like/expect, and the only way to do this is by trying different headphones or gears. It’s probably why many people have multiple pairs of headphones. No regrets on the purchase.

I've absolutely enjoyed using these Ananda headphones from HIFIMAN. They are my first pair of wireless open-back headphones, as I previously only used open-back in wired from such as my HD650's from Sennheiser, or my Focal Elex headphones. The detail is phenomenal with these, I can clearly hear the lows, mids, and highs with wonderful detail, and no distortion to be found. Very clear headphones with a very neutral bass response all the way down to the sub bass, great soundstage and comfortable for long durations. They're replacing my AT ATH-AD700 (originals) and I don't regret it at all, especially for the better bass response after EQ. They are very large and I have them on lowest headband setting so if you have a small head they might feel too big and need to get a good fit.There is a very sudden rise in the high mids to low treble that I EQ out to be more gradual otherwise it can sound a touch harsh in contrast. I also use an EQ to get to the harman target and don't get any distortion in the music, I'm very sensitive to sound and not had any problems with distortion after EQ.All in all I would say these are the best open back ... This is my first purchase of a pair of Planar Magnetic headphones. The Hifiman Ananda headphones offer an exceptional, immersive listening experience. I love the wide sound stage and the build quality is sturdy and comfortable. They very easy to drive but to me sound better with a little more power. They are a great addition to my current group of headphones.The buying experience with HeadAmp was excellent. A+ customer service. Since I live near their shop they had no problem with me picking up my purchase. I will buy from their company again.

If you have great source material this headphone will give you details, good tonality and good separation of instruments. To tweak them to get the best sound I would suggest upgrading the cable with a quality cable. In my system this headphone also benefited with about 200 hours of burn in before it got rid of the gritty sharpness in the highs. These are even more comfortable than the Sundaras. These bring out slightly and worth it more details than the Sundara. I upgraded the cable to a Audio Ninja XLR cable and it was a good improvement over stock. I own Moon Audio Silver Dragon cables for Focal Elegia headphones. This cable also worked with the Arya. The Silver Dragon cables took ... I already had a pair of the Anandas but needed another for a different system. The best headphone I've heard at any price. The one ordered here was listed as Mint and it definitely is. It's best to upgrade the cable though, as the original chokes much of the sound. Also, they've changed the newer models to the stealth magnet design. I don't care for it, which is why I ordered this older one. The Neofantasia cable, silver coated, it also the best I've heard and let's the Ananda really shine.

They sound pretty intimate with lot of emotions in the presentation, energetic and to the face kind of an impactful sound. Personally this was not something I was looking for but I am getting used to it and with burnin the to the face kind of presentation is gradually taking a backstep. I have hardly used them for 20hours or so, so I am sure things will change with ~200 hours of burn in and I feel it will only get better. Buildwise, I feel they are pretty good, they do have a bit of clamp force but then that is what keeps these huge cups on our ears so that's fine I guess. The cables are okay, I just didn't like the springy characteristics. And I really dont understand the logic of providing 2 single ended cables, seems to be of mediocre quality, and only difference is length. Hifiman should have put a little thought to this and rather provided one good quality balanced cable, I think that's a fair ask for a headphone that costs 1000$.Find me on social media for the detailed reviews coming out in a week or two.
Upgraded from Hifiman HE400SE and I must say the the sound quality, tone, clarity, comfort and build quality compare to the HE400SE is actually a massive and very noticeable jump. Whilst the HE400SE was a noticeably better than my M50x, Focal Listen Wireless and Moondrop Starfield. But never I have heard such a big jump in overall sound and build quality going to the Sundaras. For me $550 is as much as I want to spend on headphones and I am finally "WOWed" and they aren't even burned in fully yet. I think I have reach the end in terms of hunting for better headphones.One thing is I definitely recommend a decent amp for these though. Then compared Ananda to Arya and the differences were not immediately evident to me, could be a limitation from my DAC AMP or my lack of attention or experience. Later I tried out the Ananda and Arya on the Hifiman EF-400 R2R DAC AMP. I could hear more stereo separation and more dynamic sound from the EF-400 in comparison to my xDuoo XD-05 Bal. May be some day I can consider upgrading to the EF-400.Finally after all the comparisons, I finally settled for Hifiman Ananda and got myself a balanced cable for use with it. I must say, I am very happy with my purchase. Thanks to Pritam for his guidance.Beyerdynamics (all 250 Ohm versions) did not sound that open sounding and enjoyable to me. Focal Listen was a decent pair, but I could feel that it was not in the same league as Ananda as it felt inferior in comparison to Ananda.Ananda sounds wider than any other open backs that I have heard so far, may be Arya being the only exception. Ananda sounded pretty close to the Arya to my ears on my xDuoo and I could not justify the price jump which was twice the price of Ananda.
