These are supposed to be great, and maybe they are. I have some Grado 80s, and I sort of like their house sound. Which is very different than the Sundaras. Might go without saying. I’m trying to adapt. Retrain my ears. Or brain. Sundaras are well built, comfortable, and do sound good. I’m no expert, but I guess with most hifi gear, you have to learn what you like/expect, and the only way to do this is by trying different headphones or gears. It’s probably why many people have multiple pairs of headphones. No regrets on the purchase.

Amazing Sound and clarity, quality construction.

Bought the Sundara recently from Apos, promptly delivered TO TX, BNIB, with the apos XLR cable. The sound was super sweet and clear and nice. The cable is high quality, except it is a bit short.I have been using the Senn 650, and the 600 and the 56os. The Sundara to my ears is my preferred headphones.I also own the HiFi Man HE400i, and the sound is pretty nice too, however I love the quality of the Sundara, the nicer ear cushions, and the sound is clearer and more detailed.Ty Apos, I appreciate your excellent service

Beautiful so far, and anticipating even better experience after burn in.

I had heard and seen a lot of reviews regarding the Sundara headphones, and many times it was comparing headphones and then they would ask how it compares to the Sundaras. I decided to take the plunge. So far, they definitely hit well above this price point in sound.. I have read a several reviews which talked about HIFIMan's QA, but I have no issues with what I received and if my other HIFIMan headphones are any indication, then these should outlast me. I have the 400s, 350s, and have zero complaints. I am really happy with this purchase. That being said, I knew going into this that I would be needing a replacement cable. I prefer the sound of my balanced amp and so will be ordering one today. HIFIMAN Sundara - Super Value Planar Magnetic Cans
30 April 2023

Bought these last month. The manufacturer (HIFIMAN) suggests up to 150 hour "burn in" to reach their peak sound quality. However, after only a few hours use, my pair already sound absolutely fantastic. Already own Grados, Sennheisers, Beyerdynamics but these are my first planar magnetic headphones. Highly impressed!! Currently using with a Bluesound Node 2i streamer (Qobuz, Radio Paradise) into a Chord Mojo DAC/headphone amp. Also soon adding an Ifi Zen Can Signature HFM headphone amp to use with an Arcam Solo Mini for CD playback.

Upgraded from Hifiman HE400SE and I must say the the sound quality, tone, clarity, comfort and build quality compare to the HE400SE is actually a massive and very noticeable jump. Whilst the HE400SE was a noticeably better than my M50x, Focal Listen Wireless and Moondrop Starfield. But never I have heard such a big jump in overall sound and build quality going to the Sundaras. For me $550 is as much as I want to spend on headphones and I am finally "WOWed" and they aren't even burned in fully yet. I think I have reach the end in terms of hunting for better headphones. One thing is I definitely recommend a decent amp for these though. Only way to get decent volume out of these on my Ifi Zen Dac was running it balanced. Worked really well with my MT602 tube amp. Answered all questions and issues I have in a very prompt manner.

Impressive

I am on a headphone journey (with the help of Audio46). I purchased the HiFiMan HE400SE a few months back and was genuinely impressed, as it an opening priced model. I wondered what acoustic improvement might be achieved with an upgrade, so I recently ordered the Sandara model. The best adjective I can use to describe the difference is presence. The Sandara projects a bigger soundstage and there is greater layers of presence in the music (my source is hi-res audio via Deezer. I use a ifi hip dac2 to power them.) Both models offers a sturdy build quality and both are comfortable but the Sandara seems a bit sturdier. For the difference in price, the Sandara is my preferred choice.Of course, now I am saving to buy the Ananda, and see what differences or improvements ... MoreI am on a headphone journey (with the help of Audio46). Justifies its name!!

This headphone does almost everything correctly and produces a very balanced/neutral sound but still has got fun to it with some coloration in the mid range and treble. The treble is the most shining part of the spectrum and has got a lot of detail to it without being harsh on the ears. The midrange is good but the bass is subjective. To me it depends on the genre of the song you listen to. The quantity of the bass is a little less but the quality of the bass is wonderful, has good slam and attack. The soundstage is decent. The sound is very lively. For this price this is a legend.

Nice relaxed sound!
7 December 2021

The Hifiman Sundaras are a comfortable set of headphones and have a nice relaxed sound. After spending some time with them and adjusting the EQ from my portable hi-def player, I am enjoying the details and hear some nuances that I have missed in the past. I have to struggle to hear the details in the vocals, violins, and woodwinds without the EQ. It is possible that the upper mids get enhanced during the mastering of recordings in order to warm up the reverb. The flat response is most noticeable in that range, which is too present (slightly) and mixes with the highs making them bold for some recordings. After tweaking the EQ, I love the relaxed and wide bass response as well as the clarity and detail in the upper range. Overall at this price-point they are great, but I am not sure that I will enjoy them enough if I need to significantly adjust the EQ.I am a musician and flute maker who appreciates the details in a recording that allow me to understand the performer more deeply (because of the accurate details).

Recent Purchase of Hifiman Sundara Headphones
15 October 2022

Headphones arrived promptly next-day as expected and were well packaged. The headphones themselves at first sounded a bit flat and somewhat lean, contrary to the positive reviews I had read. I then read in the information leaflet included which mentioned a burn-in period of up to 150 hours. So, I let them play for a couple of days and hey-presto they came alive! Now, further down the road, they are pleasingly neutral, natural sounding with a wide soundstage and sweet resonant bass. I've heard reviewers say the Sundara is bass lite, I don't agree. Bass is natural and accurate - I use the ifi Hip Dac v2 to drive them and with the bass boost feature switched on they have amazing zeal and slam. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with these cans, they're a good investment in my view I recommend them wholeheartedly. Last word...they don't work well through a phone or iPad headphone jack; they are made for use with a DAC/AMP combo.

Worth it!

The Sundara's are a great headphone. The build feels sturdy and to me they are comfortable for hours of extended use (even with glasses on). Compared to the Sennheiser HD6xx, the Sundara's have more bass and treble, with less midrange. As a result, they sound more detailed and have better bass response than the 6xx, but vocals are not as present. The Sundara's also have a much wider soundstage and great imaging. Acoustic music sounds really excellent on these. While these are great for listening to the details in your music, they are not as forgiving for tracks that aren't recorded well. The 6xx would be a better bet for enjoying music that hasn't been recorded well, or if you want to accentuate vocals.
