The Hills Prescription diet cat food is awesome! My 12 year old cat, Max, has had digestive issues as he's gotten older - our vet prescribed this Hills Prescription diet (both the dry and wet cat food). Max's health has improved considerably, he seems much happier, and so are we! Highly recommend this product!

I had 2 cats with digestive issues. This food did not help either cat. The problem with this is if you don't figure this out in 30 days you cant return/exchange the food. If you purchase online from the other local pet store chain you can return it in store because they carry the food. I wont be ordering from petco again. I wanted to support the smaller store but I am not tossing out money because of their return policies. I had already tried a few bags of the old formula so I ordered several bags of this and receive the new formula. The cat with explosive diarrhea and gas was not helped. The vet did a full workup and found nothing. The other cat was severely constipated with dried out m-n-m sized poop, that cat had a full workup and the vet found a bladder stone ... Fast forward to when we finally figured out what was going on. The cats had originally been on Hills urinary SO because of the 3rd cat urinary issues. The Hills urinary SO caused constipation in 2 of my cats and diarrhea in the 3rd so I switched them to this food because it is also an SO food. After the formula change It did not help with the diarrhea and the constipation stayed the same for one of the cats.I started to feed the "other brand" gastrointestinal fiber response and they improved considerably in a week. The other brand has more psyllium husk. The other thing is the cat with diarrhea had a lot of gunky ear wax for over a year. It totally cleared up like magic 2 weeks after stopping feeding any Hills foods.

For cats that can benefit from this mix, the can size is way too big. Once the can is opened, it spoils quickly. Refrigerating doesn't help as they will not eat it after. No ailing or elderly cat will consume 5oz in a sitting, so 3/4-2/3rds of each can is wasted. Does it help ? Possibly, but this product is way too expensive to throw away that much of each can. Please make a smaller portion.

Pros: This food is helpful for managing my cats allergies. Both cats seem to like the flavor. Its tricky to find cat food that contains no fish ingredients that cats also find palatable so I appreciate having this option available.Cons: They get bored with it after a few weeks so I need to rotate it out with other allergy friendly foods. Even though I am strict about portion size and don't free feed they tend to gain weight more easily while on this food.
My cat, who has hyperthyroidism, suddenly stopped eating and began having constant diarrhea. After multiple vet visits and medication changes, he was not getting better and was dangerously underweight. When the vet started recommending euthanasia, I was horrified and asked about trying him on a prescription diet. The vet agreed and I started giving him i/d canned food as he wasn’t eating dry food at all anymore, but would eat wet a little. When I gave him that first can, it was like I gave a starving man a 5 star meal. He gobbled it up and continued gobbling it up whenever I gave it to him.I decided to try out the dry food so that he could munch on it between cans, and he loves that, as well. He’s now putting on weight and, while still too thin, doesn’t look like he’s knocking on death’s door anymore.Words cannot describe how thankful I am for this food. It’s also very convenient to be able to have it delivered to my home at a fair price, so thank you Petco. I will definitely be ordering this food from you again. In case anyone is wondering, I did switch veterinarians after that vet recommended euthanizing a beloved pet due to diarrhea.
This treat is great, my cat loves them. And that's good because they are the only treat available. Royal Canin stopped making the hydrolized treats. Now I can't find the Hill's treats. I had to track down a few packages at a vets office. When will they be available again?
Recommended by vet for 6mth cat who constantly vomited after the regular dry food. Settled very quickly. Kept on it for 3 yrs now and he loves taste and prefers over dry food (for elderly cat). Has kept it down without issues. in fact likes it so much he is now a bit over weight. I put it out of reach to prevent midnite munchies.
When I took my cat to the emergency vet, I didn't think she would be coming home. She had gone downhill so fast. After a couple days she was sent home with a prescription for i/d and within a couple weeks I had a whole different cat. Her ribs and spine are no longer sticking out, her coat is beautiful, her tummy is round, and she is out and about, demanding attention. I look at her and am amazed. The only problem is that the other animals in the house - 2 other cats and a dog - think i/d is as delicious as she does.
I am so happy that this product does the job for my little girl who has issues with her gut and as a vet hand reared feral week old of which is feisty as heck and keeps the giant Bengal boy on his toes, I am most grateful she can keep food down now. But! She is an impossible girl to keep in check and will hop into her siblings food.Outcome, not good! This product is highly recommended by myself as it has made a major difference in this little girl's life. Shiny, healthy and feisty.
My cat Walter has chronic kidney disease in the last stages, and is not eating enough by himself, least of all kidney food. We tried to tempt him with all kinds of other cat food too, but he kept losing weight. Then I discovered a/d, and he liked it! What a relief. He is still not eating much by himself, but now he will lick 10-15 ml in one session from my finger, after being encouraged by a dab of it on his lips. I dilute it with just enough water so I can draw it into a food syringe and put pea sized drops on my finger, otherwise half of it will end up in the towel. The texture is fine and creamy, but holds together well. Walter eats half a can a day in addition to his "rewards" (chicken and salmon wet food that he receives after each sub-q and oral medication) ... Walter eats half a can a day in addition to his "rewards" (chicken and salmon wet food that he receives after each sub-q and oral medication) and is already looking better, he even nibbles a few pieces of kidney dry food every now and then, of his own accord. I know that his illness is terminal, but I believe that this food is giving him some more days in the sunshine. One day his kidneys will fail, but at least he will not die of starvation. If only I had known a/d six years ago when I lost my cat Paul to CKD after just a few months of illness. He might have lived longer too. The smell of this food is not appetizing to me, but obviously delicious to my cat, and that is what counts!
