I was absolutely floored when my vet gave me samples of the wet food of this food! My chihuahua had been getting sick (not right away) after eating the Iams dog food she was on. I couldn't understand why all of a sudden. It was like everyday. I thought she was seriously sick and that possibly I would've had to put her down. I took her to an emergency vet and the vet fully examined her and I told the vet what was going on. She gave me a couple samples and my chihuahua hasn't got sick since she's been in this food and its been a little over a year now. It is pricey! Now even pricier with the inflation! I almost had a heart attack when I saw the $74.99!! But, I wasn't ( I don't think I even have that option to switch since I need a prescription) going to try to figure ... MoreI was absolutely floored when my vet gave me samples of the wet food of this food! She's doing great on this and it lasts a good 3 months! I have no idea how! So, it really only comes out to $25 a month. This is a really great foodie your dog has issues with throwing up after he/she eats. I highly would recommend this and I absolutely will continue to buy it for my girl!

Over the course of 2 years since my dog was diagnosed with diabetes, he became deathly ill on three occasions. I could not understand, as I did not change his diet and his glucose levels were ok. I read some disturbing reviews that Hills had "tweaked" the recipe. The main part of keeping a diabetic pooch stable is to keep their food stable. No forewarning by hills, just a poor pup throwing up and lethargic. How dare a company, that stipulates itself NOT to change a dogs diet too quickly as it upsets their stomach, do that to a diabetic dog or cat. Shame on you! No care factor whatsoever. I spoke to my vet, as I now make my dogs own, fresh food and he said most of his clients had also complained that hills change the recipe without notice. When our Lucy started showing signs of drinking way too much water, not eating her food, and urinating frequently we knew something was wrong. We took her to her vet and her diagnosis was pancreatitis with diabetis. We had to leave her in the hospital for three days to get her stable enough to bring home. She was put on the Hill Science Diet W/D which is a wet dog food. Our Lucy hated it because she has always had dry food with a little of the meat we have for dinner. To make a long story short, we found the same prescription food in dry. I ordered from PetCo because they had the best price. This food is expensive so when we know she is going to have to have it we want to save as much as we can. I have a 15 year old MinPin (Kafka), who has been diabetic for almost 5 years. I was prescribed Hills W/D by my Vet at MI state university animal hospitals when I received diagnosis. Kafka loved it. He's NOT a picky eater at all. I've never had to adulterate his food at all (I would occasionally add some warm water to change things up, that's it), but when Hills changed the formula to the W/D he completed rejected it. He will not eat it, even with egg whites and grated carrots, the additional of wet W/D, I've tried everything. I switched to a "high fiber" (9%) food of a different brand, but the main thing that helps diabetics is high soluble fiber, and old W/D formula had like 13-16% (AND it was edible). Kafka has become sick again after going through the mess ... MoreI have a 15 year old MinPin (Kafka), who has been diabetic for almost 5 years. I switched to a "high fiber" (9%) food of a different brand, but the main thing that helps diabetics is high soluble fiber, and old W/D formula had like 13-16% (AND it was edible). Kafka has become sick again after going through the mess caused by Hills, and I can't find a brand that has the fiber content he needs. His glucose is through the roof, he drinks water constantly, and urinates 12 times a day. I've fed science diet, and canine prescription to all of my Dogs and Cats, and I never had and issues until I started using canine W/D. I think the reason so many people give it high marks is because they're new users who never had the opportunity to try the other formula. "If changing your dog's food formula, do it gradually" Hills says?! Maybe take your own advice?
In 2002 my malamute mix was diagnosed with diabetes and my vet prescribed this to control his weight and glucose. He enjoyed the dry and wet versions. We lost him in 2004 (at age 16) and adopted another malamute...his stools were runny no matter what, and I thought I'd give him the leftover w/d. Amazing turnaround. In 2008 we added another malamute to the pack, about age 2, and he thrived to age 15 on the dry w/d. We lost him in May, 2022 and adopted a new malamute (mix) in June. Again, runny stools drove me nuts no matter what he was fed. Supplements didn't help. I asked my vet for a new Rx for w/d and she agreed. Amazing transformation in about 4 days. I'm confident that he's getting the nutrients he needs, and his weight will be easier to control. When my Pomeranian Rocky was a puppy he was injured at daycare and had to have surgery. Due to being laid up recovering he gained a lot of weight. The vet recommended a diet dog food for him and it gave him terrible diarrhea. Finally, vet recommended this food. He was able to go from 15 down to his optimal weight of 10 pounds. His weight has remained at 10 lbs for almost 9 years! No diarrhea or side affects and he loves it - gobbles it down at every meal.
I bought this food a month ago with the hopes that this would finally help regulate my 10 yr old's blood sugar. If I am being completely honest, I didn't go in with very high hopes. She was previously on another prescription dog food for over 6 months and her numbers weren't dropping, even after an insulin switch. Her vet suggested Hill's Multi Benefit w/d about 4 weeks ago. I wish she would have put her on this sooner. After multiple er vet visits and bi-weekly glucose curves, in less than 4 weeks, my baby girls blood sugar dropped from a whooping 475 to a stable 75 at her glucose curve yesterday. The vet even had me drop her insulin back down because it was holding stable. She isn't out of the woods just yet, but she seems to enjoy breakfast and dinner time. My 5 yr old Bichon was diagnosed with diabetes 5 months ago. Prior to this he had been eating the Adult Science Diet (first for small dogs/small bites). The vet recommended that since he'd been eating Science Diet since a puppy, to start him on the W/D. At first, there was no problem, but since my last bag purchased, he won't eat it. I've tried softening the kibble with water, adding the W/D stew (which he also loved before). After around 5 days & holding his insulin because he wasn't eating enough to safely give, I took him to the vet, who now is concerned he will go into ketoacidosis, & was checked for pancreatitis., which thankfully he does not have, at least at this time. I fed W/D to my dog Molly for something like 7-8 years ever since she was diagnosed with Pancreatitis and it worked well for her then the 'improved' version came out ! Molly stopped eating, started vomiting, tummy pains and sleeping.... so I found a new food. I thought maybe the new formula didn't agree with her. I went searching for a food she could have and when I found a couple to try I just happen to look back at the ingredients list again of the W/D I was weaning her off....... I was shocked and angry to see that you had increased the fat content from 9% fat to 13% without telling people in your proud sign "NEW IMPROVED FORMULA" You had not right to change a prescription diet food without giving full information. After years of recommending W/D I am now telling everyone to keep away from it. I could never trust you again after not informing us the pet owners of your changes.
Why have you changed a good product?? I moved my 14 yo Labrador to WD dry food combined with a very small amount of CD urinary care canned food on the advice of my vet and in response to recurring UTI's. The blend was to provide variety and the WD helped manage her weight . The dry CD did cause weight gain hence the move to WD. The kibble size at least slowed her down eating it and was a great treat to carry on walks. We have been very happy and relieved that the UTI's were a thing of the past an no more antibiotics on a regular basis. She almost inhales this new smaller kibble and then looks for more food. Having read other reviews I am know nervously watching to see if there are new problems emerging. I spend a fortune on giving our girl the best of diet , ... MoreWhy have you changed a good product??
