My dear cat is almost 16 years old and was diagnosed with kidney problems in January this year. As a result, he now eats Hills kidney care cat food with beef and chicken. I was initially concerned that he would not like it but I'm pleased to say he eats it and has greatly improved in the last few months. Although he has lost a lot of body weight his fur is now shiny and not dull as it was just before his diagnosis.

Amber is our nearly 18 year old cat. She has been diagnosed with Kidney Disease which is not unusual for a cat of her age. We had her on Hills K/D dry food after she was first diagnosed because it was recommended by the Vet. She was quite happy with it and was doing well. The Vet changed his supplier and wanted her to go on Royal Canin so we tried her on it. She hated it and so did we because it stank the house out with smell akin to rancid meat. I returned the pack, got my money back and put the cat back on Hills - no problems since and her condition has slightly improved. So we can recommend Hills K/D as the as one that works,

Vet recommended early renal food, we gradually changed from whiskers/Felix/Gourmet Perle to Hills. This has a softer texture than previous foods, our cat was a jelly/gravy licker, leaving behind the lumps, so far he has finished the bowl 98% of the time. He behaves like a greedy cat again meowing and pawing at the cupboard. Much more expensive but worth it.

I tend to switch between the cans and the pouches for little Bob as she gets bored of one flavour every now and then and won't eat it. I'm not sure whether the pouches have changed over the last 6 months or so but she is becoming less keen on them altogether now?Do you have any different flavours in the cans? As that's what I'm having the most success with at the moment. Sadly for Bob, I don't think they'll be making an olive flavoured one anytime soon though.Either way, these may stink to the extreme, but seem to be the most palatable special diet food, no matter what Royal Canin say! Very frustrating that both of my local vets don't stock them any more.
Had two cats, both with failing kidneys later in life, a sad reality unfortunately. I really could see the improvement in their lives the last few years and it's directly related to this food. The quality is excellent and it gave me, I would say, around three years extra with each of my loved ones. Would recommend any day, along with the mobility k/d.
Initially my cat liked this food but unfortunately after having it several times, he has now decided he dislikes it. It is difficult to get him to eat it as he doesnt seem to enjoy the taste or texture. However, when he does eat it, his digestion and bowels work better than when he eats cheaper, less well-made alternatives. I am still trying to get him to transition to this food!
Our domestic long haired cat Joey was a happy healthy cat until at the age of four, she went into renal failure. She stopped eating, could hardly move and lost so much weight to the extent where she weighed about 1.3kgs. We were heart broken and tried to feed her little bits of chicken to get her eating again but it seemed that she was going downhill fast. Eventually she was in such bad shape that we decided to take her to the Vet to be put down, our Vet Gavin Watson at Pietersburg Veterinary Clinic said we should try one last thing: Hills KD diet, the soft food sachets were our saving grace as Joey started eating little bits at a time and within three weeks she had gained a kilogram and was almost back to her usual self. Now she is weighs 3kgs, has a healthy shiny coat and is loving life. She still gets her daily treat of soft food and will meow like crazy at 4pm just in case you forget to feed her. Thank you Hills for saving a very special member of our family!!
My beautiful cat has special needs. She has been diagnosed with Kidney disease so she can only eat food specifically designed for cats with Kidney disease. There is not alot of variety out there for cats with Kidney disease and my cat is a very fussy eater. I tried her on these pouches and she actually showed some interest in them. She loves the small chunks of meat and the light gravy it comes in. One pouch usually lasts her all day so it is perfect for her. These pouches offer variety for my cat cos she also likes the pate I give her from the same brand.
The pouches are a step up from the tins which were inedible and sloppy at one point so changed to pouches. Needs more liquid and the meat component bits could be smaller . Cat eats a few of the meat bits but always takes the liquid first.
I bought the Hills Prescription Diet k/d Food, cans, pouches, and Chicken Dry. Also the Royal Canin equivalent. So far he prefers the dry food, especially the Hills, and just eats a few morsels of the wet food, and licks the gravy off. However, I think he needs time to get used to the new diet, and today was eating more of the wet food, also the Royal Canin Dry. He is 18, and has always had the Hills Science Diet dried food, as well as various wet cat foods, his favourite being Sheba. He certainly seems fitter since he started on the diets, and can jump better.
