This is arguably the best black and white fiber based multicontrast paper available, have used it for years. Consistent quality catch to batch. Tones well In selenium toner. Neutral black tone. The glossy takes on a beautiful satin sheen when air dried. Thank you Ilford for continuing to produce this great product in a shrinking field of competitors.D. Webb at WebbPhoto

I am in the process of printing a lifetime body of work (forty years). I LOVE the Multigrade FB Classic Paper Glossy, 8 x 10,100 sheets. I have looked long and hard for paper that corresponds exactly to what I want to present and this is it. Although a friend whoprints with this same paper using cold head light has shown me it is a full grade more contrasty than the Ilfobrom paper from days of old which I also have used, I find it just perfect. There are more middle tones. I print 6x9 film and 35mm film with an Omega enlarger with diffusion color head with all filters out of the way using the White Light setting only, the paper responds beautifully. Also Ilford technical support replied regarding my concern that the paper might be discontinued as many have: MGFB ... MoreI am in the process of printing a lifetime body of work (forty years). This is possibly the best general purpose multigrade photographic paper ever made and my latest purchase of 250 sheet boxes from Adorama came at a price that other sellers could not match. Thank you Adorama. There is a hard-to-solve problem in shipping damage for this product. A 250 sheet box of photographic paper is heavy and very dense for its volume. This characteristic overwhelms the light weight air-filled packing used and the photographic paper boxes move about and become split while riding within an intact outer carton. Opening the shipment under photographic safe-light and repackaging the photographic paper into light proof boxes is a sensible precaution if damage is suspected.I will keep shopping with Adorama

Thank you so much for the speedy despatch of my photographic paper. I ordered it on Friday afternoon from Mittagong, 130 kms south of Sydney Australia, and it arrived from New York at my door on Monday lunchtime! You always deliver quickly, but this must break all records!!Thank you!Chris
I was working with Ilford FB matte finish before getting this paper but with certain images especially like of the Amazon Rainforest, I really wanted to have a finish that had some shine but I didn't want the kind of a shine of a RC paper and because it is for a future show, I wanted the paper to be of gallery standards i.e. fiber paper. Unlike the matte finish (which has it's own purposes), I feel the D-max is better on this paper for images where you want higher contrast. It still has the weight of a matte finish which is double weight. Definitely a plus when you want the extra durability for a final image. On a final note, I will never buy my photo paper elsewhere, B&H is the best. Your paper is packed with four cardboard corner protecters and shipped in a box. ... MoreI was working with Ilford FB matte finish before getting this paper but with certain images especially like of the Amazon Rainforest, I really wanted to have a finish that had some shine but I didn't want the kind of a shine of a RC paper and because it is for a future show, I wanted the paper to be of gallery standards i.e. fiber paper. Being Ilford, it is as you would expect. It is consistent, easy to use, just a touch warm to my eyes, and generally gorgeous. I have yet to selenium tone it yet but pre-toned in Dektol it looks very similar to my favorite paper, ADOX MCC 110. In Dektol both had a slight green lean, though I would expect (but haven't yet tried) it will be more neutral using Ilford Multigrade developer. Tone wise, it is also as I would expect in terms of using grades.MCC 110 remains my favorite paper but given it can be hard to source sometimes, this is a very capable standard with which to judge all papers. In short, it's the HP5 of fiber paper in my opinion. Great stuff!
This paper will metamorphose your existence. Think I'm joking? You may not understand the splendor of fiber base paper presently, but you will, oh you will. Yes it is expensive. Yes you have to keep reminding yourself to keep the magic away from light until the proper time. Yes it is not in fact an eternal supply and you will have to invest in more. But is it worth it? Absolutely. The allure of this Multigrade FB Classic Gloss Variable Contrast Paper is not in the exorbitant price tag which seems to imply a decadence known only by those who partied with Jay Gatsby, but within the promise of recollection. The beauty of film photography is the pure distillation of a moment. Even more so than digital photography because once you take a photograph on film it hangs suspended in time until it's development. This Multigrade FB Classic Gloss Variable Contrast Paper is the vehicle by which these suspended moments are brought into reality. It is an essential component in documenting the world we live in. Buy the paper. Your photographs will thank you, not literally of course my dear friend, but in an esoteric way that only someone truly bonded to their work can understand. So my fellow man, go out into the world bold to take life by the horns, then pause to find the humility to step back and say I will save this moment and share it with mankind. And by buying this paper you will know that you have the premier tools to accomplish this indispensable feat.
This paper will produce quality images with vey deep blacks and very brilliant whites. From a properly exposed and developed negative, this paper will produce a print with a wide range of contrast. It produces the highest quality prints when properly processed, dried and mounted. I highly recommend this paper.
I am comparing this product to the Ilford Multigrade Fiber Glossy Paper. The previously discontinued version by Ilford which has now been replaced by this product. First off, I'm disappointed in this because the paper has gotten thinner than it was previously. Fiber paper used to be something that gave you a lovely feeling compared with the plasticky finish of Resin coated papers but this one is not only thin it feels plasticky all around. Second, whilst printing, I notice really faint lines, almost like crop marks appearing very close to the edge of my paper. It has consistently been turning up in every other print I make and, having made sure it has nothing to do with my easel/exposure, I can't help coming to the conclusion that this is a manufacturing defect! ... MoreI am comparing this product to the Ilford Multigrade Fiber Glossy Paper. Ilford used to make really beautiful papers but seeing their old products discontinued and replaced by thinner, more plasticky, paper that gives a cheaper finish (not physically cheaper price of silver has been escalating) and feel to them, I can't help but feel this is a product replacement that is helping the company Ilford cut costs and leverage on the current trend of the resurgence of analogue photography. Bring back the real stuff those heavyweight fiber papers and stop crafting darkroom paper that feels like a run-of-the mill product for the mass market.
This is probably the best paper you can easily obtain now, which is great. I use this stuff a lot, but it is expensive. I do prefer rc paper for the cost, but fiber just feels better in your hands. The results, in my opinion, aren’t any better than modern and current rc paper, but it is more traditional.Be ware of wash times, and use a hypo wash to shorten washing . Not water usage friendly, so be aware of environmental impact long washing can do. Also make sure you flatten these prints after drying, as this paper does curl a lot.

Ilford Multigrade FB Classic Glossy 20x25cm - 25 Sheets
Anyone who think that analogue photography has had its day and no longer has anything to offer should think again. With Multigrade FB Classic, Ilford has brought forth a new black and white fiber-based paper with a variable contrast emulsion. It replaces the Multigrade IV FB Fiber, which since its introduction in 1994 has been popular with photographers and artists as well as specialized laboratories. The new Multigrade FB Classic distinguishes itself in many ways compared to its predecessor, Multigrade IV FB Fiber. The new exposure times are not only shorter and have a better gradation, it also has a visibly higher maximum density. In addition, it has been possible to improve tone reproduction across the contrast range. The images are now clearer and sharper than ever before. The rinsing times have also been reduced. The new Multigrade FB Classic now only requires a quick rinse. Particularly pleasing is the fact that a better reaction to the vast majority of toning processes has been achieved, this also applies to selenium toner. The double-weight fiber base has a basis weight of 255 g/m² and will deliver 7 full grades of contrast from grade 00 to grade 5. The contrast can be purposefully controlled using color filters during exposure. The final images are characterized by classic Ilford image properties. Multigrade FB Classic yields deep blacks, brilliant whites, neutral image tones and fine gray reproduction under all viewing conditions. As always with Ilford, you can count on a consistently high-quality product! Multigrade FB Classic is available in most common sheet sizes as well as role format with the following surfaces; 1K (glossy) and 5K (matte).
