Although this paper is more expensive than RC papers, and it can take from 5-10 minutes in the fixer as opposed to the maybe 1-3 minutes of RC, this paper will last. It also gives you a wonderful vintage feel, as early papers were fibre based.I don't really like the finish of this paper compared to glossy, but glossy fibre paper is readily available too.P.S. That's Granddad in his youth 😀

This is arguably the best black and white fiber based multicontrast paper available, have used it for years. Consistent quality catch to batch. Tones well In selenium toner. Neutral black tone. The glossy takes on a beautiful satin sheen when air dried. Thank you Ilford for continuing to produce this great product in a shrinking field of competitors.D. Webb at WebbPhoto

I believe this is the best silver gelatin paper available. And after looking around at what remains, Ilford thankfully seems to be in it for the long-run. I especially like it because it is a neutral tone paper. Not cold, not warm, but right smack in the middle. I don't fight this paper in the darkroom as I have other papers. I make a test strip, go for it, and usually get what I want on the second or third print. It's hard to explain, but it's also an easier paper burn and dodge than other papers I've used. It just feels more forgiving. Plus the dry-down in the highlights even feels more predictable. Overall, this paper seems to have more depth and dimension than others. It also takes to selenium toner very, very well. Long live the darkroom!

I am in the process of printing a lifetime body of work (forty years). I LOVE the Multigrade FB Classic Paper Glossy, 8 x 10,100 sheets. I have looked long and hard for paper that corresponds exactly to what I want to present and this is it. Although a friend whoprints with this same paper using cold head light has shown me it is a full grade more contrasty than the Ilfobrom paper from days of old which I also have used, I find it just perfect. There are more middle tones. I print 6x9 film and 35mm film with an Omega enlarger with diffusion color head with all filters out of the way using the White Light setting only, the paper responds beautifully. Also Ilford technical support replied regarding my concern that the paper might be discontinued as many have: MGFB ... MoreI am in the process of printing a lifetime body of work (forty years). I recently ordered 2 more boxes and to my delight, the new price went down by twenty dollars per box since I ordered in the summer! ILMGF810100G2.00 Multigrade FB Classic Paper (Glossy, 8 x 10,100 99.95 199.90For reference, in the past I have used these fiber based papers: Kodak Azo, Ilford Ilfobrom (graded), not Galerie & Kodak Polycontrast. I was interested in Oriental Seagull but they went away and came back. And the samples of the replacement for Agfa, which I never liked, called ADOX Premium MCC 110, still does not appear as neutral, nor are the whites as pure as are found in this paper.
I began using this paper forty years ago. Just began printing in the darkroom again so pleased it is still an exceptional paper. Remember, however, that you need to use filters to get the full benefit of its magic.
I was working with Ilford FB matte finish before getting this paper but with certain images especially like of the Amazon Rainforest, I really wanted to have a finish that had some shine but I didn't want the kind of a shine of a RC paper and because it is for a future show, I wanted the paper to be of gallery standards i.e. fiber paper. Unlike the matte finish (which has it's own purposes), I feel the D-max is better on this paper for images where you want higher contrast. It still has the weight of a matte finish which is double weight. Definitely a plus when you want the extra durability for a final image. On a final note, I will never buy my photo paper elsewhere, B&H is the best. Your paper is packed with four cardboard corner protecters and shipped in a box. ... MoreI was working with Ilford FB matte finish before getting this paper but with certain images especially like of the Amazon Rainforest, I really wanted to have a finish that had some shine but I didn't want the kind of a shine of a RC paper and because it is for a future show, I wanted the paper to be of gallery standards i.e. fiber paper. To start off I admit that my sample photo is on the other texture of paper but still it's Ilford FB.I don't really make paper negatives, but as I had some FB paper lying around I thought I'd give it a go. It seems to have worked though the result was insanely contrasty. As a normal darkroom paper I use FB occasionally but it's tricky to work with as it requires lots of fixing and washing.
As long as you can manage to set aside the idea of a set of test strips that cost you seven dollars in a single go (the cost of one full sheet), it's a fun challenge to print this big. You'll definitely want an enlarger easel big enough for the task (I would not want to try it without one). But, for the right image and the right customer, it's worth the investment of time and money. The paper itself presented no problems. The matte finish was the right choice for the work in this case, at least. I'm sorry that the envelope is now empty.
Being Ilford, it is as you would expect. It is consistent, easy to use, just a touch warm to my eyes, and generally gorgeous. I have yet to selenium tone it yet but pre-toned in Dektol it looks very similar to my favorite paper, ADOX MCC 110. In Dektol both had a slight green lean, though I would expect (but haven't yet tried) it will be more neutral using Ilford Multigrade developer. Tone wise, it is also as I would expect in terms of using grades.MCC 110 remains my favorite paper but given it can be hard to source sometimes, this is a very capable standard with which to judge all papers. In short, it's the HP5 of fiber paper in my opinion. Great stuff!
Fiber base paper is the way to go for any archival darkroom event. Ive been using this box for a 110 film SLR camera. The glossy surface is not as glossy as RC papers and dries darker after washing. The flattening process for thje paper requires HEAVY Book press overnight to straighten things out. The texture and heavy WEIGHT of this paper blows away Resin coated. Takes longer time in developer to process than RC based paper.
