Thick and starchy penne. The package looks nice. I think the font needs to be larger or more clearer for the cooking instruction. The package felt quite soft and fragile so I had to make sure I don't rip it. They were on sale when I collected the item. I think the price is quite reasonable. We had this penne with homemade pasta sauce. We usually buy San Remo brand's penne. Comparing to other brands' I found the penne was thick and starchy/chewy. I am not sure whether this is more like "authentic" pasta texture but because we are so used to San Remo's (Australian brand) penne, we felt the taste and texture was different. We are not sure whether we will re-purchase this product. We just prefer the San Remo's pastas' taste and texture.... Show more

Such great quality. This pasta is just the best. Although I usually wait for this to come on special to buy it and stock up, I still think it is worth spending a little bit more for this one. The whole range of this pasta is superb. Penne is my favourite shape to cook pasta dishes with so I always have this one in my pantry. There are good instructions included on the pack but I never follow them. With pasta I cook it and I don't time it or anything, preferring to go by look and feel and my pasta always turns out well, especially with this brand. Usual price is $3. 30 for the 500g pack. I know you can get other brands for less than a dollar but honestly this one will cook up much nicer and is well worth the extra money. Product of Italy.... Show more

If its Pasta, it gotta be Italian ! Although 'La Molisana' brand is dearer than other brands at $2. 80 for 500g, its worth the money because of its excellent texture and the ability to retain its shape as well absorb the sauce very well !Barilla brand at $2. 40 for 500g comes closer but cannot comment on Woolworth home brand at $1. 20 which is cost effective unless we try it. Also there is a La Molisana Pastificio Extra Di Lusso "Wholewheat" Penne Rigate 500g at $3. 00 which is for health conscious :)... Show more

Worth paying extra $$$. I made a big batch of my minestrone soup on Sunday (recipe submitted) and I wanted to try this brand of pasta as I have seen some great reviews on other types of pasta in this range. It did not disappoint and the pasta had a beautiful soft texture. It was slightly dearer than most other pastas, the cost was $3. 30 for the 500g packet. Well worth it as far as I'm concerned. Product of Italy, if they can't get pasta right, then I'm not sure who can. Unfortunately like all pastas, there is a high carbohydrate content, 70g per 100g serving Ingredients are Drum Wheat Semolona. Allergen advice: Contains gluten and may contain soy. Great pasta. Loved this pasta. Once cooked it was silky and soft. The penne pieces didn't fall apart when tossed through sauce. The pieces themselves were very large and the holes a good size for sauce to run through. And unlike some penne pasta I've tried before it didn't have that "chalky" taste to it when eating it plain (the only way to test if pasta is cooked )My only gripe is with the bag, I love the idea of using the paper bag but I feel it needs to be a bit stronger. When I pulled it out of the cupboard to use it had torn at some point. Thanks for the sample bunch I will be buying this pasta from now on... Show more

Lovely Italian pasta, a treat when on sale. With the recent half price sale that Woolies had on the La Molisana pasta range, I found myself purchasing a whole bunch of new varieties. If it wasn’t for bunch giving me two samples from this range already, I wouldn’t have even known about this pasta’s existence. Although they are quite large in size (there are even larger size pasta varieties in this range that are a bit more pricey), I wanted to trial a new simpler pasta dish for my toddler. I decided to make a ricotta and zucchini pasta dish and although there wasn’t much else in the dish, the ricotta surprisingly gave it plenty of creamy cheesy flavour. Product of Italy Simple but impressive presentable packaging Although I cooked the whole pack at once, there is a resealable sticker on the pack should you choose to only cook part of the pack. I like this added touch Otherwise you may need to transfer your opened pasta pack to an airtight container. A long best before date of over 2. 5 years! An improvement to the design of the packaging would be to make the cooking time a bit more prominent on the pack. I struggled to find it in the cooking instructions and it was actually located on the side of the pack. Maybe even putting it on the front of the pack would make it easier to spot. The font used for the cooking instructions themselves could also be a bit larger in size. There are no recycling instructions on the pack which I assume is because they are made in Italy and they have different rules and regulations there. Will probably purchase these again if on sale... Quite Nice. First thing I loved about this product was the packaging, oh la la it's fancy! So a BIG tick for the packaging. It's taken me a little while to review this as I don't eat a lot of pasta. I decided to cook some up last night & have it with Honey Mustard Chicken. I added the salt & pasta when it started boiling, as per the instructions & it stated the cooking time would be 12 minutes. I found the cooking time a little longer than 12 minutes, I actually cooked it for about 18 minutes. At 12 minutes it wasn't soft enough for me, it was still a little too hard. I also noticed as I was eating it out of the pan it tasted a little starchy so I rinsed it under some water. It was delicious however when mixed with my Honey Mustard Chicken. It was cooked perfectly for me at 18 minutes, so I'll stick to that time in the future. Just the right softness, firm, not mushy. It didn't stick together when strained, held it's shape & wasn't chewy. It didn't feel heavy in my stomach like some pastas do. I really did enjoy it & I had enough of both the chicken & pasta for three more meals to pop into the freezer & I've still got just under half a packet left. So it's a tick from me! Thank You For The Sample.... Show more

A great buy. This is another tough review. It’s Pasta right? It’s a bit difficult to review but I’ll give it my best. I used this pasta two ways. Firstly was in a Tuna Bake and secondly was in a regular spaghetti substitute for our spaghetti bolognese. I found that the pasta held up really well when boiled and didn’t get too rubbery or mushy which some brands do. I was happy with that. When I did use it in the Tuna Bake, it absorbed a great deal of the flavor so I was happy with that. The Spaghetti substitute was a little interesting with the family preferring it over the spaghetti pasta however I am not sure it’s a product review but rather their enjoyment of an alternative. Overall, I was very happy with the product and enjoyed using it but didn’t really “wow” me ... MoreA great buy. This is another tough review. It’s Pasta right? Great product. This pasta comes in a plain looking bag, which kind of arouses your interest - almost begging you to pick it up. It's like it was made in some Italian kitchen just for you. Took me a while to find the cooking instructions and even longer to find the cooking time on the packaging. The pasta cooked well and stayed firm even cooking it longer than the required time. I used it hot the first night then in a pasta salad a few days later. Would I buy it again? Sure would.... Show more

Possibly my new dry pasta of choice. Very easy to locate in store and the packaging did look impressive amongst the plastic bags of pasta. Appearance wise I feel they have nailed it... looks like a premium product. Price wise it was on par with the better brands(I usually just grab the cheap crap). As other people have mentioned, it did take a while to cook through but it turned out perfectly... great texture and taste. Unlike the cheap crap you had a large window of time between not cooked and floppy soggy pasta, so was very easy to get right. I even used the left overs the next night and heated it up in a new sauce and it still came out perfectly cooked.
