This is another toner, similar to the "Platinum Ice" acidic toner offered by L'Oreal. This colour has a very subtle lilac sheen, but this is only noticeable if you have hair colour lightened to 8-10. The acidic formula neutralises brassy yellow hair and also the alkalinity of hair after bleaching, which can make it porous. This toner was easy to use - it comes with developer and a good dose of conditioner so it really did make my hair happier after bleaching. My hair is a bit darker, but it was still good at neutralising the warmer tones in my hair and left it feeling very soft.

This is an Ammonia-Free Post-Bleach treatment for levels 9-10 (probably). After you bleach your hair, it becomes alkaline which can leave it looking lifeless and porous. The idea behind this acidic toner is that it restores the pH balance of your hair. The colourant is also supposed to get rid of orange and yellow tones and the conditioner improves the condition of your hair. I have to admit that my hair was quite a bit darker than the levels recommended. However, I still liked the result and think it helped it look less orange. Certainly the formula is very good and will make your bleached, straw-like tresses look a lot healthier. It would be great if L'Oreal would cater more to brunettes with lightened hair in the future.

I picked L'Oreal Preference Rio 5.23 Very Deep Rose Gold to try out rose gold tones, which is supposed to be neutral and flattering for most skin tones. I have very black brown hair naturally and about 20% stubborn greys that are very obvious. One pack is sufficient for my hair which reaches my upper back.I applied this to my roots before the rest of my hair, and left it in for 40 minutes (longer than the prescribed 30 minutes because my hair is coarse and colour takes longer to work). I then popped into the shower, added some water to massage the hair dye in before rinsing out. I could immediately feel that this hair dye is not as drying as other brands. The included hair treatment is really rich and nourishing, and works best if left on for a few minutes before rinsing out. There is enough hair treatment to be used 2-3 times, once a week.On my dark hair, the results of 5.23 is still medium dark but with beautiful warm violet highlights that is more visible in direct light. On me it is more violet than pink, but a really pretty colour that is neutral rather than too cool. Sadly, it was not '100% grey coverage' as advertised, as my greys were still quite visible. My hair feels very soft and shiny without any sign of damage.If not for the insufficient grey coverage, this is an excellent hair colour that is vibrant and leaves hair smooth and shiny. Sadly it doesn't suit my needs so I won't repurchase, but I'm still giving it 4 stars as it would be excellent for those with less or no greys.
