Maldon Sea Salt Flakes - Tub - 1.4kg

I had read site after site filled with rave reviews of this salt over the years, I wish I had tried it earlier, as it is certainly worthy of of the praise it gets. It is the most delicious salt we have ever tried. It adds a lovely delicate sour tartness that is hard to describe. Fantastic on fish, beef, pasta, and vegetable and bean dishes. I have tried a number of salts and this is the only one I think is worthy of the hype. I will never stock a pantry without it. I think it is magnificent as it really does add a special bit of magic particularly to mild fish. You need a wet salt mill for it if you are planing on grinding it.

The flavor reminds me of coarse sea salt, but its more delicate. The crystal size varies, with some large square and pyramidal flakes, which impart a lovely flavor. I think the Portuguese and French sea salts have impressed me more, but it could also be Maldons process that produces more dust and small flakes. Well use it to create our own everything bagel mix.

I am really happy with this product the taste is effective without being overpowering. The only thing I would suggest is that the flakes were smaller would make them mix into a dry marinade better o.k. with anything wet but when mixing with flour etc. if it was smaller then the flavour would get into the food better I crush it now in a mortarpestle otherwise it is an excellent product and I will definitely buy it again.

Better than the small packs and it is recyclable

Since Maldon began with these tubs, I've never bought the smaller packages, which I find both fiddly (because of the inner bag) and less economical. Some reviewers have complained about the fact that the tub is made of plastic. Yes, it would be nicer if they could go for a paper tub (such tubs used to be common in the past), but this tub is made of a plastic that can be recycled and is accepted in all council recycling schemes, so it's not such a big deal. I just wish Ocado began offering Maldon's smoked salt as well - which also can be had in these tubs.

Great salt and love the new packaging design!

Makes a huge difference in my cooking - takes it to a new level. And I absolutely love the new green squares design on the packaging! I don't mind the fact it's plastic because the pot size actually makes it perfect for re-use. I re-use these pots for mixing paint and for planting seedlings.

No more plastic please, Ocado push for improvement

I buy the medium pack in cardboard all the time. Why would we customers be forced to buy plastic if we want to buy bigger and save money on a basic product, I can't understand or accept. Ocado be more creative and challenge the producers please.

Salty flakes for ur finger foods

This salt is Amazing! Get some, you will instantly become an executive level chef. I hand tasted some and it was such a pleasant, soft salt taste that just melts away in your mouth. It looks like millions of sparkly diamonds in a tub. Worth $50.00 in my opinion. I've already planned on a salt dish (small minced garlic in glass jar/bowl, washed and dried) so I can grab pinches of the salt flakes as needed, then have a cover as well to keep out dust, etc. This salt comes from England too btw.

The best salt ever!

I buy this very often, its the only salt you need truly. A beautiful texture, tastes great, and a really handy pot. Yes it comes in plastic but its so convenient and the pot can be reused after the salt has been used up. And then recycled. Love it.

The best, most finest, gourmet, delectable salt, I ever run my tongue across?

It dissolves like snow on your tongue. Nice taste and texture. It's hard to describe how good it is. Very fluffy and light. It's got a delicate bite which quickly disappears. Not like rock salt which overpowers everything. This stuff costs a pile for salt but it's soooo worth it. I would never use this except to season meats or add a kick to veggies and such due to price. Heck, you can easily get a 50lbs bag of salt for 40 bucks so this is stuff only a chef or someone in the know uses to blow their recipes out of the water. Try the smallest containers if you aren't sure and then you will buy a couple pounds of it. This is now on my must have list. The VALUE is totally there, I just can't put it in words that would really give it justice. Hats off to the maker.

Nothing compares to these triangle dustings for flavor. finishing off meats and veggies with this salt gives it a additional gourmet like difference. Hard to explain -but the crystals don't just melt away but leave a delicious flavoring. The only way to make this even better for meats like fish is to try their smoked variety in addition.
